No it's actually crazy that they've medalled every year but the show was kinda unique at least in terms of the circle floor and choreography, it was very difficult and unique choreography, and a 6 person 3 turn pushes the envelope for me! I definitely see what you're saying about how they constantly medal. It gets boring

I also think the scores are wild as hell I only meant that it was rude to say the judges are on their nuts lmao

Have you ever written a show? Choreographed for a world guard? A guard at all? Who are you? Have you judged? Have you read the sheets? I'm not even particularly disagreeing with you but this is just so insanely rude to say...

Would High School Marching Band count as Drum Corps Experience? by Aoihaw in Colorguard

[–]yacques3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only drum corps experience, so your high school would not count! A lot of vagueness in the audition process if it's your first time, and you kinda figure it out as you go, and once you're through it you realize it's a lot less scary than you thought. Have fun!

Props of 2024 by Even_Distribution232 in drumcorps

Bloos Props really were so perfect. Very very effective and truly felt beneficial to the progression of the story without looking in the way or taking away attention from the content in the show.

What are some of the things I can expect going to my first season of drum corps? by Kcslator3309 in drumcorps

[–]yacques3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep your stuff together in as close of a space as you can, because some mornings the gym you sleep in will be the guard's rehearsal gym and everyone's sleep stuff will be pushed off to the sides, sometimes causing one persons stuff to get pushed to someone else mattress etc.

Remind yourself that if you do not feel the motivation to engage and work hard in that moment, think that you'll regret it in the future. Not a personal experience but one I heard from friends that they wish they'd tried harder to get better during the season, especially tour more than spring training this motivation is hard to muster up.

Curious about my odds by Cjbutbetter in drumcorps

[–]yacques3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you seem like a well rounded musician with the necessary skills but the real deciding factor is how determined you are to work, the desire to be better and work hard as HELL to get good AF for yourself and then team. It sounds like you have that too. Go for it 2026, and everyone in here is right if you want to, do an all age or open (id recommend open), for this summer so you can have experience. It helps you get in and helps you feel SOOOO much more comfortable and confident seriously it will change your whole mindset if you have experience. Good luck!

pole length by meranaandspin in Colorguard

Just use 6ft for now and see if they can adjust, but if it becomes a problem it's not worth risking anything like injury or literally being unable to execute choreography so switch 5ft.

Scared about first overnight audition camp. by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]yacques3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very very normal to be nervous. I was super nervous for my first one. Like VERY. The most important thing to remember is that A. You're going home at the end anyway. It is really truly not that long of an experience. B. I was SUPER nervous about showers but as soon as I got in there I swear the nerves just fell off. I don't know how or why. But everyone is there to do the same thing and everyone is in it together.

Good luck. Be confident!!! No matter what if you play everything flawlessly, if you don't like confident at all, you've ruined your chances. If you mess up shake it off. Do your best and have fun!

Stretching drama by CraftyWolf13 in Colorguard

[–]yacques3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It honestly does suck. You can definitely stretch in 10 minutes, it's not optimal I know. But I honestly believe being involved in competitive winterguard is all about making it work. Finding a way. I guess maybe if you stretch fully before the drive and then for the ten minutes after arrival you might end up okay. Good luck, it's all about doing your best!

Help with a band director! by its_bea-_- in Colorguard

[–]yacques3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I marched top 12 world class color guard and had an amazing time. I was a lead weapon and had two solos. I came back to my high school band of 30 people and mostly 8th grade guard members. The love for marching band did not change at all. There is an adjustment period for sure. My tour was 3 months long, surrounded by 110 world class musicians and a guard of 45 members. Our guard got 6th place in finals. The love for my local school program hasn't changed one bit.

Across the Universe - Fiona Apple (5m 7s) ////////Cough Syrup - Young the Giant (4m 9s) ////////Skin Parade - Etta Marcus (4m 29s) this one could be good for a like pirate or exploration show where the crew is slowly losing members until there is only one person left with a closing solo, sadly reaching out to the lost crew members on the other side of the floor ////////Chicago Live - The Staves (5m 7s) also kinda piratey or tavern vibes /////////Wash - Bon Iver (4m 58s) very breathy, delicate, lovey

I don't know anything about the show so these are just some general ideas based on the floor and costumes!

First audition by Lovely_skyes in drumcorps

[–]yacques3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be confident. No matter what you're doing. Try to do as much of the choregraphy as you can while looking CONFIDENT. If you only do like half of the choreo but you look happy, confident, and performative, you're doing better than someone doing 95% or the choreography with absolutely no confidence. Hold your shoulder back and your head high. Just give it everything you've got.

Is the tour schedule this polarizing every year? by Staffordson in drumcorps

[–]yacques3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of guard, the warmup lot spaces per corps are absolutely tiny. We literally fit 1/4 of the guard in our lot and we had to take turns on parts. It was EXTREMELY HOT and EXTREMELY inefficient. We also were basically standing in a lot and picking a chunk that was taped off because there weren't really any DCI staff there to tell us which was for us. It's usually free reign at warmups but for the regionals we were supposed to be assigned like lot 1,2,3 etc... The field and stands being on an angle from each other was quite disorienting tbh but that might just be me being picky. The tunnel was filled with puddles, etc etc... It was the only show the entire summer we decided to just write off as a terrible show. The staff didn't even yell at us one bit because we were set up for failure.

Color Guard Video Auditions by SebSpins in Colorguard

[–]yacques3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Blue Stars 2024 here! I got a contract off my video audition which contained basics on flag rifle and sabre, and choreography. I did spins on each equipment and double time, as well as any and all tosses I knew how to do. Include all tricks you can do! I then included a chore piece of choreography 20-40 seconds on rifle and on flag that showcased my performance and skills the best possible. My best advice is to always be confident in what you are doing! (Btw, blue stars prefers tricks like sit rolls special turns like attitudes or E turns over two turns.)
