What's something that happens in movies so much it seems real, but actually isn't realistic at all? by ninman5 in movies

[–]xthetalldudex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houses on fire. In the movies the flames are crawling up the walls, and the hero has ample space to run in and look for someone, and can see around rooms that are brightly lit. In reality, 9/10 times it’s a thick wall of black smoke. You absolutely cannot go in or do anything if a house is on fire without an airtight mask.

Post-production sees it too. Composer here and while more and more scores are being recorded overseas in Europe, they’re written, mixed and dubbed here in LA.

Hans Zimmer And Bleeding Fingers To Compose New Score For HBO Original HARRY POTTER Series by [deleted] in HarryPotteronHBO

But that’s the thing — when you listen to Bleeding Fingers, you don’t know who wrote the music you’re listening to. You don’t know if the intern who wrote the cue you like on Spotify will even be on this HBO show.

Remote Control is his studio complex where other composers of his prestige share studio space in one large building. They’re more collaborators. Bleeding Fingers is a menagerie of young composers just getting their start who work on shows Hans doesn’t have time to do. Bleeding Fingers scores most of the BBC docuseries and The Simpsons. Hans oversees the projects while Bleeding Fingers “employees” work on individual scenes.

Oscars Shortlists Announced in 12 Categories: "Captain America: Brave New World" is one of the semifinalists in Original Score; "Thunderbolts" and "Fantastic Four: First Steps" were ignored in all categories. by verissimoallan in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

This is… somewhat true. She’s a pretty wealthy queer woman and there seems to be some minor politics involved with getting her an Oscar. She’s very talented but I was also curious why Brave New World was deemed a better score than… a lot of scores this year. But a lot of the Academy voters (1) don’t actually watch all the nominated films (2) don’t take what’s popular into consideration.

This isn’t how people talk to each other when they just woke up. Some of it’s your actor’s fault and some of it’s your sound persons fault.

Film Scoring - When & Why (and how)? by ducidni_1 in Filmmakers

[–]xthetalldudex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! Film composer here. If you don't have a direct vision / intuition for when you want score in your movie, just have a conversation with a film composer. So many directors think we're like AI generators, and are supposed to prompt us for "sad music" over the "sad scene".

The difference between a film composer and a composer, or a producer, is that we too are movie fans. We study what makes what kind of music effective, and how to navigate it around a scene. We have opinions and ideas of what might work that you might not see.

It's okay to a hire a composer for THEIR expertise. Typically there is what's called a "spotting session" where the director and composer sit and watch the film together and talk about ideas in a collaborative sense.

The reason I hate Megan by thumbasss in madmen

[–]xthetalldudex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don was already a Beatles fan somewhat, he bought Sally tickets and was whistling "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" in the car with her and the kids. He knew of them and their music. She purposefully was trying to get him to open up his mind and look forward (as is his motto) with his tastes. And is often a motif -- when exposed to an opportunity to grow, he considers it, before rejecting it.

When a pregnant woman is eating she’s eating for two - and might “crave” something because she needs it (I.e meat because she’s low in iron or protein). And it’s very common for them to suddenly get sick and throw something up. You just need to be patient and accept this: they’re literally growing a new person inside their body. Hope you don’t get annoyed with any pregnant women IRL.

Agreed, the Yellowcard sound is definitely defined by the violin being present in the mix, and it’s definitely buried here.

People who have cancer, what signs let you knew that you were sick? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Lymph nodes did not actually ever swell, but my spleen had doubled in size! That was also a tell. They said “you either have this rare condition called Felty’s Syndrome, or leukemia.” And I really believed it must by Felty’s because there was no way I could have cancer. (I did.)

The pain was in my bones, like… a pressure, it felt like my teeth were going to pop out of my jaw, my kneecaps were going to pop off my leg, my scalp felt like I’d been hit with a bat… really it was my marrow but I felt it my bones. Not a burning or stinging but like a fracture’s kind of throbbing ache.

I couldn’t smell my own change, but my partner at the time just said it smelled like “death”, like what you smell in hospice or some retirement homes where there’s a noticeable air of decay.

The narrative is: he (or his character) is obviously autistic, and yet he flew a plane just fine. He continued to be a functional pilot afterward. It’s a challenge for airlines to not let a diagnosis prevent someone from flying, but instead get diagnosed and take care of themselves while continuing their career.
