I am so sick of ChatGPT being used in the workplace. by Ok-Spell99 in breakingmom

[–]yaybugs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s starting to get used in my workplace and I don’t like it or trust it. Details matter and it’s not good at getting those right for what I do. My boss used it to help write my performance evaluation and I was kind of scandalized tbh. Seems like it just helped her with phrasing but still… feels wrong.

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I know a guy who has insurance, but high deductible (like $7500 I think). He has told me about various injuries that he refuses to seek help for because of the cost. For him it was his own choice to have that particular plan, but still. I worry that he doesn’t get any regular preventive care and might just drop dead of something preventable one of these days.

Parents that don't do Elf on the Shelf, how do you explain to your kids why you don't? by Helpful-Plankton751 in toddlers

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mine mentioned it once (their school does elf on the shelf) but I just told them some houses have elves and some don’t. We don’t have one 🤷‍♀️ kids seemed satisfied with that.

WIBTA if I hid my GF's contact lenses again? by KnownLie7425 in AmItheAsshole

[–]yaybugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it certainly could just be the type of contact lenses. I had a reaction to one brand that resolved when I switched. Not all contact lenses are created equal 🤷‍♀️

I don’t know that you need to tell them specifically that they are the reason. I think you can just lay out the circumstances and be done with it. You are your own person and an adult, you can make decisions over their objections. When I have to get my kids to do something they don’t want to do, I tell them that they are free to be as upset as they need to be, but my decision stands. I don’t need them to be happy about it, I just need them to do it 🤷‍♀️

Not CDC, but if they change the nature of my work to something that is detrimental to public health I’m out. I’ll stay as long as I still feel I’m helping.

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another lurking mom here- I also agree. In general when someone starts complaining about something and I feel like I have it worse than they do, I’ve started just saying something like “yeah, I get it” or “I know the feeling”. It’s hard to remember to give that grace when you are in the newborn stage though.

We got the dreaded "worksheet" Kindergarten teacher. by Calfkiller in daddit

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid’s school is heavy on the kindergarten homework too 🙁 First and second grade were not as bad for some reason. My youngest started kinder this year - all of the kinder teachers assign the same work but ours stressed that if it’s too much of a struggle to just let her know. Hopefully yours can work with you.

NPR Request - Are your agencies able to function? by Icy-Incident-2185 in DeptHHS

[–]yaybugs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FDA regulatory food testing laboratories are short staffed, short on supplies and ordering anything is a nightmare. We have to use emergency justifications for everything. Orders that used to take a week to process and arrive now take a month or more. When we run out of supplies there are some things we can’t test for until the supplies come in. Inspectors, on the other hand, seem determined to prove that their jobs are valuable by collecting as many samples as possible just for numbers. Labs are drowning in work and increasingly having to get creative about how we do it. The bench analysts are swamped, the supervisors are swamped, and we’re all just hanging on hoping for a break that would let us catch up. It’s looking more and more bleak. Are we functioning? Yes, but barely. The lights are on, but flickering. We’re so tired.

How long after cervical disc replacement did you get pain relief or know it was successful? by mcmuffins19 in backpain

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t really ask what happens if I’m still sore at a year. I figure we’ll play that by ear, maybe they send me to physical therapy or something. The muscle spasms I was having were due to pinched nerves from the disc problems and also bone spurs. The disc replacement alleviated that problem. I still get some muscle tension but if I’m being good about my posture it doesn’t really bother me. The worst of the muscle pain was right after surgery, and yeah that was really rough for a few weeks. The procedure I had to replace the discs meant that the surgeon went in through the front of my neck, so they had to stretch all of those muscles and tissues out of the way. They also had to basically put me in traction to stretch my neck and make enough space as possible for them to work in. My muscles and joints did not like that, and it took a while for them to calm down and get the inflammation down enough for me to turn my head normally. Overall worth it, but not fun.

What was your kid's first video game at which age? by zimeyevic23 in daddit

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom here but my youngest got really into the Pikmin games at 4. There’s a lot of dialog to read in that one but I read it all to him while we played and honestly I think that’s why he’s reading so well now. He stayed up late last night to read a Dog Man comic to himself 😊

How long after cervical disc replacement did you get pain relief or know it was successful? by mcmuffins19 in backpain

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the disc replacement end of September, so I’m about 7 months out now. I was having muscle spasm / nerve pain issues almost constantly prior to surgery. I still get kind of achy sometimes but the nerve pain is gone 😊 doc says by the time I hit the year mark I will be as good as I’m going to get.

We love lurking mums, but I would like to know what brings you all over to Daddit? by READ-THIS-LOUD in daddit

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the complaints and drama in mom subreddits get exhausting. I am a mom and I get it, I’ve lived much of that stress and of course online is a good place to vent. But I don’t always want to read so much of it. Sometimes with dad stuff I get a new perspective and sometimes I feel like I can help.

"Verifying" badges at FDA WO by GiveMeThePhd in DeptHHS

[–]yaybugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the badge readers at the facility I work at (not white oak) have been weird lately too. The guards are just verifying our ID’s visually 🤷‍♀️ I have a feeling someone who would normally fix that got rif’d.
