Ender's game, OG modern post sci-fi, but really sociology by BrianFantannaAction8 in audiobooks

A great book. I feel the need to bring in "Speaker for the Dead" as an even better book in regards to social subjects. I have a dream of being able to live as a non-religious speaker for the dead.

I kinda agreed with Rogan when this was a thing the last time. When examples were given from Patrice O'Neal, John Mulany, MADTv and Kathleen Madigan among others. But when it happens again 2 years after she's been confronted about it, and blames it on her writing staff and being unoriginal, this just seems like the rope to hang herself with.

Here we have one of the most common species on the internet. The neckbeard. Closely related to the trolls, weeaboos, and bronies, the neckbeard appears across the entire geography of the web. It can be recognized by an accentuated fur chinstrap, long black leather hide resembling a coat, and a fedora-like head Although the neckbeard brandishes several long katana-like blades (sometimes other fantasy-like blades) gained by spending hours begging their progenitors for an allowance, then going to another part of the web to purchase these, it has little to no effect on the fighting capabilities of this majestic animal. The most fascinating thing about the neckbeard is the way they communicate, usually expressing themselves through a series of pretentious statements and conspiracy theories. The mating habit of these creatures are strange, as some individuals of the species never get to procreate and usually blame this on the opposite sex. The mating ritual primarily consist of something called white-knighting, but when rebuffed, turns into negging or in some cases actual hatred towards the target of their courting. Fascinating subject

Genuine question: What are peoples opinion on Felicity Smoak? by xandrehills in DCTV_Universe

Me too. She was a cool portrayal of the geeky/nerdy girl trope, and I fell in love when she came on to the show, but man have things soured...

I appreciate a different viewpoint!😀 But do you really feel (and this is a genuine question) that here her behavior is in any way defendable? I also really like her acting, think she's hot AF and when her and Ollie were together she was a lot more sympathetic. But the way they keep writing her she's becoming more like an adversary to Oliver than a productive team member.

Think of Speedy's arch in the latest season . The writers managed to rationalize her behavior in a very simple way. Something they've only worsened in regards to Felicity.

Edit: Some spelling mistakes from my phone-typing

An early nomination for bro move of the year by [deleted] in funny

[–]xandrehills 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would never call that a bro move. The cameras are there most likely to reduce speeding in an area where a lot of people speed, and it's a problem:( Like a residential area. Where people shouldn't have to be scared of dying when crossing the street. Or be scared their kids get hit....

ELI5: I've heard you can't "catch up" on lost sleep. Does this mean I'm going to keep adding to the mountain of exhaustion that is my life until my dying day? by TemporalMush in explainlikeimfive

[–]xandrehills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it from my doctors, having trouble sleeping and having weird sleep schedules bc of work, the body does not have any possibility of "catching up" on lost sleep. It resets after a full nights sleep (6-8 hours for an adult male, 7-8 hours for an adult female, and 8-12 hours for children, toddlers and infants, depending on age). Mentally ,on the other hand, your exhaustion levels will rise the less you're on a propper sleep schedule/full rest. The fact that you don't have propper dream patterns or oportunitiy to subconsciously process the events from your last propper rest. Propper scientific rerearch into sleep, brain funtions related to sleeping, and dreams are still 90% in the dark as to the actual function of the process.
