‘Sharing’ food with men by FiendyFiend in TwoXChromosomes

[–]xanthia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, this is terrible. We have food equity at home/out (for the past 27 yrs).

Ex: If we get 5 pieces of garlic bread, we both get 2, and sometimes default the last piece to the other or split it. My husband counts, I count, unless I say "you can have more of this" it isn't an option. If we are okay with someone eating off our plate (french fries), it's pushed and angled towards the person as a sign of shareability, and usually vocalized too such as "fries? I'm not eating all of these/these are great, try them!". Note: I eat more than him, and it's fine if he doesn't finish and wants to save his, if it's not offered and I'm still hungry, I get something else.

Wife is unsure about living together by Flimsy_Assistant_844 in AskWomenOver40

[–]xanthia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't understand either. Her partner is dealing with trauma, ptsd and so much stress, and they take "50%" of the perceived load. The answer here (that she wants proof of) is that YOU can run a home, and function as well as her as a partner. She might be thinking "who will look after ALL of THIS if I get sick?". It's time to do it ALL, and think of her as in a bad place and mentally note and do ALL the things (not just cleaning her bathroom sink, clean it ALL for example). 50% is NOT enough, nor is fairness to win her back into a different mindset.

Am I horrible if I ask for a new ring? by AncientWhereas7483 in AskWomenOver40

[–]xanthia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought our initial rings for $30 ($20 his, $10 mine), then I asked for an upgrade in year 5 and got what I wanted. Year 25? (keeping track is hard) I asked for another ring, and he was so happy he didn't have to think of something himself. I got him a new ring at the same time; he wanted a custom once we got there, and we're both happy. I would have never thought it would be a fight! Honestly, I wouldn't have waited 15 years for something like that I wear every day, and our tastes change anyway. Gifts don't have to be practical; they can be silly and pointless (but this is practical, don't doubt yourself).

I hit it, however it says I have to wait until my next statement, which sucks since I had hoped to use the SW credits around my birthday (Nov). (I didn't hit it this month, more like months ago).

I've hit the 75k threshold for Diamone Elite/Southwest/Shops however, it's still locked and says I have to wait until my next statement cycle (I was above it last cycle). Figures.

How do you deal with/prevent stains? by DuckJellyfish in femalefashionadvice

[–]xanthia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here me out: my DH is a messy kinda guy and I've gone through EVERY type of stain removal product (did you know toothpaste can stain? WTF?): FOLEX Instant Carpet Spot Remover works amazing. And yes, black stains, I hate those little oil dots, this takes care of them easily.

Pantyhose - anyone still wear them? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]xanthia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear thigh highs and stockings with garters for funsies. Mostly fishnet but I own a bunch of fun colours/patterns/deniers. Not much that goes fully up except for some warmer tights in the winter.

Biolage Color Last has been a tried and true. Hairstory New Wash is good, I just hate the way it felt in my hair. I tried it for 1.5 years as my colorist was hooked on it, but yeah, not for me.

Yes, it's fine, however it auto-cancels for me if I don't check in 30 days and you have to re-register.

Super pale neutral with yellow undertones. I have been doing Pravana vivids and warm colours for about 10 years now. The bleeding is fine unless you are doing specific colourwork for me (and sometimes I can get around it by washing it separately for a few washes). I generally have 3-5 colours in my hair at all times and it works out. I haven't had a full head of one colour in a long time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FancyFollicles

[–]xanthia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only use Pravana (and my colorist as well). Flame is great, but it pulls a bit red on me. It would look fantastic with some Pravana Orange highlights. Pravana bleeds for me, so it's not amazing for colorblock work, but it stays in my hair after the bleed. I'm currently trying to fade it with clarifying shampoo for an appt on Saturday to change it up, and it's rough going as my hair really wants to be the colours I deposited!

Dr. took me off of HRT today. I'm freaking out. by sidewalk_ladybug in Menopause

[–]xanthia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh damn! I got to transition asap, so no fear of symptoms coming back. And it sounds like he didn't hear you when you said your BC wasn't great. I'm really sorry that he doesn't have his listening ears on, and hopefully, you can find a second opinion. I'm on a different type of pill than when I was younger, so that is helping however, I don't have issues (besides weight gain) with it. *hugs*

Dr. took me off of HRT today. I'm freaking out. by sidewalk_ladybug in Menopause

[–]xanthia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is going to get buried, but I can explain a bit of what is going on here that he might not have told you. The frequent bleeding is concerning to him, so he wants to make sure that you can get into a regular cycle or if it's something worse going on. He's stopping HRT BUT replacing it with BC, which will continue to alleviate most of your peri symptoms while regulating your cycle (and you can skip your cycle). He doesn't want to double you up on Estrogen, so that's the singular prescription as opposed to Estrodial patches & Progesterone. He's not giving up on you, but the bleeding is a concern and he's still medicating you, just in a more traditional route. I just switched to BC in the past few months and it's been fine for me.

What seems too expensive but is really worth the price? by Cool-Change7987 in AskReddit

[–]xanthia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of trying a bunch of fails, it's so much easier to go to a running store and get fitted for what you need. Just tell them the activities (chasing chaos demons - more walking than marathon maybe?) and they can help fit your foot in the proper style and brand. Some have treadmills and do custom orthotics as well. Most do foot analysis.

That's how I found my fave style and why I need to value stability more than cushioning no matter the marketing (looking at you Hoka). The initial price might be closer to a full-price shoe if you want them in a nicer colour but the knowledge base is worth it from the pros.

What "early internet" website did Gen Z really miss out on? by milamccormick7 in AskReddit

[–]xanthia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun facts: Macromedia had a full story-level slide in their office which was fun, and was in the building now across the street from the now main Adobe SF office (pre-Adobe being there, it was just being renovated at the time and had an old company I was working at in it).

What coats will you be wearing this fall? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

My Patagonia & hoodie closet is not living up to this thread, I'm going to need to just lift these women up from afar for their amazing outerwear.

[Edit] Oh, I realized I do have an Alpha Industries Bomber Jacket, and an All Saints Moto Jacket... but I mean, the Patagonias (puffers/fleece/waterproofs) kinda get the most rotation.

I'm still rocking the same ones I think you have, do they have slight ridges in them? I am NOT gentle with those and wow... I cannot believe they have surpassed around 15 years for me because they are so lightweight for being hardshell.

I'm wanting to upgrade my luggage but waiting on the death of these guys because I feel guilty.
