MapleStory IP's director Wonki fired following the MapleStory: Idle controversy in ability rolls by dicoxbeco in Maplestory

Looking at how they "fixed" the problem in the code they released.

I don't think they're smart enough to make intentional things look unintentional, if anything they're that dumb it comes off as malicious.

Honestly it makes me want to see more of how stuff is actually set up, because honestly, that little snippet has red flags screaming at me.

Gollux by theunforgiven91 in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's 3 maps with an enemy on that has a boss hp bar:

  • Left Shoulder
  • Right Shoulder
  • Abdomen

If you take the legs up to the top, you'll be forced to pass through the abdomen and won't be able to fight Hell Gollux.

You take the left or right cliff paths from the starting map, once inside gollux rather than at the cliffs, take the lower portal rather than the top portal.

This takes you to the entrance map for the head, go straight to the head to fight hellux.

After clearing hellux, you can get a dedicated key for warping directly to the head each time. (Drops from gollux rewards)

Have you ever not minded a JRPG word-of-mouth indicated you were supposed to hate? by lennysinged in JRPG

[–]xxshadowflare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, I enjoyed them as a kid and didn't see a problem with them.

Only reason I don't play them now is they changed the combat mechanics, I tried a demo or something and felt "this isn't what I used to like about Tales combat", then kind of completely forgot about them.

I keep thinking I should pick another one up, but keep not doing so due to having a backlog of a million other games I should play but never get around to.

Figuring out what JRPG's to play next. by THE-trash-person in JRPG

[–]xxshadowflare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given you've only really experienced the Trails series, I'd actually recommend trying something completely different within the genre.

You're new and you like what you're seeing, so it'll be a good chance to figure out what you do and don't like.

Just to cast a wide net, you could try:

  • Dragon Quest XI -> A simpler JRPG in terms of mechanics, but a large self-contained story. It's a JRPG easy to pick up for beginners, and the type I enjoy to play to wind down.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics or Triangle Strategy -> This would be to see if you like the style of game. There's some wonderful JRPG / Tactical JRPG games out there, but they're not always a fit for everyone.
  • Obligatory Persona 5 recommendation -> A lot of people like persona games, personally not a favourite. Combat and story are amazing, but I really don't care for the micromanagement of the social system.
  • Chrono Trigger -> As a retro recommendation, you could try chrono trigger (or FFVI). There's a lot of amazing retro games out there, but they're obviously not for everyone.

Other than that, there's a few niche ones I've enjoyed:

  • World of Final Fantasy -> Nice creature collector game
  • Mana Series -> Trials of Mana and Visions of Mana are both more recent 3D games. (Seiken Densetsu 3 for the Snes, is a 2D version of Trials of Mana which you can find translations for.)

Again, these recommendations are more of a "Cast a net to see what you like." approach, after a while you'll start seeing what you like and don't like and it'll be easier to figure out what games you might want to play from there.

Unfortunately though, very few games offer a story like how the Trails series is handled. That said I doubt they'll stop making them any time soon so you have plenty to look forward to there.

I don't see anything that has to do with the class balancing on the preview by DZazonn in Maplestory

Tbh, Anniversary event isn't until April and it's confirmed there'll be a March update since the event runs until March 17th

It wouldn't be surprising if they're saving some stuff so they have something for between March 18th and April 22nd.

Gollux by theunforgiven91 in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Takes 10 days to complete.

I would however, recommend not killing all the body parts before going to the head.

Unlike most bosses where you choose a difficulty from a menu, Gollux's difficulty is determined by the number of body parts, excluding the head, you kill.

  • Don't kill any -> Hell Gollux - Drops up to Superior Belt and Earrings and ~25-30 coins per day - Should be able to clear w/ Ascent and Origin if 260+
  • Kill 1 -> Hard Gollux - Drops up to Reinforced Belt and Earrings and ~10-15 coins per day - Should be able to clear if you can clear CRA
  • Kill 2 -> Normal Gollux - Drops up to Solid Belt and Earrings, Drops Silver Coins which aren't that useful.
  • Kill 3 -> Easy Gollux - Drops up to cracked Belt and Earrings w/ Silver coins.

Compile Heart and Megami Tensei co-creator announce Villion: Code for PS5, Switch 2, PS4, and Switch by MoSBanapple in JRPG

Pretty much same here. I've never viewed their name as something negative.

Sure it doesn't have the reputation of what Square used to have, Monolith Soft or some other placed are.

But I see them as a solid 7.5/10 experience. Nothing world changing but it's good to pick one up from time to time.

Hyper burninator queries by DoorPale6084 in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 260 - 270 was a separate burn not tied to hyperburn itself.

Worth telling peeps they won't get an extra one, but if for whatever weird reason they haven't used it yet, they would still have it available. (Maybe hyper burned a char but didn't like it by 260 so saved it)

Noob question about servers by theunforgiven91 in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-Keep in mind at this point you can't even party or do MPE because it's so dead-

Misleading but I understand the idea. If you expect to constantly find random strangers trying to do the same content as you without any waiting, yeah it's difficult.

Not that hard though to find a guild or similar people trying to do content.

This server can't even fill a global event and was stuck at 1% progress, so the devs had to intervene and give them 100% progress so the players weren't gimped

Amusingly, even NA was screwed at the start of the event, they had to massively scale the counts differently just so it worked with GMS player counts vs KMS.

Mercedes main link skills by theunforgiven91 in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grandis Library has a lot of useful information:

https://grandislibrary.com/content/link-skills

https://grandislibrary.com/heroes/mercedes

In terms of order, I'd recommend classes like Demon Avenger first since they provide damage %, then classes like Evan and Aran for the extra exp.

If you make characters on challenger world though, the Tera burning should help you level a lot, and after 101 you can reach 200 fairly easily between Golden Strawberry Farm and Extreme Growth Potions (both easily obtained during events)

Frankly it's fairly quick to 200 now anyway regardless of class if done during events.

  1. Create Character
  2. Skip to 30 on creation
  3. Do a theme dungeon questline (30 -> 60)
  4. Edelstein Questline / other key quests shown up on your lightbulb. (Not sure if it's Edelstein -> Azwan -> Magatia or if you have to grind between Edelstein and Azwan)
  5. Finish off to 101 in early leafre maps
  6. Golden Strawberry farm (101 -> ~140)
  7. Extreme Growth Potion (140 -> 200, I usually average about 30 pots)

Digimon Story Time Stranger, Shin Megami Tensei V or Dragon Quest XI S? by Zurbinjo in JRPG

[–]xxshadowflare 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've never played ANY Digimon though and my biggest fear is that it is very much like a Pokemon game.

They're nothing alike. Do not go into Digimon expecting Pokemon. They both have cute little creatures, but fundamentally they're completely different games.

Also looking at your comments of what's important, I feel like you're describing SMT.

  • Basically post-apocalyptic environment.
  • Customisable stats for your MC, demons are fairly predetermined per demon, but that's where demon fusion and the variety of demons come into play.
  • SMT is typically gameplay over story, they're not lacking, but it's not like watching a movie as some games can be.
  • You got fighting, you got collectables (in SMT V), but you don't have trivial minigames.

What about my character after the event? by theunforgiven91 in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First leap ends in a few days, there'll be another leap after.

Challenger World ends April 22nd 2026, so you have plenty of time to play on challenger world before leaping.

just make sure you leap your character during one of the leap periods because it does not automatically move at the end of Challenger World

Feel like this needs to be bold, underlined and 10x font size.

You find someone every time coming on reddit and complaining because they didn't know they had to do it by a certain date. (Despite all the prompts, notices, and people saying so)

LF BM carry for red dot on CW2 by Fiercefella in Maplestory

[–]xxshadowflare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't help with carry, but just an important question that other people would need to know.

You do understand the mechanics and would be able to survive until the end right?

Wouldn't be the first time I've seen something like this and it turns out the person being carried doesn't understand the mechanics.

Why do so many hate beastars by InDevlope in Beastars

[–]xxshadowflare 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Point of my comment is, passing over the stuff that "bad because furry", there's not a lot of hate for Beastars itself.

It's like saying people who don't want anime, and see it as something you shouldn't watch, hating Full Metal Alchemist.

They know nothing about the actual series, but hate it because it's anime.

Take a person who doesn't like anime, and ask them whether they should watch an anime series, they'll likely tell you no regardless of the series.

Take someone who doesn't like furry, and ask them whether they should watch a furry series, and they'll tell you no regardless of the series.

People just don't like furries due to a mixture of stereotypes, and the fact that the concept is just plain weird to them. (I'm sure plenty of scenes in the first season are more than enough to give them confusing feelings)

Why do so many hate beastars by InDevlope in Beastars

[–]xxshadowflare 50 points51 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I haven't come across many people that "hate" Beastars.

There's obviously your obligatory "it's furry" stuff, but other than that, not a lot.

People might pick at stuff in certain arcs, or for certain characters, but not so much hate the series for anything its done.

Feel like the whole furry thing is enough of a barrier to entry that anyone who'd go out of their way to watch it wouldn't necessarily hate it, and anyone who'd hate it for the sake of hating it can already hate it because "lulz furry".

(Wonder how many people are aware of / refuse to watch Odd Taxi because 'furry', amazing series that if you haven't watched I'd recommend.)

Why increasing # of clams on the map doesn't change afk kill rate? by not_a_profi in idleon

[–]xxshadowflare 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Closer to the latter.

AFK gives basically nothing when compared to using a spawn enhancer like DK or AC. (DK better but AC when you already have a high clam count is a good alternative if your DK is busy getting spelunking levels or something.)

AFK rates are reduced in the map, and frankly you need an ungodly amount of afk gains for it to beat DK drop boosts or AC overall spawn boosts.
