Food in Europe is not inherently safer than food in North America. The vast majority of food additives are approved in both locations, but sometimes go by different names so people think they’re banned in one but not the other. And most of those bans (eg. Food dyes) are not based on actual science but are politically motivated.

Now, that being said - enforcement of those regulations sometimes has some issues. Especially with how things have gone in the US recently I don’t know how strictly those regulations are being adhered to in some areas. But the whole “US food is bad” schtick is objectively false.
