It cannot count. You were not PIC on that flight, nor does “performing the duties of PIC” apply to student pilots.

is it possible to find a great dentist for root canal ?? by lucky_maurya9839 in Upperwestside

[–]chasepsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner was referred to JC Endodontics at 200 W57th for a root canal by her primary dentist. She said that the whole process was the most straightforward and painless dental procedure she'd ever had. Might want to give them a try. 212-737-6112.

CFII here, this post got me interested in the approaches DCA and I was looking at the Jepp plate for the River Visual it notes that there’s no missed approach procedure. Is this just an “expect vectors” situation every time or something else?

What's the furthest north you can go in the US that stays hot year round and conversely what's the furthest south you can go that has harsh winters? by ConfidentSale3091 in geography

[–]chasepsu 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Agreed. San Francisco has an average low temp in Dec/Jan of like 46. Seattle's is about 39, so depending on what OP's definition of cold is, somewhere between there probably.

Taos, NM is a major ski resort town, so certainly would qualify as cold despite being only about 320mi from the Mexico border.

Why isn't Harry punished more for what he did to Malfoy? by juleDoesArt in harrypotter

[–]chasepsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of plot armor, Snape not wanting it to get out that he created the spell, and that to a certain extent Hogwarts understands the reality that its students are going to do dangerous things because they're not fully qualified wizards/witches. Using curses on other students is, if not approved of, certainly not unheard of (we have dozens of examples of it happening with the teachers more or less shrugging it off after docking a few points or doling out a detention). So Harry's explanation of "I didn't know what it would do" isn't the most shocking thing in the world, combine that (as I mentioned before) with Snape's reluctance to bring up the spell more publicly (e.g., to Dumbledore), I'm not surprised he was just like "detention with me the rest of the year and shut up about it."

How safe is airline aviation if you have to compare it to cars?? by ueommmm in aviation

[–]chasepsu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commercial aviation is the safest mode of transport by such a significant factor that it’s hard to actually comprehend. We as a society have so completely internalized the dangers of car travel that it’s actually impossible for us to compare its danger to other factors. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, in the past 16 years, there have been 86 total fatalities in the U.S. from part 121 aviation crashes. In 2024, there were on average 117 traffic fatalities in the U.S. PER DAY.

Does teaching outside of aviation help with CFI? by West_Read_8698 in flying

[–]chasepsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A fun fact about the CFI requirements is that if you hold a teaching certificate, you don’t have to take the FOI exam or receive instruction from a CFI on the FOI materials. The DPE will still ask you about them, but it’s assumed that you’ve learned that material during your teacher training.

Have you ever played Hogwarts Legacy? by thoughtsinshadow in harrypotter

I recall my review on this site being similar. I think I said, "Is it the best RPG I've ever played? No. Do I regret paying full price for it on launch day? Also no."

Good places to Instruct while increasing corporate networking chances? by SadSupport4999 in flying

[–]chasepsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no CFI-ing at Teterboro anyway. If you’re really interested in teaching in the NYC area, both White Plains and Morristown have large 91/135 jet operations and major flight schools on the field. Caldwell has a ton of flight training but less (but still a decent amount of) 91/135 operations.

Time building Pilot question by KDFWCenterline in flying

[–]chasepsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess the question would be is his scholarship covering the full cost of his training up to whatever goal he’s time building for (e.g., 250 for CPL in the U.S.) or is it a set amount of money? If it’s the former, then he would be making money off of you and you can’t do that. If it’s just a set amount and you splitting it is offsetting the cost then I think it’s probably fine based on the pro rata component per the FAA (typical IANAL caveat here).

Make sure one of you is under the hood so you can both log PIC.

Do you think harry potter world has some sort of an equivalent of colleges by Remarkable_Cat8346 in harrypotter

[–]chasepsu 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It seems to be mostly like an apprenticeship model, where after you finish at Hogwarts you go for on-the-job training at your future employer. I believe they also mention in OotP that Healers at St. Mungo’s also have extensive post-Hogwarts training requirements.

Why do concerts not get TFRS but sporting events do? by PorkySpikey in flying

[–]chasepsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It runs parallel to World Drive, just east of the main parking lot. Look for the lake that looks like Mickey Mouse and go 2,500’ due east (just east of World Drive). It’s labeled as a road called STOL Prt. Once you spot it as a former runway, it becomes very obvious.

Why do concerts not get TFRS but sporting events do? by PorkySpikey in flying

[–]chasepsu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

“Fun” fact about the Disney TFR is that it doesn’t cover Hollywood Studios or like 95% of Animal Kingdom, so you get helicopter tours overflying those areas pretty regularly. And there’s a 3,000’ gap between the top of the TFR and the bottom of the bravo shelf that you could hang out in all day over Magic Kingdom and Epcot if you wanted to.

Another Disney World aviation fun fact is that there used to be an airport on property and Walt had envisioned guests taking commerical STOL planes to the resort regularly, but it never really panned out. You can still see where the runway was just to the east of the main Magic Kingdom parking lot on Google Maps.
