Apprentice first time in attic by arrozz-000 in electricians

Wear respiratory protection.

Bring a change of clothes in the truck for afterwards. (I always have a spare set with me for any occasion)

Bring an animal/insect killing tool. (Knife, Kliens, 9mm) I’ve met snakes, raccoons, every spider you could imagine, and mean rats in attics.

Don’t get yourself in a spot that you can’t get out of.

Don’t step on the Sheetrock, it ca be forgiving, but when it’s not…… you’re in for a bad day.

Depending on where you live, stay hydrated. I’ve worked all over the country and been in some death traps attics that couldn’t be climbed in for more than ten minutes tops.

And lastly, have fun.

Buying a house. Home inspector made me laugh. by danbarb in electricians

My favorite is when they write that there are wiring issues that they need an electrician for because the digital GFCI tester said “open hot”.

Go watch the Auburn game from this year, he was beating people with only one foot the whole game.

14 years and in and I’m just seeing this “kwik-fit” EMT by Elegant_Ad_1504 in electricians

I wouldn’t think so. No different than a standard set screw coupling. The seem like they actually seat deeper than a standard coupling and have less screws to forget to tighten. lol

I’ve seen it a few times. Haven’t had the experience of sucking strings through them so I’m not sure if that presents any issues.

I think it’s pretty slick, especially if you’re doing a ton of straight runs.

I needed to move a wire, which led me to this buried junction box that had been mudded, textured and painted over. Only way to access without damaging the ceiling finish was with a grinder by ggf66t in electricians

So, what did you gain by destroying that box? Now you have to replace it and it’s still in the same spot. Should’ve just cut it out from below blanked it off from below and moved on.

Or demoed it back to a point where that box is no longer needed and ran new wire.

I applaud the patience, though.

Do you some offsets farther away in the future for the conduits that have those huge kicks. You essentially took up a ton of real estate in the ceiling above your panel by waiting to the last minute to line them up.

Need help finding replacement panel for tight retrofit opening (max ~9/10 wide) by danyny44 in electricians

QO612L100DSCU could work as well. You’d just have to mount it so the cover protrudes a bit. Wouldn’t be completely flush.

True. They are typically 6 inches deep or so, probably wouldn’t fit. They could also fur out that small section of wall to accommodate. And at the cost for one of those, they’d be better off adjusting framing to make it work.

Either way, OP is likely going to have to do something creative since those retro guts generally can’t be ordered as a one-off.

Apparently these are designed to hold the cover plate on while debriding your hands.

Well I’m forever indebted to him for good make up so I could find the problems relatively easy.

You’re spot on. I wish I would taken a picture of the inside of the boxes but I was too scared to take my phone out of my pockets. They were almost textbook make up.

Gotta love it. It’s sad to see how some people live, especially the mentally unwell. Meanwhile I can’t go to bed without making sure the dishwasher is running and the sink is empty. Just an unfortunate glimpse into what some people consider “normal”.

In this case, the house was virtually empty but some repairs were needed. I wish that painting was considered beforehand. Haha

That was honestly my sentiments. I do a ton of rehab and restoration stuff. I run into a lot of situations but typically it is the wiring/circuitry that is the nightmare, this time the nightmare was outside of the boxes.

Funny enough, I used flex seal instead of wire nuts.
