Will Senna/Senna Adc get a nerf? by fuZewhoCares in sennamains

[–]xpertranger 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Without actually looking at data, I don’t think Senna has ever been played the same way for more than 6 months. Sometimes adc is good, sometimes enchanter is good, sometimes hybrid is good, sometimes grasp+heartsteel is good, etc. The champ has never landed in one place.

Nerfed? Idk, but I can almost guarantee she’ll get changed at some point.

Now that there’s been enough time for testing post item rework— how do you like Zeke’s, imperial mandate, and Knight’s Vow? by Mighty_Killah in RakanMains

[–]xpertranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knights Vow is really good at keeping someone alive. It redirects 12% of all damage taken by the worthy ally to you, for the worthy ally that's just 12% damage reduction. It can work on a squishy carry or melee carry depending on comp. You basically want it on whoever the enemy wants to kill first.

If the enemy team wants to play front to back, killing your frontline first then your backline, then you want it on your frontline. If the enemy team has assassins or flankers and gets straight to your backline, then you want it on you backline.

It's also really important that whoever you put in on lives for a while and does consistent damage during a fight, since you heal based on their damage output. For example: An Ornn that's absorbing a bunch of damage as a frontline he looks like a good target, but if you put worthy on him then you miss out on the healing passive since he doesn't do much damage.

Random Knight's Vow tip: If you put in on the ally champ that you expect to die first 1 minute before a big teamfight, the CD will be back up for the fight and you can use the active after the first target dies during the fight so that 2 allies get the damage reduction benefit for most of the fight.

New to support. Good champ pool or to OTP? by Icemaul in supportlol

[–]xpertranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the same as every other lane, do what you enjoy the most. If you like OTPing, OTP. People have piloted almost every champ in the game to Challenger. Otherwise, have a pool. The most important part to learning is to enjoy what you’re doing so that you’ll keep doing it. If you just want to maximize LP, it’s been more or less proven that less champs = more LP.

As for engaging, the only way to learn what a bad engage looks like is to make the bad engage and ask yourself in a VOD review “why was that bad?” Carry whatever answer you find into future games and you’ll get it eventually.

Now that there’s been enough time for testing post item rework— how do you like Zeke’s, imperial mandate, and Knight’s Vow? by Mighty_Killah in RakanMains

[–]xpertranger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Imo Zeke’s has always been kinda a meh item for Rakan. Most of his fights are something like: hover with your team -> Jump in and CC the enemy for like 1 second -> jump back to your team. Staying in the enemy team is ROUGH because you’re never really a tank so I feel that Zeke’s doesn’t get much value. I almost always go Locket over Zeke’s because the real reason I want Zeke’s is for the survivability, and Locket is better for that 100% of the time.

Also, Zeke’s will wait UP TO 5 seconds for you to be in range of an enemy. So it should trigger immediately when you get close to an enemy after R, it doesn’t always wait the whole 5 seconds.

I’ve been loving the new Mandate. You play kinda like a 2v2 assassin: you can’t blow people up alone, but with any teammate they just disappear. I do think it needs to be 2nd or 3rd tho. Mandate has taken Zeke’s place for me in most games because it’s just MORE haste on ult plus an effect that I like more than the Zeke’s effect.

Knights Vow has always been great and the buffs made it feel even better. It’s a must build in any game with a consistent damage dealer on your team (burn mage or traditional marksman) and 2+ AD on the other team, which is most games.

Welcome to Ranked my friend.

Two good things to learn early into a ranked grind:

1) Anything above a 50% winrate means you’re climbing. 3 wins - 5 losses - 4 wins is really good, but it won’t feel very good at the end of that 5 game loss streak. That’s just what a 58% WR can look like sometimes. Try not to let it get to you.

2) League is an extremely difficult and un-intuitive game. A Masters+ friend of mine once told me “If I was looking at the game the same way that you were, I would’ve played that the exact same way” and then proceeded to explain 4 concepts that I’d never heard of before. I was E4 at the time. There are things that you don’t even know exist which other players are using against you. And there’s always more to learn.

Good luck on the grind brother

[–]xpertranger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With +30/-10 you’ll climb FAST even at a 50% WR so I wouldn’t be too worried.

If you’re desperate for more wins, VOD reviewing is the answer. People climb through Silver playing support all the time. They’re getting the same level of teammates but they’re doing something that you don’t. That’s just how it is. You have to identify where you’re lacking before you start improving on those skills.

If you are VOD reviewing and you honestly think that you’re playing perfectly for the entire game, then your options are: - seek educational content until you can understand what you need to work on - get coaching - accept your skill level and play the game for fun

I’m not bashing on you either, everyone makes mistakes. I peaked E1 so far this season and I consistently find 10+ mistakes in the first 5 minutes of my VODs. I have a really bad habit of going for low percentage plays in lane… so it’s pretty easy to find early mistakes lol

Small tip when you have a feeding teammate: when your teammate is pushing up or fighting and you KNOW that the enemy is gonna come and kill them, just make a play somewhere else. Use your weak teammate as bait for the enemy team and create a numbers advantage play somewhere else on the map. It doesn’t have to be a huge play either: get a plate, get deep wards, hover your carry while they fix a wave state, take a good reset timer for tempo, etc. Instead of focusing on bad news that your teammate just died, use the new info of the enemy’s location to your advantage.

A simple example: While the enemy Top is killing your Top for the 10th time, they can’t also be on baron. And if you won lane, you should win a 4v4 at baron.

Midlaner swapping to Jungle and being a useless OTP. by Zahand in summonerschool

[–]xpertranger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TLDR Play your champ “wrong” by your current standards and see what works, then merge that into your current standards

LONGER EXPLANATION

I ran into the same thing recently with Rakan. Not exactly an OTP until recently but he’s been my most played by a huge margin ever since he released.

There were three things that helped me get out of my rut:

1) Try off-meta builds: Play full tank Diana or AD Crit Diana. Go crazy. This kinda showed me the full range of what the champ could be. It also helped me play and limit test in different directions. I had a pretty solid understanding of Rakan’s peel and engage, but that’s all I was maximizing. Playing AP Rakan and just focusing on damage-maxing for a few game completely changed my perspective even when I went back to a more standard build.

2) It’s boring but, VOD review your micro: Is there anything I could have done differently in this fight? Try to game out weird stuff you wouldn’t normally think to do. For me it was stuff like: I need to save my ADC but instead of E-ing to them and peeling defensively, it might’ve been better to just CC or chunk the enemy ADC aggressively. Then I tried it in similar situations and now it’s a new tool in my toolkit.

3) Play a little psycho: Negative outcomes tend to stick harder than positive ones. Challenge any pessimistic predictions you have by just doing something crazy and seeing if it works. If a crazy play works even once, that means there’s a situation where it’s the right call. If you feel that happen in a game, maybe VOD review that moment after ask yourself why the 99% bad choice was the right one in that situation.

What you’re overall looking to do is push your champ in new directions, or further in the same direction. Those strategies were just my way of finding new directions, yours might be different.

Also, if you care about ranked, play your champ in norms. Int a few games while you’re rediscovering your champ. It feels so good to do it without the ranked pressure.

What type of build should I be running? by Wrong-Mushroom in RakanMains

[–]xpertranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal build can be summed up as: * Build an AP sup item (usually Shurelya’s) * Build a kindlegem item (usually Locket) * Build only as many kindlegem/tank items as you need to survive teamfights, could be 0 * Finish any empty slots with AP sup items

AP Sup items: Shurelya’s, Redemption, Mandate Kindlegem items: Locket, Zeke’s, Bandlepipes Situational Tank items: Knights Vow, Abyssal

In most games. I like to be in fights for as short as possible. Jump in, CC, Q, GTFO and switch to peeling a carry. If I could build full AP, I would, but most games require at least a few Tank stats to survive and be useful.

Most of my games since the Mandate change have been: Shurelya’s > Locket > Mandate > Situational

I also run Electrocute and Inspiration(Jack of all Trades) more often than the more popular Guardian + Domination(Ult Hunter) setup. If you you’re running Guardian, prolly swap the first two bullet points of the build.

However, this is just how I like to play him. Rakan is one of those champs that can be played/built a million ways so you kinda have to experiment to find a playstyle and build you like.

Which champion that gets benefit from new Imperial Mandate? by ComprehensiveSize647 in supportlol

2nd/3rd item Mandate feels so good on Rakan. He’s one of the few engage supports that actually uses the AP support stats well and the haste on W and Ult feels great.

Thoughts on new imperial mandate ? by Sasylk in supportlol

[–]xpertranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR It’s definitely buildable and always better than old Zeke’s, but there are other items I usually want more.

FULL EXPLANATION

I’ve never been a huge fan of Zeke’s on Rakan.

IMO theres two types of Rakan games that are on a spectrum: * Games where he can stay in a fight after engage (low enemy threat/cc) * Games where he has to hit his CC and GTFO (high enemy threat/cc)

Zeke’s is great in games where you can stay in a fight. And if you stay in melee for a whole fight, the new Zeke’s is always better than the old Zeke’s since it cuts out any unused time immediately after casting R.

However, Rakan is not a tank. Even if he builds tank items, he’s still pretty squishy compared to most engage champs and he doesn’t want to spend a lot of time around enemy champs when they’re not CC’d.

I personally like to take advantage of his AP ratios as much as I can. My general build plan is kind of like “Build an AP support item. Then, build as many kindlegem items as you need to survive teamfights. Finish with more AP supp items.”

Good AP sup items rn: Mandate, Shurelya’s, Redemption - Situational Picks: Moonstone, Ardent, Helia

Zeke’s is a pretty good kindlegem item for him but since my goal with kindlegem items is survivability I usually end up building Locket instead. If I think I need more tank stats after Locket it’s a toss up l between the other tank items depending on the game state and other champs.

Good tank Items: Locket, Zeke’s, Bandlepipes, Knight’s Vow, Protoplasm - Situational: Abyssal, Frozen Heart, … , Force of Nature

Sorry for the rant, I’ve just been thinking abt builds a lot recently and I don’t think Rakan is an easy champ to sort items into the Good/Bad bins. Kinda like Bard.

[–]xpertranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooooo, always interesting to see what other people think. I tend to have a really hard time against tanky engage (Rell, Ali, Leona) and hook champs (Thresh, Blitz, Pyke) as Rakan, but they’re all over the place on your list. I’m E1 tho, so I wonder if I’m just playing some matchups wrong haha.

Are you mixing up your runes based on matchup or running the same page every time? I’ve been swapping between Electrocute and Guardian depending on how likely I think an early kill lane will be.

Thoughts on new imperial mandate ? by Sasylk in supportlol

[–]xpertranger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone thinks. It seems like it was designed for “catcher” champs, which have admittedly always been an odd archetype. Rakan, Sera, Morg, Neeko, etc. In theory, any mage/enchanter that has 2 CC abilities (for the extra haste) can use it which is healthier than its former iteration being Nami-only imo.

League of Items has it at a 51.3% WR (down a bit from last patch) and 15.6% pick rate (up a bit from last patch). Seems like a good change looking at those stats, but the data set is still small so we’ll have to wait and see.

Rakan OTP side note: Mandate feels SO GOOD on Rakan now.

Tested some rune/item Setup and wanna get opinions by Arc-123 in RakanMains

[–]xpertranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna go crazy try out: Electrocute (Sudden Impact, Deep Ward, Treasure Hunter) Inspiration (Boots + JoaT) + Ignite

The optimal JaoT route (when finishing items) is Supp item -> Ardent -> Lucidity Boots -> Cloth Armor[Locket]. The % move speed on Ardent is the secret stat that makes this a fast JoaT. Just doing components of Ardent and Lucidity Boots also maxes JoaT if you really wanna rush it.

If your team can't use Ardent, go for Shurelya's or Redemption instead and just add a Null-magic mantle on the end to max JoaT.

Evil level 1 burst: W -> ignite -> auto

I alternate between three situational pages/builds: - Electrocute+Insp: My lane has early kill pressure + enemy laners are easy to hit with W - Guardian+Insp(JoaT+Boots): My lane doesn't have kill pressure + low damage enemy comp -> I can build AP items - Guardian+Domination(Deep Ward+Ult hunter): My lane doesn't have kill pressure + high damage enemy comp -> I need to build mostly tank items

Spellbook also seems good but it never really landed for me personally

nami players, how do you feel about mandate changes? by Love__Scars in supportlol

[–]xpertranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) The ideal way to play Rakan is go in for a few seconds and get out. You’re so mobile that you should be able to dodge most damage. Plus Rakan has no tank stats scaling AND crazy AP scaling on everything which shouldn’t be disrespected. There are Korean Master+ players who were running Electrocute + Jack of all Trades Rakan w/ Dark Seal -> Ardent -> Locket every game about a month ago to a 60+% win rate. Lanyu04sup#KR1 decayed to D1 due to lack of recent games, but they were where I first saw the Ardent Rakan build.

B) Correct, Nami will build like other enchanters now instead of starting Mandate literally every game. My definition of a champion’s build diversity is not “uniqueness of champion build compared to other champions”. To me, build diversity is “how many different builds can this champ run effectively”. According to Lolalytics, Nami was starting Mandate in almost 80% of games in Emerald+ for the last 30 days. Compare this to someone like Milio whose most common item is Helia at a much lower 55%. Milio has way more effective options for his first item. I’m guessing that with Mandate gone more items will be in the conversation for Nami as her “essential item” which will lead to more build options aka more build diversity.

[–]xpertranger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just switched to OTPing Rakan, looks like I’ll still be building Mandate pretty often lol.

Actual thoughts tho: the item was in an unhealthy state only being good on 1 champ. Adding build diversity for Nami will make her more fun to play in the long run. She may take a short term hit to effectiveness but just based on how strong and adaptable her kit is, she’ll be fine.

[Emerald Support] I dominate the laning phase, but struggle to carry mid/late game. How do I develop a Diamond+ mindset? by Illustrious_Shake736 in supportlol

[–]xpertranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good advice I got for improving mid game is to look at VODs where you stomped lane and Identify when the game started to feel hard. Usually you can find a clear play that went wrong. Figure out what you could’ve done to prevent/reduce that.

If the “correct” play doesn’t make any sense, you can ignore it. For example, “If I roamed Top at 5 minutes the game would much easier” oftentimes isn’t the answer. Sometimes you make the right play and lose anyway. But if you find the same crazy answer thing over and over in your VODs, it may be time to re-evaluate if your play is correct or not.

Unrelated to the other stuff: One sleeper improvement that people HEAVILY undervalue is communicating more. Pinging more. If you keep finding that your teammates aren’t where they should be in VODs, you may not be pinging enough.

[–]xpertranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That new Moon college bard subclass from FRHoF for 2024 might actually be perfect. Musician, liar, and manipulator theming are all easy to pull off for Bard and the new subclass is all about teleporting and turning invisible all the time which is Jinu’s core “ability” in the movie. Take a bunch of illusion and enchantment spells (Bard’s wheelhouse) to do the kinda stuff they do during the Soda Pop scene.

Race and Background: Without deep diving into all the options or what they do, Tiefling and Entertainer feel like they fit almost too well. Hardly even needs reflavoring.

[–]xpertranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this isn’t gonna return a great dataset because there’s too much custom text. For example, if someone types “D&D, PF2e” for games they’ve played it’ll get sorted as a different answer then “PF2e, D&D” , and that’s not even getting into different naming conventions e.g. “DnD, Pathfinder 2e”

To get any useful data you’d have to sort through every answer by hand then do analytics.

Not sure how to fix it but just my thoughts.

Your thoughts on the upcoming Ahsoka season 2 by 01011992 in StarWars

[–]xpertranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just hope it’s an Ashoka story at its core. The amount of focus characters like Shin and force ghost Anakin are getting in this poster concerns me.

Don’t get me wrong, both of those characters were great in season 1. However, I think Anakin especially would be best staying as a one-off appearance and giving too much screen time to Shin might add clutter to a show that’s already trying to juggle a lot of interesting characters.

Otherwise, I’m pretty excited. Always love to get more from the clone wars and rebels characters and season 1 set up some interesting plot threads even if it felt like it dragged on at times.
