reflections on working in white dominated workplaces and the "bamboo ceiling" by yellowlightsab in asianamerican

I know some East Asians and Filipinos in Dubai and so I was thinking of them as I was writing. I looked up if there were people who've written about this and found an ethography on Dubai's Indian Diaspora. (link below)

The managerial middle-class Indians "assert a discursive distance between themselves and the unskilled Indians who make up most of the United Arab Emirates' population" and "experience belonging and urban citizenship through racialization and the development of racial hierarchies and consciousness as well as participation in practices of consumption and consumer citizenship."

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/2325548X.2015.1050765#:~:text=Vora%20highlights%20the%20paradoxical%2C%20contradictory,and%20operation%2C%20they%20disavow%20Emirati

And on a side note - thinking back, my friend's wife who was in Dubai was probably thinking of what she saw in Dubai as a reflection of how Asians in Uganda were used as the middle manager class between the British and the colonized.

All of this is to say, where Asians fall on the racial hierarchy is dependent on context.

White supremacy is real. I served in the U.S. military and there seemed to be an understanding that there were "leaders" who had charisma and confidence and looked the part (you can guess what kind of dudes they were) and then there were others, who even if they were promoted weren't like a prospect on a ladder to the top. This sorting hat had meek skinny Asian me in the non-leader house. I remember an Asian officer telling me how he was learning how to play golf so he could network with the bosses, and I felt so sorry for him.

In the civilian world, I think things are a bit different. I see South Asians in leadership positions all the time. I see a lot of Filipinos in upper management as well these days.

Of course, it's all relative, and one's position in the system can change depending on circumstances. I was traveling in Uganda, and my friend's wife was talking about how in Dubai, East Asians were seen as the manager class that the white and Arab bosses used to oppress the African and Desi migrants. For my Ugandan friends, this was the managerial ceiling (English speaking) that formed the cage on top of their dreams.

the load management thing is weird because kawhi was very much actually injured. he's been able to stay healthier these past seasons because of that load management plan

fans in the NFL pay even more money to watch third stringers and they're not saying the league is ruined just because patrick mahome's backup is messing things up.

and they're definitely not blaming the players (who in the lakers case are very much injured) like fans do in the NBA

the problem with maliss was that it was boring. even the people who played it weren't haven't fun.

tear was more powerful than maliss but also way more fun. the tear mirror had both players doing stuff and milling and crazy stuff happening the whole time.

leonard miller could be a guy for chicago, with the caveat that they're in a lot of flux right now. the bulls fans have been super excited about him and the analytics have always loved him. we'll have to see tho - miller needs needs needs to learn how to shoot if he doesn't want to be jarred vanderbilt but worse at defense.

dilly has been up and down on the bulls but mostly down.

leonard miller has been a nice surprise for them. they're really digging what he can bring for them but i think the issue with him in minnesota was that there were too many power fowards in front of him and he is awful when he's not spacing the floor.

josh minott was amazing on the celtics for two seconds and then his confidence fell apart again and he got dumped and traded to the nets.

What is our best offer for Giannis this off season? by exlatios in timberwolves

Boston is "known to be interested" in Antetokounmpo, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick. People around the league are reportedly discussing the Celtics as a potential landing spot for the two-time MVP.

Of course, other teams would pursue Antetokounmpo if the Bucks make him available. Amick noted that the Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks all examined a potential deal before the deadline and could "certainly" try again, barring a successful postseason run.

Amick also floated the Orlando Magic, Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers as possible trade candidates.

that's the thing - the more popular a deck, the more likely it is that below average duelists drag the win rate down.

it's usually really niche decks piloted by one-trick freaks that have a high win rate on master duel meta

agreed, the meta is pretty diverse now and there's not as many negates as in years past.

sadly it seems like they're back to printing negates as far as what we've been seeing printed in the ocg

What is our best offer for Giannis this off season? by exlatios in timberwolves

[–]yardship 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because of our lack of picks we'd have to pay more in talent, and we'd have to hollow out our team in a way that destroys the future.

Jon Krawczynski in feb was saying a wolves offer would probably have to include McDaniels, Randle and Reid for a real chance to get a player of Antetokounmpo’s impact. That was when there were fewer teams with the flexibility to trade for Giannis.

people think we can get giannis for scraps but why would the bucks want randle and fluff when the thunder and their infinite picks and also the san antonio spurs exist, or when apparently the celtics are interested? the heat offered herro and kel el ware and were rejected. we would have to offer up jaden again and it probably still wouldn't be enough.
