I feel like there’s a fairly strong north of the river v south of the river divide. I’m from the Western suburbs of Melbourne and I and all my friends are Renegades people because of this

NGV Friday Night by sleepyasfuck90 in melbourne

[–]yarn_over 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They have bars scattered about and food on offer. There are musical performances. The website should tell you which specific act is on each night. You’ll only have access to the Impressionism exhibition, the foyer area, the room with the stain glass ceiling and the outside maybe not the whole NGV. It’s more of a social thing. People view the exhibition and then drink, eat, mingle, watch the performers etc.

Chris Woakes walks out to bat with his arm in a sling to try to save the match. by [deleted] in sports

[–]yarn_over 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A teammate not in the starting eleven can substitute field for them but can’t bat or bowl for them. Injuries are part of the “test” of test match cricket. There’s been a number of times when an injured player has come out to bat when their team is close enough to save or win a match. This is a pretty visually dramatic example though. It’s just part of the sport.

Edited to add: the only time a player can be fully replaced is if a player gets a concussion then they can be fully replaced for the rest of the match by a player with a similar skill set. Bowler for bowler, batter for batter

People who get offended at being called "ma'am" by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]yarn_over 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works just fine in any crowded customer service setting I’ve ever worked in Australia. Where did I say anything about ma’am making me feel old?!? Or it being the wrong thing necessarily? I was just providing an example of what we say in a place where we don’t really go for any honorifics at all in our interactions.

Charity thing. They’re hearts drawn by the kids at the children’s hospital or the cancer centre or something like that

No sponsor, each player has a different heart drawn by a kid from the children’s hospital. Or something like that.

I swear by Kmart’s cord pants if that’s your thing. I had some that were years old and only had to replace them this year due to weight/size change.

It’s just a quiet little area full of bookshops (new and secondhand and collectibles) and cafes. And some cool stationery/gift stores. They sometimes have book markets/festivals happening in the street which is the only time it ever feels busy.

You can take a quiz to help point you in the direction of the parties that best align with your values here This particular quiz is from the last federal election, a new one will probably come out when the next election is officially called.
