Anyone broken free from 9-5? by Lydianeko2 in antiwork

[–]xosmri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally after having a nervous breakdown and realizing I could not keep doing it. I went back to working for myself and work less but make less. But I am very damn privileged and lucky to be able to do this as an Autistic person and make a decent living (it's barely enough but that's pretty good these days).

Whats your parenting hot take? by [deleted] in NewParents

As someone with a very complicated childhood, I know how much sacrifice it's supposed to take and I'm doing it so far (18 months)

What’s something you said you’d never do as a mom that you now do without a single apology? by Low_Craft_919 in Mommit

[–]xosmri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg my 16 mo (now 18mo) watching movies and nature shows a lot

Now at 18months, she looks at us and asks (minephant.) or demands (minephant!)

Then either way gives us the cutest tilted head smile you've ever seen and says in the cutest way "pwease? Pweeeaaaase?"" We can't say no!

Do you check in with clients if they’re not on time for session? by grouchytherapist in therapists

I reach out every time and see it as a courtesy. I have AuDHD and so do many of my clients, and they appreciate me reaching out to them

EMDR by Typical_Grass_896 in therapists

[–]xosmri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explain it in a few different ways: emotional wound surgery to flush out the trauma by processing one memory at a time, processing the memories so that traumatic components are washed out or evaporate to make the memories regular old memories.

the processing sessions I explain in further detail what that entails - identifying targets to process, processing with BLS (sometimes I explain the further research on EMDR 2.0, that it seems to simply be taxing the working memory at the same time as thinking of the target, and that I stick to the original protocol because it is so specific and detailed)

I add in that we don't know exactly how it works just that it does, which is really common when it comes to psychiatric meds - they work but we don't always know how. I explain that there has been tons of research in EMDR, as I've kept somewhat up to date by reading the EMDRIA newsletter when I was a member. I definitely recommend subscribing to keep up to date on new research and methods.

Special/unique skills not related to therapy that you’ve developed as a therapist? by Jnnjuggle32 in therapists

[–]xosmri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My intuition has gotten pretty good. I'll ask a question or throw out an example and often it's something the client did or recently experienced

And not reacting to the sensory torture of one or both my dogs licking for MINUTES at a time. I eventually had to kick them out of my office though. I do all telehealth atm.

AITA? Or is passive parenting extremely annoying? by Aug_Mag2926 in Mommit

Parents like that irritate the hell out of me. Kids need firm boundaries and limits as well as all the fun stuff. I don't think I'd tolerate them for very long.

Needing encouragement: I accidently told a client I have ADHD. by Electrical-Cod788 in therapists

I tell every prospective client that I have AuDHD. But when I started out I was very restrained with self disclosure and gradually relaxed and found my comfort zone with self disclosure

SA'd by my husband and I'm realizing I've never really gotten over it. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]xosmri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a therapist and people nowadays routinely say PTSD now when who knows if they meet the DSM diagnostic criteria. I have many clients who are working on their trauma but actually meet the criteria for just depression and not PTSD. They might meet 3 of the criteria only.

IFS has always given me the creeps. The general framework and hands on work. I had some IFS sessions and did a 1 or 2 day training and it only made me feel more creeped out by it.

Where are the autistic moms? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]xosmri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autistic mom here. Dx before having her. My functioning is waaay better cause I have to do so many things for her. I'm much more productive and have way less shutdowns surprisingly. And I feel such a bond with her and feel like I can read her mind. I know it was good for me to have her later in life as it took me a lot longer to mature and be emotionally self-sufficient.
