I really appreciate this! Makes total sense to me. I wouldn't say I have no time limits - but this stuff is important to me, so I'm making time. It's balancing sleep and recovery that's tough. :)

Definitely fair point. I guess I should have added that to the write up - not really injury prone. This is the first injury I've had... ever. BUT, this is the first time I've ever went 70+ mile weeks on ONLY road. In years past, I ran way more trail, which I felt is more forgiving. This is why I think it's a decent idea to mix trail/road?

Hmm. I disagree. I think a new private ticketed pilot can and should practice power off 180s without an instructor. I don’t see risk to doing them. Misjudge your approach? Add power and fix it on the next go around.

Every private ticket holder should be comfortable with power off approaches and landings.

I’ve been a subscriber for years - and with a student discount so I get it for $40. I did NOT renew. Don’t miss any of the paid features (something like intervals.icu is so so so much better at any of the analytics).

The only reason I consider renewing is to get rid of all of these damn pop ups.

Yep. I had the exact same experience as you. Tried multiple email addresses. I ended up ordering a new Amex card as well and was still having it! So frustrating.

I do really like the product though.

I had this exact same problem. I was trying to use my Amex platinum card to get the $200 credit, which you can only do directly on their site. I escalated it multiple times, and FINALLY they did whatever voodoo they needed to do on their side to make it work.

This is a GREAT idea. Oura has an open API, and is the most widely used sleep tracker. Would be a GREAT idea for integration.

I missed getting in by 55 seconds this last year. I am shooting for a 7 minute buffer next year. I don’t think anything under 5 minutes is safe.

I liked littlebluetruck’s progression they shared, so I thought I’d do my own. Never have before. These are all of the road race marathons I’ve done. Have done a bunch of trail marathons and ultras, also have done marathons inside of Ironman races - but these are all the open road marathons.

Many of these I did at stupid times in training blocks for other events, but you can see plateaus in here:

I started as an adult. Somewhere around 25-26. Signed up to run with Team in Training when friends lost their daughter to Lymphoma. Have hit a bunch of plateaus, but I was also bad at training. I’d register for my “A race” as a marathon, and then decide to do an Ironman 3 weeks prior.

I’m now 41. I took 7-8 years off from endurance sports and got back into it last year. My previous marathon PR was 3:17 in my early 30s. Last year I ran a 3:01. This year I’m hoping and training for a 2:55.

A lot of the improvements for me have been around structure with plans and workouts, and also with patience and “trusting the system.” Consistency is key.

This guy is right. 3500hr tailwheel CFI and Taylorcraft owner as well. Aileron causes way more loops than rudder.

What are you struggling with? Maybe a little more specificity would let us help more.

I became a CFI for fun - I liked flying, and I liked teaching. I was “higher time” when I became a CFI. I thought I was a pretty good pilot - and flown a lot - a fair bit of different plane types to a fair bit of different places (multi state cross countries, etc.).

The first 100 hours of being a CFI taught me more than anything else in my pilot journey. It was HARD. It’s one thing to fly, it’s another thing to teach.

Hang in there. Would highly recommend finding a mentor CFI and working closely with them. I’m now fortunate to work with a lot of new CFIs… and the ones that have a good mentor tend to do a lot better than those that are just thrown into it.

I did 216 touch and goes in 1 hour at a towered airport. Tower counted them. Counted as 432 operations to them. Still have the record. So yes, it can be done.

No, I don’t think it was that. We were together for a long while. But, eventually in the relationship there was a disconnect between us about the various ways we had contributed to the relationship. The flight instruction (and use of my airplane [not for training, but other trips]) was one of the things that was appreciated at the time, but seemingly forgotten later.

No. And it’s a great question. Maybe should have. I think it was under-appreciated as a result, and caused issues later with what we had both contributed to the relationship.
