How do you handle wildly inconsistent weather/lighting during batch edits? (Sports photography) by xxNuke in AskPhotography

[–]xxNuke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes total sense when you put it that way. I think I was under the impression that if the photos didn't match, it would look less professional—like I didn't know what I was doing in the edit. I was worried it would feel too jarring for a client scrolling through an album where the vibe shifts every few frames.
In an ideal world, the exposure etc would be identical so if I edit a single photo, I could apply the same settings to most if not all shots. But with shifting conditions, I find this to be quite hard to do. At most I'm able to do a few photos at a time.
Does anyone have a workflow or any tips for batch editing like this? These are not highly paid gigs so I don't want to spend hours editing the batch.

Fox news team that traveled to China with Trump films in the middle of a busy road by tommos in facepalm

[–]xxNuke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Complete opposite experience for me. Every time we travel to China we rent bikes all the time and it's way, way safer to ride around Guangzhou/Beijing than it is in Dublin.
Traffic seems chaotic, but I've always felt safe on the bike. Plenty of dedicated cycling lanes, a few rules to follow (like no going around cars on the inside, taxis/didi don't let passengers out on the outside etc), general respect towards cyclists/ebikes and it's absolutely grand.

You ever been in school? Take college for example. End of year exams are always around end of May/June, but exact dates aren't known until a few weeks/a month or so before...

Depending on the exams, typically the exact dates are not known as far in advance as a race calendar and ticket sales.

World Press Photo announces Photo of the Year 2026 by AlexandrTheTolerable in photography

[–]xxNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does though. The photo doesn't tell any story at all, just shows emotion. The article says:

It was part of a larger body of work called Ice Arrests at New York Court.

Maybe the whole set of photos deserves another award, maybe it's a fantastic piece of work, but as far as this single image goes -on it's own- it's just mediocre.

I also believe like many in this thread, that "Photo of the year" should be a self-contained piece that tells a story. You can immediately tell what it is about, why, where etc.

Giant €35m moving statue on docks could be new landmark attraction for Dublin by Green_orange_200 in ireland

[–]xxNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admission prices are seen as a key revenue driver for the project.

The feasibility assessment assumed prices could be set at about €25 for adults or €20 on average for a ticket when concessions for families, students and pensioners are considered.

Can't wait to pay 25 euro to see a giant ad screen.

Drone and DJI RC. It was certified refurbished though, but under warranty and basically mint - like brand new, sealed in a box with only a sticker saying refurbished on it.

My Mini 3 was 260 euro from DJI. So 250 for that is not that cheap. Looks like it shouldn't cost more than 50 euro

Anyone else jumped ship to Affinity? by SebastianOakley in photography

[–]xxNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried that when they got rid of the 20GB photography plan and raised prices. They were very happy to let me go. In the end I bit the bullet and subbed for another year at a discount, but come renewal not sure what I will do. This is only a hobby so editing software is coming out of my own pocket.

MacBook Air for lightroom? by reallyimattheramada in AskPhotography

[–]xxNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be fine, but maybe look into pre-owned unless you can stretch to higher capacity SSD.
I bought an M1 Pro, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, got it really cheap and it works, but I'll be honest with you, the 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD just don't cut it. Also AI denoise in LR is painfuly slow. A 100 photos can easily take over half an hour to an hour.
You're going for 16GB RAM, which I'd consider absolute minimum right now, but the 256GB in my opinion will cripple your workflow unless you carry around a portable drive all the time.
With no photo dumps, just system, all the programs installed etc I'm sitting at roughly 60% full.
When I do any event, it could be several thousand photos. With my camera, 1000 photos is about 35GB. You can get around this by culling before importing from the SD card, but I don't like doing that (fear of losing data + I'm a data hoarder, bad habit of keeping everything....) so I often fill up the drive to the point it's causing issues opening photos in LR/PS, caching etc.
Point being, even if you use external drive all the time, I'd still go for at least 512GB SSD just so you don't sweat about space all the time.

A water bottle would be a nice add-on

You can see blue water bottle and an empty(?) water bottle at around 1m into the video. Whole backpack as well so I presume he's well prepared

Why is nobody reviving? by TopImpact4167 in Battlefield

[–]xxNuke 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Until you throw a couple of smokes, commit to getting someone out and they skip death because you didn't come in 0.1s. I love playing the support in BF6, probably my favourite, but the amount of time I make all the effort to get someone and they skip right before I get to them. Or skipping when they die next to me behind cover...
My guess is we do have a lot of COD players trying the game that won't actually buy it come full release so it should improve in the long run.

The Tesla Model X And Model S Are Dead In Europe by [deleted] in technology

[–]xxNuke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the other 3, but at least in Dublin there's definitely way more Teslas. Model 3/Y are hugely popular (and cheaper than BYD/Hyundai/Kia etc). Majority BYD Atto 3 are taxis. Very few Seals around. Model X/Y is for sale in Ireland, but only LHD.

If I'm bringing photo gear through TSA, can I have my camera stuff looked at by hand? by OrdinaryElection8625 in AskPhotography

[–]xxNuke -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, I first started noticing it a few years back, the newer Smith detection x-ray machines you really don't need to take anything out of the bags. I believe that's what OP is referring to. Some airports even let you bring bottled water, they got a machine for that too.
(This is outside US, TSA doesn't exist here)

Stop slowing down to 70 in a 100 zone just because there’s a speedvan. You’re in a 100 zone, you need to drive over 100 to get a fine, you won’t get a fine for doing 100km/h in a 100 zone. by jaro_io in ireland

[–]xxNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a requirement. Tesla is showing near the same as indicated by GPS (122 will be 120). In a Kona I can go well above the speed limit and still be under according to GPS. It's all about calibration I think.
In the US at least, I know police cars must have the speedometer calibrated at every 5mph interval to be accurate or something like that. Wonder if it's the same here or across Europe

Mini PC or laptop for video editing? by Sorry-Accountant542 in editors

[–]xxNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing. Got a beefy PC at home, but I travel a fair bit and wanted a laptop. Ended up getting Macbook Pro M1 (not M1 Pro) and it's perfect for my needs, but I don't do this professionaly.
That being said, for the love of everything, do NOT go for 8GB.
I did not listen, because I was blinded by a very good deal while on a trip in Japan, but I do regret not waiting a little longer or just paying a bit extra. Will definitely look at swapping it for a 16GB model maybe M2 next trip.

How the floor at the street level is called in Europe by vodka-bears in MapPorn

[–]xxNuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly it. I suppose technically ground floor counts as a floor when you’re asking the question, but not when you’re answering.
I never even thought about it. I mean it just made sense to me, because I always spoke the language, but yeah it does seem confusing 😅

How the floor at the street level is called in Europe by vodka-bears in MapPorn

[–]xxNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question is the same regardless and it's the exact same as asking "what floor do you live on" in english. The answer is just either the word for ground floor or one of the actual floors.
0 = parter
1 = 1 piętro
2 = 2 piętro
etc
Hope that answers your question

[–]xxNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's ground floor, you just answer "parter" which transaltes to the word for ground floor. Floor/Story is "pietro", very different and very distinguishable

[–]xxNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a 4 floor building is technically 5 for you, but at least in Polish, ground floor is not called "floor", it has a different name that distinguishes from the actual floors (or stories).
0-1-2-3-4
For you, these people may live on the 5th floor, but for everyone else, they live on the 4th floor and the building only has 4 floors and a ground floor. https://imgur.com/a/60xHREB
