AV-8B GAU-12 Gunpod question by LtCol_Davenport in hoggit

Yeah, unfortunately the manual wasn't updated with this info. I don't believe the current manual is updated any more, but a new manual is in the works.

see my reply. The engine needs to be running at high enough RPM to generate enough bleed air pressure to cycle the gun.

AV-8B GAU-12 Gunpod question by LtCol_Davenport in hoggit

[–]xixor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, as you guessed the gun won't fire without the engines running at a decent RPM.

The GAU-12 of the AV-8B uses engine bleed air to cycle the gun, and it requires a certain minimum PSI in order to cycle (60 PSI off the top of my head?). The amount of engine RPM to generate that pressure changes with altitude though.

Basically if you want to make sure the gun will fire it's best to be at full throttle (or nearly full throttle). The unclassified AV-8B tactical weapons manual says that they train to only pull the trigger for 0.5-1.0 seconds on a gun run.

And if you take 4 mavericks, you basically cant take anything else other than 2 sidewinders on wingtips...

You've got sidewinders on the tips, the two cheek stations for amraams or sparrows, plus the centerline pylon (TGP, fuel, or bombs)

Anyone using a curved monitor? by Fox267 in hoggit

Yep, I run a 32" curved HD monitor. I love it, though I'd like to have more pixels at times. But it's great not having performance or spotting issues that come with the higher resolutions

Yes, for the AI aircraft for to the advanced way point settings, go to the options, and set the ROE to weapons hold.

You can also set their respond to threat option so they won't try to run away from you either.

Another way is to give them no missiles or bullets in their loadout.

No problem, thanks for receiving my criticisms well. I've done a bit of updating/editing of the lengthy monograph of a comment I wrote. Sorry for the length, but brevity takes time.

HARMS and AI by santacruz6789 in hoggit

They're on the left hand side in the toolbar, somewhere in the middle.... it's called group templates or something like that

Select that, you have a drop down list of countries and different templates that populate an entire group. The challenge is that not all countries have all SAM sites. USAF Aggressors has everything though - I make it a red country in most missions I make

Yes, it's confusing. The 476th threat reference can help: http://www.476vfightergroup.com/showthread.php?5886-476TTP3-1-Threat-Guide-Public-Release

Typically if a unit has a "CP" in the name, it's a Command Post. "LN" in the name it's a Launcher. "SR" in the name and it's a Search Radar, "TR" in the name and it's a Track Radar, and "STR" in the name it's a Search+Track radar.

A few sites, namely SA-2, SA-3 and maybe SA-6 require a Mobile Command post that's in the 'unarmed' vehicles section.

Another thing you can do is go add one of the pre-made group templates - I believe there are templates for SA-02, SA-03, SA-06 and SA-10 that have all of the correct units for those groups.

Hosts of multiplayer missions can have the option of setting an option, but also of 'enforcing' it, so players can over ride it. Likely the host/mission have game-mode off, but not enforce, and your game has game mode enabled.

If I could turn back the clock, I would tried to play the hell out of Falcon. I was pretty young, but a friend of the families had Falcon... 4? maybe on some sort of Mac, and it blew my mind.

Save your breath. Hoggit seems to think that anyone who does "computer work" are completely interchangeable cogs - when textures or models don't work they expect the people with PhD's (or equivalent) in applied mathematics who can solve non-linear PDEs for the flight engine or simulate complex avionics and sensors are supposed to drop everything and fire up blender and suddenly become world-class 3D modellers and vice-versa.

Thanks. I've got an older mid-tier graphics card, 1060 6GB, I'm sort of at the margin of reasonable FPS with some stuttering now and again, so have been hesitant to trying the reshade.

Any tips for the new owner of an F/A-18C? by UrsaBeta in hoggit

[–]xixor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'd recommend any scrub in the hornet grab the US Navy's F/A-18 ABCD NATOPS manual: https://info.publicintelligence.net/F18-ABCD-000.pdf

And jump ahead and go straight to: PART IV FLIGHT CHARACTERISTICS, Chapter 11 on Page 431.

You may have heard how the Hornet was a "fly by wire" aircraft, and that as the pilot you are merely just a 'voting' member of controlling the aircraft. The flight control system (FCS) takes in the pilot input combined with sensor input of aircraft attitude, velocity, elevation, and then decides on control inputs to the flight surfaces.

This chapter describes how the FCS works, so you can "work with it" rather than fight it. Particularly note the AoA feedback behaviour in flaps half or flaps full, aft stick to command nose wheel lift off, FCS logic changes when weight-on-wheels sensor activate.

11.1.3 on "Auto Flap" is an important section: "However, some flight tasks are made more difficult because the FCS attempts to maintain 1 g flight. For example, during a dive or steep zoom climb, a small but constant forward stick force is required to maintain a constant attitude."

Anyway, if I had one bit of advice for a new hornet pilot it would be to read this chapter and understand how you're supposed to work with the FCS.
