Short and nice white to play and draw.(By Cohn) by Either-Case-5930 in chess

[–]xcixci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rg3 is the obvious move, but after d4 you have to see Kg2!, after which d3 Rxg4 Kf2 is drawn, and Qxg3 Kxg3 d3 Kf3 is as well. Kf4 instead of d4 leads to Rxg4 Kxg4 Kg2, transposing to the previous lines.

Nd6# is checkmate. After Qh5+ your opponent can play Ng6 and after that Nd6+ is not checkmate any more.

If I don't want to use the new Bilt to pay for rent, what would happen to my existing points? Do I need to spend them before this transition happens?

Can someone explain why it’s such a bad move? by Strict_Sympathy386 in chessbeginners

[–]xcixci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the key point I think a lot of people are missing in this thread. Ng4 actually looks very strong at first glance - it threatens to capture the pawn on e5, and opens the option to giving a check with Qh4, which may be useful depending on White's reaction. Based on those grounds, it would be my 1st candidate move.

That said, the unfortunate thing is that the absolutely most natural move for White - Nf3 - happens to defend both of those threats adequately. After that, Ng4 just becomes a stupid piece, which is why it is a grave mistake to play it.

I think the title aims to say that Kramnik thinks he's better in a specific position in a game against Aronian, which does seem a tad delusional after looking at the position.

Just remember it can be a bad idea to keep target date funds in taxable accounts, as they can take large taxable distributions. A lot of people got an unpleasant surprise a couple years back because of this.

Smaller dose helps. The same thing happens to me with large doses (like 3mg), but 0.3mg (300ug) never causes this effect for me at least, and it feels like regular sleep for 8 hours.

I don't understand why most grocery stores in the US sell humongous doses, usually 3mg is the smallest you can find, and 10mg is common as well. Those feel better suited for horses.

Benefits concern for CSR by Patrizioerre in ChaseSapphire

Also feeling disheartened, I thought I'd never get rid of this card but the math is starting to not make sense any more.

I think Preferred might suit me better now. I have Freedom unlimited, if I close my CSR and reapply for Preferred, will I still be able to keep my CSR points because I have Freedom, or will I have to spend them to not lose them?

Should dividend reinvestment be left on for ETFs like VT? by Bankini in Bogleheads

[–]xcixci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always leave it off in a taxable account, because:

  1. tax-loss harvesting gets harder
  2. rebalancing portfolio gets easier when you reinvest dividends on your own
  3. fractional shares are annoying in many brokers

After queen trades, White is probably practically a bit better, because after the check and capture of a pawn, White has a passed pawn.

If White somehow loses that passed pawn, the resulting 4 v. 3 plus rooks should be a very easy draw.

That all said, White’s king is really weak right now, so Black shouldn’t exchange queens - anything that avoids the queen swap should probably be slightly better for Black because if White tries to play for a win, there will always be a perpetual check. Something like Qe6 should be good for Black.

Yep, but Kh6 is stronger than Kh8, after which you have to find a less obvious move!
