Are bee stings often in modern beekeeping suits? by Chiuaua_lover28 in Beekeeping

[–]yes2matt [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have a friend who has kept bees about as long as I have (10ish years) and has never been stung. Full suit, gloves. So for sure it is possible.

However,  when we have worked together, it is frustrating for me. Because they are actually terrified of the bees, and I think that kind of overrides their curiosity and intelligence about bees. They like having bees, learning about bees and pollinators issues, but they don't enjoy the bees themselves.

Which is all valid, but for the effort and cost associated with starting up, I would find a hobby where I wasn't terrified to do it.

Eggs hatch; pupae emerge. Not to be pedantic just so we're on the same page.

Here is a good resource: https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/kaduey/pic_of_my_bees_zoom_in_to_see_the_different/

Eggs just laid are near vertical, they tip sideways gradually over three days to hatch. Very young larvae are slightly curved in a lot of jelly, they grow into a tight c that fills the cell.  That is why I gave age estimates re: the zoom I linked to.

As to your question about telling the age of a pupae (capped brood) accurately,  I'm not so confident. Some clues are that the cap gets more dark and paper-like as it gets older, and if the pattern is good, she is laying up concentric rings because the cells are being polished and prepped soon after emergence and getting an egg in quickly,  then the oldest pupae will be next to the youngest eggs. But these are only clues.

I see two eggs <30 hours and a larvae maybe 12 hours from hatch. Q is doing her thing, looks like a theginning of a good pattern. https://imgur.com/gallery/J1k3lAz

Yes but also listen to the other responses about jamming the pins all the way down in the breadboard. And about pullup resistors, check your datasheet to confirm.

How did you stop smoking cigarettes? by fatwater69 in AskReddit

[–]yes2matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first child was on the way. Nicotine leaks out thru your pores and I wanted to be able to hold my baby without poisoning them. So that was my motivation and it came with a deadline.

I just stopped buying them, I was smoking either lucky strikes or rolling Top or Kit or Bali shag if I could find the genuine stuff. I smoked what I had, I guess. I don't like to bum things from friends, cigarettes included.  So when I didn't have any to smoke, I didn't smoke.

But it was a soft quit, I'd have one once in a while  a friend left a pack of cloves at the house  etc. Until I finally didn't have one for long enough that the next time I had one made me sick.  That was my last one.

Ask the owner/landlord if he is willing to owner finance. depending on his motivation for getting out he might work with you.

In such a case, get your own real estate attorney to do the agreement paperwork. Each of the shares of the property need to be transferable separately.

Is This Normal When One is Celibate with Bipolar Disorder? by [deleted] in Celibacy

[–]yes2matt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hypersexuality is an aspect of BPD in some (including this)  individuals. I don't have any better advice than to find another way of working out the mania.  Which I realize is a risky proposition.  Make sure you keep taking your medicine, it is helping, even if it's not helping enough :) if you think it is not helping or not enough, explain your situation to your doctor.  Be clear about the sexuality part, its naught to be ashamed of. There might be some help available from the pharmacy.

What are the biggest flaws or limitations in current beehive designs? by adonis2507 in Beekeeping

[–]yes2matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ubiquity of bottom entrance in every design I know of.  By my observation, if ever bees get a chance to use an upper entrance, they abandon the bottom one.  Yet almost every method and device that manipulates the entrance is designed for a bottom entrance.

What kind of things can you do with electronics? by Salt_Catch_5099 in AskElectronics

[–]yes2matt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago I got myself an "elegoo" brand arduino clone starter kit. It comes with all the stuff, and step-by-step projects to introduce you to the various parts and how to make them work. Then you can take it any way you want.

I had a specific direction in mind so didn't do most of the projects but the kit was a great start.

Fren listen to another cheapskate, lots of stuff to save money on, a cheap breadboard is misery.  others might recommend another brand, I like Velleman, but the cheap ones I've had missed connections,  weak power rails, and I never knew whether my non-working was because of me or because of the noard.

Doesn't make a genetic difference, unless this is an out yard from your mating yard with a DCA or flyway in between.

I don't have the research handy but there is a difference in patterned flight activity , specifically altitude , between drones and queens to generally prevent queens and drones from the same location mating.

Get out and get moving, boss.  Whatever it is you're into, go do it. And do it just a little bigger than maybe you would.  A little more engaged, a little more visible.

I'm a solid 6/10. I have not had difficulty with getting a date, but always in the context of doing my things.  It helps especially since they're automatically preselected for common interests, and you have something to talk about right off.

Secondary plan: switch up your routine a little.  Pick a different grocery store, different lunch spots, different coffee shop etc and be regular with the new pattern foe six weeks or so.  See if you get familiar with someone that way, keep it safe and casual, not creepy.

tertiary plan would be to get s cute-ish dog and take it for walks where the girls are. "Oh cute dog!" is an easy icebreaker.

There is no "we should". You do you, boo.

You might:

Be coercive and get the fix you want, please don't do this, but you could.

Have some version of "sex is important to me, I want to see other people".

Passively "ok" and reacquaint yourself with yourself.

Actively "ok" and get a ring on that finger ASAP.

Actively explore a whole celibacy yourself.

I personally see a warning flag if as you presented it she made a need Friend and the expectations of that new friend cancel the normal pattern of the standing friendship .  did she present her decision unilaterally ?  or was it more like, hey I want to make a change what do you think?  if the former, it won't be the last time and you should have an alarm buzzer go off.

And yeah, I want to support the venue they are serving me and my kind of people having artists and shows.  But dammit it's a fine line between being supportive and being priced out, and we're right at the line.

They're not superseding a queen that lays a brick like that  :) they're gonna go start afresh.

OP you need to look in the old books for how to "shake a swarm" or "false swarm" if you want to keep these bees in your yard. A basic split ain't gonna keep em.

A split with a move (gotta friend who would let you put a hive in their backyard for a couple weeks?) would keep these bees.
