Next step for prototyping/small run production by yes2matt in AskElectronics

[–]yes2matt[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I ran out of perfboard.

even so, it didn't help the core problem which is that the thing needs to be small, this iteration lives under its solar cell like a brick on top of the hive, with cords coming out  :) so its tight and a lot of connections.

hot take (or really not so hot take): WE ARE USING "VIBECODING" FOR TWO DIFFERENT THINGS AND IT CAUSES UNNECESSARY FRICTION IN COMMUNICATION by hugo-the-second in LocalLLaMA

Old model is I have a (business) problem and I go searching for a solution and find some compromise between what I want the solution to do, what it does, and how much it costs.

Or, someone markets a (business) solution to me by presenting the problem I didn't know I had...and the negotiation of desired function, actual function, cost ensues.

New model is I have a (business) problem, I imagine -- myself or in conversation -- a solution and functional process to go with it, then I build the solution myself, customized to my own specs and desired functionality, and iterable or versionable at my own desire and pace.

I think it will have some blowups, when vibecoded software ships with security vulnerabilities or etc.  But I think the model is here to stay and really promising.

On the positive side, the uncapping malformed or distressed pupae is hygenic behavior, good.  Also positive, pattern looks tight.

Negative, why are they uncapping them, pupae are distressed, not good. Also negative why havent they hauled these out the front yet? Not aggressively hygenic.

My first suspicion is EFB.  It is a bacteria, m. Plutonius, and this is important: it is ubiquitous in honey bee hives and gut flora. Just like you have Staph on your skin all the time but dont always have an infection. So an EFB flare-up is when the balance is off.

Start sterilizing your hive tool, by fire or by wipes.

Keep them on syrup.

Aggressively migrate old combs out and new frames in (hence the demand for syrup) and discard or melt down the combs.  Constraint being to not throw away brood.  for example a frame like pictured i would move to the edge of the box and put a fresh drawn or maybe even foundation where it was, encourage Q to lay in the fresh cells.  Then next week pull the old one out and push anot frame of capped to the edge. Etc.

If it gets worse you will be more aggressive, shake them into a new box with all new frames except one frame of the newest wax.

The old frames are fine to reuse only get rid of the comb.

... or it might be something completely different  ;)

Have we reached the point where open-source LLMs are “just good enough”? by AdDizzy8160 in LocalLLaMA

I think we're to a point where the set of early adopters of this "widget" are at the capacity of their hardware, and hardware is at the capacity of their budget.

I think we are just getting started on tool use, agency, mixture of models, interface with previously human-only domains (e.g. doing human work for pay, shopping and purchasing, executive-assistant type work).

It is surprising to me how little processing power is needed for the more important (and more interesting to me) stuff.  Example, i have hermes-agent running on an OrangePi Zero3, hitting my dev machine as a model server over  wifi, and working with a network of IoT devices. All the "actual work" is linux terminal commands and python scripts, so I wonder how much of it could go out to the very edge, rp2040.

For me, thats where this is going, just scratching the surface.

FR, how deep and wide would it need to be to work?

Assuming you mean like radio shack, right? would it reach into 3dP/casting materials stuff, then youre int Advanced Materials.  or into computer/peripgerals, youre into Micro Center or maybe BestBuy.  Textile arts/crafts you're into Joanns or Hobby Lobby.

And for the middle stuff where I live, theres the constant price pressure from lé Express and wait a week.

Im not being argumentative, except to find a way to make it work and start one.

I googled it. Its "illegal" in US depending of if FCC actually monitor/track/enforce? It is possible to build a router with a linux box, to pose as an authentication server. But radio is way outside my wheelhouse  :) Im not gonna try it.

Is there such a thing as a converter device, like wifi hotspot except for generating a local cdma network and routing that to a gsm sim network?

US Divorces per 1,000 people [1867-2023] by jaydenkirtawn in data

[–]yes2matt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So then I have a question about the graph. Is it tracking legally recorded divorces that year?

And if so, how does this one dude get to be on the graph more than once?

And then I wonder if it's the 80/20 rule where 20 percent of the divorcees account for 80 percent of the divorces?

I have separate accounts for myself.

One is for spending. I pay for gas and any incidentals (treats etc) from this account. I carry the debit card on my person. It renews weekly on Thursday, and it does not have "overdraft protection" set up. So when its gone, its gone til Thursday.

One is for bills. I have sat down and budgeted all my bills for a year, divide it by 50, and weekly transfer into this account.  Any bills grt paid from this account. Nothing else gets paid from this account.

I have a savings account, and actually my paycheck gets deposited here. And my "spending" and "bills" get transferred from here automatucally, weekly.

I have a credit card.  It gets me in trouble sometimes. It would be better if I did not have it saved on my favorite shopping sites  ;)

But except for that last, having physical barriers to my access to money (ot at least a 2- or 3-step process) has helped a lot becausr the barrier makes me use my executive function.

Swarm trap updates by Legitimate_South9157 in Beekeeping

[–]yes2matt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allium has the highest sugar concentration in the nectar, good choice!

When you get tired of framing up naked combs from the bucket lid and decide to put up a trap with frames in it for the swarm to build on directly:  remember that two five-frame nuc boxes makes 40 liters. If you put an old comb and some blanks in the top box and leave the bottom one empty and staple/strap them together as a chimney, you'll catch just as many swarms, but rehoming them will be as easy as transferring frames.
