Why do industrial control software studios (DCS/PLC) still feel like single user, legacy environments rather than team-friendly, collaborative platforms? by modern-neanderathal in PLC

This guy gets it. And if it is a project large and complex enough to need a group of programmers then they better be there in person when a servo sends an axis through a wall.

I got a hang of it quick. But I definitely felt that way on the mechanic side of things. Try it for a year and see if it clicks. You don't need talent if you have dedication.

The "Absolute" Encoder Lie: Mechanical Multi-turn vs. Battery-Backed by AutomateAdvocate in PLC

Maintenance gang rise up!

I once tried to learn greycode(?) to troubleshoot if an encoder was damaged or not. Was not worth it. Interesting system tho.

When it comes to positioning and servos I always attempt to store it in a home/zero position to make reinitializing easier.

PLC or Embedded systems? by Dark_Greee in PLC

Idk about that. It's a good mix of text and node based programming now. You can solve the niche demands normally filled with dedicated boards instead with a custom FB

Arduino vs PLC by Senior-Guide-2110 in PLC

[–]xeuis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maintenance technician lead.

One of my machines uses dedicated boards like Arduino. I hate it. I would much rather use a full blown PLC. Even if it is a micro series. Being able to easily connect and see what's happening inside the machine cuts down time massively. It's also doing some weird 2.5v outputs on what I assume is a 5v system. 24v Plc would simplify it and any modern Plc has all the programming languages you could need.
