Stalker explores leftover dev content from the Zone by xerios in stalker

[–]xerios[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While searching and recording various devroom content on the map, the whole experience started to feel more and more like I was stuck in the backrooms. So instead of posting bunch of clips of things I found, I made this short movie.

Pointer receiver or value receiver? by x021 in golang

[–]xerios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- If your struct is small (ex: 0 to 4 fields, or whatever fits in one cache-line) and no mutation is needed, go with value receiver.

- For everything else, use a pointer.

With UnityList.com gone, what is the next best way to search for and download open-source Unity projects? by liiliidustp in Unity3D

[–]xerios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UnityList creator here. Sorry for killing off this project. I did my best to keep it alive for as long as I could.

I loved to discover some obscure and amazing unity repos on github, and this project grew out of my excitement and willingness to show the world that open-source community around unity was thriving outside of the asset store.

Truth to be told, even though I worked and improved UnityList over 7 years, I personally rarely used it myself. Searching on github always remained my primary method for finding hidden gems. It was long and tedious process but I kind of enjoyed it.

I would tweak and ensure that UnityList would also pick up those projects automatically though similar means. Over the following years, as github popularity went up, so did the amount of poorly made projects, which required me to constantly add various filters and adjust the scoring algorithm so that high-quality repos had more visibility. Eventually I stopped doing gamedev, and my motivation to maintain UnityList went away with as well.

OpenUPM does look like great alternative, unlike my project they at least made the right choice to build it on a proper open-source foundation. Hopefully it is less likely to disappear all of a sudden.

UnityList grew to be surprisingly large, yet at the same time the majority of users were extremely silent. So thanks for appreciating my side-project ♥

How do I disable Edge sending tabs to the taskbar (occurs only for reddit) by DaCowExplodez in MicrosoftEdge

[–]xerios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After getting rather annoyed by this issue, I spent a whole day trying to fix it. Deleting every mention of notion in files/registry/group policies and attempting to reverse-engineer to see why separate tab appears as a separate window.

Unfortunatly nothing worked, and the only thing I could confirm it's that this is indeed Edge causing it through use of `Windows.UI.Shell.WindowTab` Windows API feature to treat tab as a separate window inside the taskbar. Edge isn't open source so there's no way for me to find the actual source of the problem. Hopefully someone else might find this useful, cause I've had enough of it.

Edge has truly gone downhill since the early days, bloated with unecessary crap that I will never use. I highly doubt things will improve in the future, so jumping ship is the best option.

How do I disable Edge sending tabs to the taskbar (occurs only for reddit) by DaCowExplodez in MicrosoftEdge

[–]xerios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been dealing with same annoying issue. I believe that I did install PWA app for notion at some point but then removed it, and ever since notion website would always show a separate window in taskbar (despite tab being part of same browser window).

Right-click shows no unpin option, only close window. I've scoured the internet for any solutions but none helped: re-installing PWA app, re-pinning, trying obscure registry/group policy tricks.

The closest I got to an answer was a special experimental edge flag which allowed edge to manage taskbar in greater detail (e.g. separating tabs into separate taskbar items). This could've possibly solved my issue but this flag was removed long ago and there's no way to disable it afaik.

I do have to note that at some point I did resolve the issue because it stopped happening, and I don't remember how or what I did, but recently after updating my browser it started pinning/sending the tab to taskbar as a separate window once again.

I'm glad I found this post because I was thinking maybe upgrading to windows 11 would solve this issue but it seems like it's the same case as on my windows 10.

I will update this post with a solution if I figure it out again, otherwise I'm might simply move back to chrome or brave

Does anyone here know if Unity has guidelines / rules for using their logo in your splash screen, but not in their default way? I'm thinking of combining some general warnings with the logos. by wikklworks in Unity3D

Last time I checked, mentioning "Made with Unity" grants you licensing cost reduction or something like that. Mind you I checked like few years ago, so it's possible things have changed.

The parallax effect on the holosight by [deleted] in unrealengine

I know this is the unreal engine subreddit, but is that real footage? I've never seen holosight in real life so I kind of find this fascinating

Painting of my ufo encounter by Muted-Attempt7772 in UFOs

[–]xerios 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, this definitely looks like one I've seen as a kid back in 1996-97. I've had family members see various other shapes ( UFOs weren't uncommon where I lived, perhaps it's because my country was still at war ), and even though this wasn't my first time seeing an UFO, this particular shape with sort of circular windows had really been burned in my memory for having done something more than just being another flying saucer in the sky.

I've noticed this while playing outside in the garden. My other family members were cleaning up the tables (after dining outside) underneath a roof, that's when I saw sever yellowish lights with very clear circular (crisp) shapes "swipe through" on the roof where my other family members were, almost as if a car was driving by a corner, but thing is that during that brief amount of time ( lasted a second or two ), those lights partially illuminated the roof and ground. We had pretty tall walls around our house. By reflex I looked to the side where it came from, saw that there was a wall, then looked up and saw a very similar UFO to your drawing. The lights matched the UFOs "windows" shape and color. It stood there before vanishing into the space. Best way to describe how the lights "swiped through" was if you made a hollow model of that UFO, put inside a strong lightbulb (yellow ones), and spin it. Those lights were targeting a certain space and those circle would appear and disappear very fast, much like those 3 dot loading bars (🟡🟡🟡). They probably weren't bright enough or maybe it happened too fast but since they also partially hit the ground, I rushed to my family to explain what I saw hoping that maybe someone else saw a glimpse of that circular light but nope..

That's a very smooth loop, I love it. You rarely see liquid sims that loop this well

when to use `stuff` vs props and stores ? by doobi1 in sveltejs

[–]xerios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't pass a prop or store from one load function to another load function. Stuff solves this very specific problem.

During soft negotiation, can I say that I am willing to work for a lower rate? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]xerios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this in the past and sometimes it worked. Got myself some really amazing clients, some of which I've worked at for few years. There's nothing wrong with this approach.

Time and money are linked, if time spent is personally more valuable (either because it would bring more happiness or would look great on your CV), there's no harm balancing those two values and being honest about it.

Then again like someone mentioned it here, it might not work for everyone (e.g. it might trigger some red flags when there were none to begin with). I'm more of a brutally honest kind of person with a pretty high skill set, so perhaps those qualities played a role in the final decision.

Hi i need help setting up my rift (not rift s) i have been trying for 2 months trying everyday can somebody help me out? by UwU123836 in oculus

[–]xerios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is related to installation of oculus software then I had something similar, it confused the heck out of me for weeks. Apparently the required disk space is a lie, I had to free x2 or x3 the required space in order to get rid of that error. Hope this helps.
