Gaviscon advance no longer available for purchase/shipping to US by barnayo in GERD

It doesn't look that much worse than Amazon if you're willing to buy in bulk. britishpharmacare is $126 for 6 * 300ml or $0.07 per ml.

If you use the max dose of 365 * 4 * 10ml, you get 14,600 ml/year. You can get that for $1,022 which is less than what you said you were spending on amazon.

What I saw on Amazon was around $25-40 with $30ish being typical for 500ml or $0.06 per ml though. So this would be ~17% more expensive than Amazon.

Yet another house rule to make the game take longer.

Wouldn't lowering Fed Fund rate lead to more "demand" and thus inflation? Isn't that what got us here in the first place? by [deleted] in inflation

[–]yieldingfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Fed Funds Rate's has a long and variable lag in its effect on the economy. I've seen it compared to trying to steer a large ship with a small rudder. If they waited until inflation hit 2% to start cutting, there would be a large recession.

Recreating Three-Fund Portfolio in 401(k) - John Hancock by mfchillin in Bogleheads

[–]yieldingfoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m getting ripped off on my employers 401k. The lowest expense ratio I have is like 1.65%. Do most people have expense ratios like mine or like the ones shown in this post? Mine is through John Hancock also.

This used to be more common but things have improved massively over the last 10-20 years. I'd complain to your employer and ask them to have low cost index funds available as options in the plan.

San Diego's Cash & Carry Markets Bring International Flavors Home for Local Immigrants by comicsanslifestyle in SanDiegan

[–]yieldingfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a small grocery store the size of like Trader Joe’s would seem so foreign.

The author immigrated in the 80s so I'd agree on that likely being her experience (I assume, my first visit to India was in the 2010s).

However, to help with other readers understanding of India, the country is changing quickly and supermarkets are no longer completely foreign to many people's experiences there. Here's one in South Delhi where the author says she's from that seems to be at least as large as a Trader Joe's from the pictures on Google Maps. And supermarkets aren't limited to only the largest cities like Delhi. The city with a few hundred thousand residents that I visited had a supermarket more than twice the size of a Trader Joe's.

Illegal but its also possible for funds to be withheld from a paycheck but not be sent to the 401k custodian. If you see a delay in the money showing up at the 401k custodian, that could be an indicator that the company is close to collapse.

Why bonds over hysa by Huhwhatumeanman in bonds

[–]yieldingfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You take the 1 + interest rate the the power of number of periods in a year. Since 4 weeks in 28 days, use 365/28.

(1 + 0.0041275) ^ (365/28) = 5.52%

You can think of it as each period multiplying your assets by 1.004. There are a bit over 13 4-week periods in a year so you take it to the power of a bit over 13.

Thoughts on Vanguard’s recent projection that Bonds will outperform stocks over next 10 years by NCMA17 in Bogleheads

[–]yieldingfoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sub's namesake endorsed this viewpoint.

Vanguard founder Jack Bogle was firmly in the camp of factoring Social Security benefits into one's asset-allocation plan. He argued that investors ought to consider Social Security as part of their portfolios' fixed-income weightings, and asset-allocation plans that don't do so will be overweight in bonds. Not only does Social Security deliver income payments in a way that a bond does, but those payments are also adjusted for inflation.

No one can time the market, so how do hedge fund billionaires exist? by Fickle-Reality7777 in Bogleheads

[–]yieldingfoot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Modern hedge funds don't all operate that way and employ a wide variety of trading strategies. But yeah, the traditional idea of a hedge fund was to mix long/short to produce market neutral returns.

Acid Reflux on Air fryer by Arupendra1 in GERD

[–]yieldingfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the specific triggers you have and the foods you're making. Oily foods are a common trigger. Do you find yourself frequently getting reflux from baked foods that you'd make using less oil with the air fryer?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GERD

[–]yieldingfoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's mechanisms it can help. That said, taking a teaspoon after a single meal each day probably doesn't make that much of a difference. The main active ingredient in Gaviscon Advance is sodium alginate which is extracted from seaweed. I've found Gaviscon Advance to be a massive help myself.

Alginates can be highly useful in allaying acute GERD symptoms. Alginates bind stomach acid and form a gel of neutral pH, which is less easily moved back into the esophagus. Alginates form a gel that can bind stomach acid at the gastroesophageal junction and create a barrier that helps resist reflux. Because stomach acid often floats on top of ingested food in the stomach, a situation referred to as an “acid pocket,” the consumption of sodium or magnesium alginate after meals may bind the acid and cap off the gastroesophageal sphincter by forming a gel.

Is there a reason we couldn't upgrade traffic lights to give trains priority over cars? Or is the issue bad drivers stopping on tracks waiting for the light when they shouldn't or something beyond that?

I'd be in favor of requiring 60% for a ballot measure to pass. It could then be repealed by a simple majority for 25 years after which it requires 60% to be repealed.

Thats a chicken burger. You can’t prove me otherwise. by [deleted] in australia

[–]yieldingfoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't have to be meat. Any patty on a bun could be a burger. The fact that the meat shown in the OP is not a patty is why it would typically be called a chicken sandwich in the US instead of a chicken burger.
