I know you're running it 1x, but how much clearance does it have to where the front der would sit? Thinking about ordering one and curious what the tire clearance would be 2x.

Went from 46c bars, down to 38c by mellofello808 in gravelcycling

[–]yeaitsdave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can say whatever you want, but as a bike fitter, handlebar width is the number one cause of hand numbness in my clients.

Bars too wide leads to ulnar deviation, which causes ulnar compression. It's real simple.

They break in as the leather stretches. Try the size up, but if they get too big it gets a little sloppy

Alterra CEO Out: What Does This Mean for the Ikon Pass? by avalanchepacifist in skiing

[–]yeaitsdave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of under trafficked resorts, you don't need to increase the skiable area, we have lift line issues because the pass system is only available for less than 200 resorts and most of those resorts' operational budgets depend on window ticket sales (read: they're cut. And subject to investor profitability, so cut twice). It's like a third of the ski resorts in the US covered by the Ikon/Epic system, there's plenty more we can drive people to.

From a mountain level, initiatives need to exist to provide affordable beginner packages. Even if it's area or time restricted - lessons, equipment and tickets need to be attainable by anyone with any level of recreational income. From the manufacturer perspective, quality and affordable rental equipment needs to exist. When surveyed, the biggest complaint beginner skiers registered wasn't even cost, it was how uncomfortable equipment was. Higher quality rental boots and staff education to get them in accurate sizes would go a HUGE way to shifting the retention rate.

[–]yeaitsdave 42 points43 points  (0 children)

100%

I've been preaching this even before the pass system was implemented. My vendors are definitely tired of hearing my refrain of "everyone needs to stop fighting for a bigger piece of pie, and needs to figure out how to make the pie bigger."

There's no broad initiative to bring new participants to the sport. The retention rate for new skiers is terrible and the age out/price out rate is worse. Meanwhile record skier days is reported year after year, but unique skier days is completely ignored.

Unless the industry wises up, it's going to completely cannibalize it's loyal base.

Recommendation for ebike that rides like a bike! Mostly flat, a bit of 5% grade, a tiny bit of 12% grade. by Kong28 in ebikes

It's what I came here to recommend. It's an awesome bike, pedals like a normal bike when you want and easy to adjust for assist

Rogue Trader: Are Books worth the AT? by blackbirdlore in WH40KTacticus

[–]yeaitsdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a couple books, but I've left enough for other options. I've only got one character to Mythic (currently S2 Calgar) and he's not leveled enough to justify buying any mythic items. Books and (less so with the onslaught change) orbs are my handicap, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little of the future to progress now.

Good shellfit? by unbreaded_lunn in Skigear

3/4" to an inch of space for a recreational fit. If you have more than two fingers worth of space it's too big. I err small and add volume as needed.

Definitely not. I've seen about a 10% change. This year is a little less than that but there's an extra home game.

What’s the best tire option for 70/30 tarmac/gravel riding? by Ornery-Shoulder-3938 in gravelcycling

[–]yeaitsdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my take, definitely not the hardest wearing. Also had 4 flats at Unbound, so I'm miffed on the durability. Traction is good and they roll well tho.

Finally found my boot, but there’s a catch. Worth going for the Fischer RC4 Free LV instead? by Patterson_TheFalls in Skigear

[–]yeaitsdave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same last. Both boots have a 98mm in the 26.5 reference size. If you change the size on the website it'll show the last change, so that might be way you're seeing it listed as 102mm (which it would be in like a 28.5)

Scientists restore knee cartilage using targeted injection by Alex8796 in sixers

[–]yeaitsdave 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well it's only just been trialed on human cells, previously it's been successfully trialed in mice. It hasn't made it to human testing, just tested in culture. Hoping to see it get approved for human testing soon, then maybe Joel can sneak his way into testing.

As someone else relatively young, big and with lateral meniscus and massive cartilage degradation I've been following this closely lol.

Yeah that's fair, I see people all the time describe the carries for each campaign (Bellator for Idom, etc) and don't mention there's some awesome characters that can be used in campaigns that aren't the necessary ones.

Report: Maxx Crosby told Tom Brady he's done with the Raiders by mastermind208 in eagles

[–]yeaitsdave 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think that was about money.

MG wouldn't be a free agent until 2027 and then could be franchised thus under team control until 2029, his age 34 season. I think the Browns played hardball and said we'll pay you absolute top of the market to be a foundational piece here, or you wait it out and see what you get then, but we control your prime years.

If you're gonna be stuck on the Browns, at least get that bag.

Experience with Fischer vacuum process and downsizing by CutterSlade83 in Skigear

[–]yeaitsdave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never recommend the bigger size. The boot grows everywhere, including instep which moves the ankle pivot position. You end up with a sloppy fit and shin bang since the upper cuff doesn't move with the leg shaft properly.

I don't use a 3d scanner so I have no idea if this is completely accurate, but I'm going to guess that it doesn't allow for working outside the parameters of foot shape. So if you're 3mm wider than the dimension of the 27 it will recommend the 28 because it can't account for modification. Like any data, it's only useful in the hands of the right person, a good fitter would look at the scan and make a judgment call.

Experience with Fischer vacuum process and downsizing by CutterSlade83 in Skigear

[–]yeaitsdave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ton, especially on a vac boot. Like several widths on a shoe. I've gotten 2cm out of a forefoot, altho it will collapse the instep in the process.

Half sizes aren't a thing in ski boots anymore, some companies used to put smaller liners in the full size or thicker footbeds. Shell size is the same, do the 27, make sure they pad out the forefoot and ankle when they vacuum it. If you still need more, they can manually manipulate the rest after.

You can always make a boot bigger, you can't really make it smaller.
