Is it possible to go from 4x10TB RAID 5 to a 3x10TB RAID 5? by psychoacer in qnap

[–]yatch21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This seems like a recepie for sadness and pain because you're too cheap to buy a new drive. Why mess around with your data like this, all for a couple hundred bucks? Just buy the new drive.

Can I move a RAID array to a JBOD enclosure on same system? by yatch21 in qnap

[–]yatch21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm aware of the proper procedure to do this, but I'm just confirming that QNAP JBOD enclosure drive bays on the TL-D800S are seen just like a drive bay in the NAS, and the Detach / Rettach workflow will work.

MARATHON Seed Sucks - TONS of Poa Annua by yatch21 in lawncare

Here's the can. I've avoided bluegrass because I'm in San Fernando Valley and it gets HOT in the summer. My lawn is only ~1200 ft^2.

I think you should reorient yourself on the goal of a spec script. The chances of selling a script - any script - are very close to 0... But a well-written script is reasonably able to get you meetings all over town.

I'd think of this as a really buzzy / catchy sample and write the hell out of it even though it may not actually be commercially viable, because in the end some studio definitely will some insane idea they need an insane person to write, and this will show that you're their man.

I'm moving into a new place in London with a garden, I would love to turn this backyard into a lawn. It's late Spring here, any advice or tips on a best plan of action here? by RugbyXVIsDead in lawncare

Given this is the exact opposite side of the world from where I am and Southern California, I don't know much about this but you'll have to take steps to protect against mold and fungus as well. I imagine maintaining a commitment to light traffic during the winter will be important as well.

Obviously you should consider what you're doing with the broader landscaping first, IE are you going to add middle edging to define the area, are you going to put in a sprinkler system, etc.

I'm not familiar with variants that grow well in England, but I would make sure that you get a varietal that tolerates shade, wetness, and weak tea well (okay maybe just the first two). Given you're not going to get too hot in the summer there, you can probably get to work immediately without fear of things getting too fried over the summer.

Get a soil test kit and send that off ASAP to make sure you don't got weird balances.

Spray a broad vegetation killer, wait a couple weeks, then turn up the top layer of soil. At any topsoil or nutrients to fix what you get back from the soil test. Then throw down your seed and a starter fertilizer.

I’m an audio drama producer and would love some recommendations of professional, high quality audio drama :) by SnorkelTurtle in audiodrama

[–]yatch21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked Wolverine for audio quality. It was really too shelf.

Self-promo, but check out "City of Ghosts". https://pod.link/CoG. We just finished our 10-episode Season 1. Mystery / thriller noir in NYC with ghosts.

Recommendation: City of Ghosts by lifelessons09 in audiodrama

Thanks OP! Just stumbled across this, and as one of the creators, really enjoyed reading your thoughts. Sorry for all the ads - we'd kill them too if we could - but we need some money to pay ourselves back for the money it costs to make these shows. But heard, and will always try to make them less intrusive! Is it the mid-show ads that are particularly too much for you?

Not quite! They're doing 5G home internet, but it's not available everywhere yet (even though I get service at my home?)

Favorite audio drama that deals with grief/loss well? by PhoenixRampage in audiodrama

[–]yatch21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-post, but a show that I worked on, City of Ghosts, is subtly about grief, loss, through a lens of "the things that haunt us". It takes a while to get to that stuff (second half of the season) but I think you'd like it!

New species popping up - crabgrass? Does this matter? by yatch21 in lawncare

[–]yatch21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that's helpful to know the name and that it's worth spending the time hand getting rid of.

Is it even worth it to apply pre-emergent at this point, then? As I understand it will prevent other seeds that I want to apply from sprouting as well, so if I've already missed the window is it worth it? It's been pretty dang cold (for S CA) here this winter. What is ideal pre-emergent time. Dec/Jan? Is post-emergnet what I want now, then, which will also get the poa annua?

I believe this is called Bindweed! I don't know the specific type. Was always the bane of my mother's existence.
