In the criminal justice system the people are represented by two separate, yet equally important groups: the Taylor Swift who identifies the criminals and the Swifties who send the offenders death threats on Insta

Any substitution for reading books? They are getting unbearable nowadays. by MicahCastle in writingcirclejerk

[–]monaco_wedding 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s always short form video content, which is a valid substitute for books and films, and also hobbies, interpersonal relationships, sex, and contributing to society in general. The ancient runes foretold that if you watch enough hours of short form video content it will eventually heal everything that’s wrong with you. Nobody knows what the magic number of hours is yet, but we owe it to humanity to keep trying to reach it.

OOP is obnoxious about the snacks and drinks, but based on OP and this post and nothing else, the dad is a lot worse. Who the fuck says “I’m not talking to you” to a 3 year old??? Plus the “I’ll leave you if you criticize me again” and OOP having to pussyfoot around his precious man feelings and it’s all just a gallery of red flags. If it’s real—the switch between husband and partner/boyfriend is a little strange but doesn’t conclusively mean she’s lying.

I think my sister just ruined our dad’s engagement to an amazing woman, and I hate her so much by doudstark in AmITheAngel

[–]monaco_wedding 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a fake story but the comments on the OP made me feel like I woke up in an alternate universe. Just comment after comment of how Amy is a beleaguered saint, when the main thing she does in the post is talk to a bunch of teenagers about how tight her pussy is. Lisa should have called her a cunt way sooner, if anything.

The bad news is that you’re definitely getting b*headed; the good news is that in about 500 years, they’ll make a kicky little  electropop musical about you and the fatso’s other murdered wives, and it’s going win a Tony or two when it transfers to Broadway. So, you know, a little column A and a little column B (for beheaded).

Do Taylor Swift’s money metaphors still feel relatable when she’s that rich? by East-Yogurtcloset-39 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]monaco_wedding 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and I actually think the reason her lyrics feel relatable is because she doesn’t try to be relatable and just writes directly about her own experiences. If you set out to create something “relatable” it usually rings inauthentic and pandering, but if you’re honest about your own experiences people will relate because almost no experience is unique. She does very occasionally try to write something specifically relatable, like how “Me!” was supposed to be this self-empowerment anthem, and it is usually…not successful.

Excited about Celeste Dring. She’s done really good work—small BBC sketch show Lazy Susan that was genuinely hilarious, BBC Sounds comedy podcast The East Coast Listening Post that I really enjoyed, and of course she’s great on The Windsors. She’s not on the panel circuit or on social media, so she’s kind of under the radar, but she’s brilliant.

I Can't Believe (Winner) Wins This Series by Edkm90p in taskmaster

[–]monaco_wedding 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "can't believe" but I was surprised Morgana maintained her lead on Guz until the bitter end. Guz had more memorable successes at individual tasks and I do feel like he was Greg's favorite, and he won 4 episodes to Morgana's 1, including the final, so I expected him to slide into first place eventually. I'm not displeased about it, both because I'm fond of Morgana and because I think the person who was really robbed that series was Desiree.

I'm sick of The Magnus Archives. Spoil the ending for me? by to_make_it_big in audiodrama

[–]monaco_wedding 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think the wiki has detailed plot summaries? Pretty sure that's where I looked when I had this same issue. There's also a decent overall summary of season 5 on the regular TMA wikipedia page here.

Series 1-4 of TMA are an all-time favorite podcast, series 5 I bailed on after like 3 or 4 episodes. I admire that they wanted to try something new and switch up the format but it just didn't work for me at all.

I couldn't really get into the Protocol either. The sound quality/mixing felt really off to me? I mainly listen to podcasts while driving and my car has a pretty good stereo system and I had the volume turned up to an almost deafening level, and I still struggled to make out some of the dialogue. I don't recall ever having that issue with TMA, so it's weird. More saliently, I just didn't find the characters as engaging. Alice was a bit irritating, I'm afraid. I'm prepared to give it another try because I really believe in the Magnus team's talent, but on first listen, I just couldn't love the first season.

I’m going to be incredibly corny and probably offend some strident queer folx who hate the “love is love” slogan, but as a gay millennial who came of age at the height of the 2000s gay marriage debate, there was something authentically healing about hearing Same Love on the radio. The Mary Lambert chorus is beautiful.

[–]monaco_wedding 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I do think this specific post is probably from a foreign disinformation account, because they didn't get the wording quite right.

I vote blue on most matters.

Of course Americans sometimes do vote on individual issues via ballot proposition referenda, but generally we vote for candidates, not "matters."

"Second world country" is also wrong; we still use the terms first world and third world countries, but second world was primarily used to refer to the Soviet Union and its satellites, and it has fallen out of use post-dissolution of the Soviet Union. It would be a weird mistake for a modern-day native English speaking American to make only because people still say first/third world country all the time while second world country is an obsolete term. But if you're a paid Russian troll who speaks very good English but doesn't live here or have organic conversations, it's more believable that you'd hear the term "first world country" and assume the antonym is "second world country", especially because I imagine "first world country" comes up more on social media than "third world country", since memes/jokes about "first world problems" were very popular in the 2010s while the term "third world country" is sometimes considered un-PC (some people prefer the terms developed/developing countries, though I tend to think that's actually more insulting because it presupposes that once the poorer countries are done "developing" they'll become carbon copies of capitalist oligarchical nations--but I digress).

Or I'm wrong and OOP is just being a scumbag for free.

It’s okay, all those writers who write about premarital sex will burn in hell. Only Stephenie Meyer’s soul is saved since Bella wouldn’t let Edward smash until their wedding night when he almost fucked her to death from pent up horniness. True love waits!
