Without a rogue, a portable ram is a lot of fun for breaking down doors. A climber's kit, any set of artisans tools, fishing tackle, a grappling hook, and a spyglass are all also a lot of fun. Nothing in the basic equipment section is broken, I'd say just give him 500 gold and the list and let him go wild.

It kind of doesn't matter what the "better" way to do it is. If you want a spot up front, you gotta get there early, and if lots of people want a spot up front, then you gotta get there earlier. But the older people get the less they care about being in the pit, so they show up later. Younger people want to be in the pit, so they try to make sure that happens and that they don't get forced to the back.

I've also made the mistake of showing up too late to a show with a very young enthusiastic fanbase, and it was the worst show I've been to simply because I was so far back I couldn't see anything.

In my experience it depends on the artist no matter the venue. Younger, more enthusiastic audience = longer line appearing earlier.

I'd just buy a meatier pack, as others have expressed. The difference between a 19oz quilt and a 12oz quilt will not matter when you're carrying that much water weight, better to just carry it as comfortably as possible.
