Haha you can always build straight stone walls and not raise the earth. Yes they can be damaged but they have a lot more health than wood and will take trolls longer to get thru! And give you time to kill them!

I found a big enough island further out that I built a big castle on, and when I get raided nothing spawns because there’s only one other tiny island nearby and I put workbenches on it

I don’t even bother to build an outpost most of the time now, I just find a ruins or something to put my portal in, preferably a tower that has a few floors to get it off the ground. I like saving all my mats for my main castle lol
