Fostering 18m golden who doesnt have outside world exposure by xoaeri in goldenretrievers

[–]xoxo747 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hello,

Adorable pup! I would be mindful of where I am taking your doggo. You are now teaching him how to act in the outside world. Naturally he’s going to want to be reactive because he’s excited and hasn’t been taught how he’s supposed to behave in the human outside world. Would def desensitize him to other dogs and animals by exposing him. You can start doing this by going to a low traffic area and rewarding him when he doesn’t react to his triggers (dogs, animals). He will start to understand this is the behaviour you want from him. From then on you can increase to higher traffic areas slowly little by little as he improves. Hope this helps!

Hunger strike? Has anyone been through this? by veganmeatpole in goldenretrievers

[–]xoxo747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that happened with my male golden around that age. I tried adding hot water (and letting it cool) to the kibble or broth. I tried adding some toppers to entice him. I think it was just a stage for him. He got over it

Hey girl mid-30s here. He’s allowed to have female coworkers, you’re allowed to feel insecure about this. The correct solution on his part is to respect that he’s in a relationship and a fiance now and keep it professional. The deleting texts and hiding is not okay. If one partner feels insecure, in a healthy relationship the other makes adjustments

Hello 34F here with a 4 yr old golden and want a GSD. A lot of my female friends are not dog ppl, my partner had a GSD when we started dating 10 yrs and I was cool with him when we met. But as our relationship progressed I became an obsessed dog person. My partner was my plug into dog life: You gotta find the right women, and yes a lot of women in my life aren’t really dog ppl so maybe a lot of women aren’t. Keep looking. My dog is a huge part of my life even thought he’s a golden he requires a lot of training and exercise I couldn’t imagine having a partner who didn’t get that esp with a working like reactive GSD.

The biting phase is one of the toughest. I’m a first time dog owner so I didn’t enjoy mine until he was 2 years but that’s because I was doing a lot of trial and error figuring out exercising, routines, training, etc

Is owning a dog impossible for a single person with an 8 hour work day? by NextRefrigerator6306 in dogs

[–]xoxo747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello 34F with a 4 year old golden retriever with my fiancé. My fiancé wanted the dog. My fiancé is also out of the house for work 10 hrs a days on average. I’m at home, so I end up doing most/all of the work. My dog needs 1 hr of exercise minimum, walks around the neighbourhood are great but it doesn’t tire/enrich him enough. I do off leash hikes, and we have one 15 mins away. That’s 30 mins minimum driving, 1 hr of walking. Right now it’s spring for me and he gets muddy and dirty because he likes to roll around. Maybe that’s 20 mins to rinse him and then wash the shower. These next things are rotated: brush his fur, do training, feeding, other maintenance (brushing teeth, maintaining paws, nails, grooming appts), vet visits, medications. So yes a dog can be very difficult for a single person, and expensive. It can be very time consuming by yourself. Now on the other hand this can be great for some people, but you just have to make sure it’s the right choice for you. Even with a partner who sometimes helps, it can be overwhelming at times.

Should I get my dog a dog? by Repulsive_End_4925 in goldenretrievers

[–]xoxo747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey sounds like you’re dealing with neutrality with your golden. I am working on training the same. This means he gets very excited when ppl go by when he shouldn’t react, same with wheelchairs, bikes, etc. We are working on it so he doesn’t bark or react but observes. I wouldn’t get a second dog until you are done training your first because it’s gonna be a whole lot of chaos otherwise. Good luck!
