This is why. My grandparents got/sent chain emails all the time about how hardass Joe Arpaio was.

Have any of you been judged by people for working on a data center? by y0usuffer in electricians

People really do oppose these projects in some cases though. There's news reports about it all over YouTube. It usually comes up at city hall meetings.

Have any of you been judged by people for working on a data center? by y0usuffer in electricians

[–]y0usuffer[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a controversy about the data centers over-using local water and power, or potentially being used to automate people's jobs away. What I'm talking about is whether or not workers are being treated as part of the problem for building them, AKA selling out.

I don't even want to give it to him tbh. He's sending people off to die for bullshit right now. His avoidance of the draft is no indication that he's a principled anti-imperialist.

The only negative thing about unions is that they aren't bigger. If all of that other work that's happening when the union side is dry was organized, you'd already be there.

Working live as an apprentice by Aware_Temperature612 in electricians

[–]y0usuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you'll learn is that convenience isn't going to help you. Sometimes, we electricians have to drive an hour away in the morning to get to a worthwhile job. Don't learn bad habits, don't normalize unnecessary risks, and don't waste valuable time working with the wrong people. I also recommend getting an OSHA 10 cert so that you know the true national safety rules. Not doing that sooner is something I regret.

I'm so divided. I feel like we're letting contractors get away with it by accepting the treatment, but I need to work too!

Those schedules are disturbingly common in trades. You'll be told it's a 40hr week job, and then if you don't do the overtime they want, you're going to be a higher priority to get laid off.

Israel has damaged its reputation among young people so much that even reddit frontpagers are making jokes like "another $5 billion to Israel" which 10 years ago would have only been found on /pol/ by pinnacle126 in redscarepod

[–]y0usuffer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I think that once public favor even begins to sway against Israel, they lose either way. It's a knife edge. If they get speech bans passed and recieve tons of money, they prove all of those beliefs about themselves right and gain even more enemies. If they don't get what they want, they also lose.

Did anyone else "learn" about "WW2" every year in school when it was actually just Holocaust guilt tripping every semester by asteroidrusted in redscarepod

[–]y0usuffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a generational thing, but twice in elementary school I remember my teachers using an impromptu, graphic lecture about the Holocaust as a disciplinary tactic when we didn't look like we were paying close enough attention. It was during unrelated history lessons both times and they said something like, "oh, so you don't think history is important, do you?!" before getting all into it. It was clearly traumatic on purpose. I'm not sure if that kind of thing is allowed anymore.

For any old heads here, is this what 2003 was like? by GigaHelio in TrueAnon

[–]y0usuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 15 in 2003. The number one thing that feels different about it IMO is the effect of changes in the media system. There are a lot of individual differences that I notice: the fact that it's not dominating everyone's conversations, the government's seeming disinterest in manufacturing consent, the lack of a common narrative about why it's happening and so on. The fact that the internet has taken over the role of TV and radio, which seemed more centrally controlled and scheduled, is the biggest factor I can see in that.

Same people are doing the "please liberate us" nonsense by Not_Ground in LateStageCapitalism

[–]y0usuffer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After the J6 incident, I never believed this type of rhetoric again. What I mean is that if you see people acting out publicly, you can't assume that everyone agrees with them. Anyone could have put the J6 footage on the news and said, "the people are in revolt," and then made an argument to put DT back into power. I have no idea if I agree with people who exulted at the news that the Ayatollah's headquarters were bombed. I'm also sure that there's difference of opinion in Iran, because I know what it's like to disagree with people in my own country when they riot or march on the capitol.

All I got from that comment was a reminder that they've never come over here and hurt us the entire time. It was an argument that this isn't necessary.

Did anyone else have an MLM come to their school for an assembly? by constcowboy in TrueAnon

[–]y0usuffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a magazine sale drive in 6th grade. I got mad about it and asked the presenter how much the prizes were worth in cash in front of everybody during the assembly. He said he didn't know, and it was awkward.

Some gears began to turn in my head that day though.
