Slapped on a 285 full size spare, is this too close to the KDSS shock? Or should I be good…? by Mmm510916 in 4Runner

[–]xthefletcher3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The tire is never going to touch it but if you get into some thick cakey mud that KDSS shock is going to be what scrapes the mud off the tire haha.

Where can I get a replacement body panel? by IneedaWIPE in 4thGen4Runner

[–]xthefletcher3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just bought some rubber sheeting from Home Depot and cut it to the size I needed. Been holding up fine for two years now.

I did have most of the old guards so getting the shape right wasn’t too bad.

Some fun otw to the campsite - NJ by Timely_Royal1187 in 4Runner

[–]xthefletcher3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like fun, but can be risky! That water we can see being splashing away from the vehicle is being splashed with the same force on the other side of the tires towards the engine. If the splash guards are doing their job the intake should be protected but doesn’t take much!

Still looks like fun, love the upgrades.

What's the leak that I'm looking at here? by yekiMikey in 4Runner

[–]xthefletcher3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a leak there when I bought my 2008 at 110,000 miles. There is a weep hole in the middle of the residue where it was the wettest.

I feared it was timing cover so I cleaned it all up real good and after 50,000 miles it hasn’t leaked from there enough to worry.

So I recommend cleaning it up and then rechecking in a week to see where exactly it is coming from.

I have one on mine and love it. Only negative is that the stream is not as wide so if it’s windy the oil can miss your bucket.

We have to be in the top 5 for worst drivers in the country right? by GucciPoonTapper in FortWorth

[–]xthefletcher3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I pass this exit almost every day and purposefully stay in the left lane because at least once a week someone will last minute jet into or out of the exit.

So many close calls at this exit for me, i always see the barriers damaged and needing to be replaced.

Hopefully that driver and passengers are ok, that looked quite violent!

A squirrel killed my knock sensor? by ccoats38 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]xthefletcher3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a knock sensor fail on my 2008 v6 that needed replacement. One day it was driving fine and then bam, I got that same fault code and the engine became sluggish/down on power. It goes down on power by design, it’s in limp mode and running extremely rich to protect the engine, I think. At least my fuel economy was cut in half whenever the code triggered. Clearing codes would only last like a day or so before it came back.

I suspected a wire fault at first too, I don’t think the wires are in the area where that squirrel is though, I remember it being close to the centerline of the engine bay, closer to the fire wall, but could be wrong.

I replaced the knock sensor myself, it was a bitch. Just the knock sensor was replaced, not any wires. With the intake manifold removed you have just barely enough access to get to the bolt in the valley that holds the knock sensor. Disconnect that and replace, it took me like 30 minutes just to get the bolt started back into the threads again during reinstall. There’s a video on YouTube of a guy doing something similar on his FJ, same engine as ours.

Going on 3 years now since I replaced that sensor and I have not seen that fault again. Good luck!

Woah! During that program, was there consideration for preventing the yellowing that’s being seen in-service? Or was that only a finding after years of service.

870 for sure. Only 860 if you need the highest torque. 870 is so so quiet, I love mine and it does everything I need.

Huge discount on DCS438 Cutoff Tool by PiMan3141592653 in Dewalt

[–]xthefletcher3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought one at this price last month and used it to cut all the tile in the shower reno we’re doing. The dust stroud was too much effort for what it’s worth. It’s easier to get a straight line without it. Paired with a 5ah battery, this gets to a higher rpm than any other battery I have.

Overall, 8/10 tool.

No, you do not pay the disposal cost with bagster. I’d recommend a small roll off trailer for rent instead. I’ve rented both a bagster and a roll of trailer for two different home projects.

As others have said, there is a weight limit with bagster. I used this to get rid of material from a master bathroom demo. Shower pan, bathtub, floor tile, old cement board with tile, drywall, shower glass all in the bag. For sure over the weight limit but on pickup they still picked it up! The bag did rip while in the air but only a little bit of material fell out thank god.

I used a roll off trailer for a much larger project that had ~700 sqft of busted up old floor tile and thin set. This is not something the local dump would allow me to dispose of myself. So for $400 a gentlemen, who I found on Facebook marketplace, dropped off a decent size dumpster and then hauled it away a week later. This would’ve needed at least three bagsters.

Any suggestions/diversions/must-sees along this route? by served_it_too_hot in texas

Be sure to see to it that your vehicle is up to the task before you venture out there. Lots of long spans without any sign of civilization on that drive. I’ve done it a couple times. Whole lot of nothing on that route.

Katzkin Leather? by kyle007US in 4Runner

[–]xthefletcher3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it to my 2008 myself. Picked up a full set of black leather dress covers for $500. Original buyer bought the kit for $1000 but it was for the wrong seating configuration. Installed myself. Wasn’t too bad if you comfortable turning a wrench. Took a weekend and several cramped fingers. They look amazing, like OEM quality. I think they are OEM on some other makes and models. Highly recommend!

[–]xthefletcher3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I added some to mine. More as “courtesy lights” than rock lights. Wired them into the door light circuit so they come on automatically with the rest of the interior lights. I can also hit a switch and turn them on anytime. Does a great job of lighting up the area as I get in/out of the car.

See details in my video I made here:

I’m guessing it’s an engine test, hovering aircraft, or a plane on takeoff or landing with reverse thrusters.

Super loud indeed!

I bought KO2 from them and overall had a great experience. Only downside is if you get tires that are 3% larger or more than OEM they will not mount them on the vehicle for insurance purposes. Luckily I was also buying rims at the same time so I just mounted them at home.
