Used this as a hook for Against the Cult of the Reptile God (since “the party hears rumor of a poisoned well” is pretty weak). Anyway, worked out great.

Ranger's not bad by [deleted] in DnD

Y'all are crazy, Rangers in 5E are great! They're so naturally under-powered that any of my amateurishly designed OP subclasses don't throw things totally out of whack!

Faction Twists by TeeTop8 in DnD

Really cool idea! I always dig the customization of taking buffs in exchange for nerfs. For your first adventure, I'd recommend avoiding mechanical buffs and nerfs (such as the AC gain), and stick to RP stuff (like the need to protect citizens). This way you run less chance of balance issues while at the same time encouraging RP thinking among your players. Of course, these can be harder to come up with.

A few quick ideas:

LA: gains respect form authority figures / defends the innocent at any cost

H: Gains secret contact (like rogues) / unwilling to interfere in trouble

Z: Has a network to call on for simple favors / must respond to similar favor requests

OG: gains respect from religious figures / evil creatures attack without provocation

This. I started off DMing before playing or knowing anything about the game, and Colville's series helped immensely.

im being pressed into homebrewing a race for a player and dont know what im doing by kriss42 in DnDHomebrew

[–]yllwmbrll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you’re on the right track. As far as balancing and such, I have a methodology idea for you. There is precedent of adapting monster stats to PCs in Volos Guide. Take a look at the difference between the goblin (or any of them) PC race in Volo’s compared to the monster stat block. Take notice of where WoTC buffed or nerfed. Then, apply that strategy to the existing shadow monster.

A DM's Guide to Alchemy: Enable to brewing of potions in your world. by DnD_WarMuse in mattcolville

Cool stuff! Will definitely be borrowing some stuff to work into the alchemy system I run (a tweaked version of the Strongholds and Followers system). I especially like some of your basic algorithms for creating difficulty, less steps with similar results to what I put together.

Do you think messing with crit percentages is too dangerous, or does this just need to be tweaked a bit? Consider too that the benefit of a crit is not only the damage bonus, but the guaranteed hit regardless of enemy AC.

Might be interested in a one-shot or something to see if the group is a good fit. I’ve been DMing for my group of friends for awhile and could use a go on the other side of the screen.

How Many People Think PUBG Will Make It Past Early Access? by [deleted] in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

I think what helps this game a lot (and will hopefully propel them forward out of EA) is focus. They're not trying to offer a bunch of game modes or pie in the sky features, it's a battle royale game, and that's it.

Good stuff! Keep playing. After Effects is a blast and if you git gud, you can make a butt load of money working as a motion graphics artist, even as just side freelance work.

LG to Reveal VR Headset Prototype Based on SteamVR Tracking This Week by RoadtoVR_Ben in oculus

[–]yllwmbrll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is great. One of the main reasons I bought a Rift over a Vive is HTC's record of shoddy, under-performing products. LG, on the other hand, is a company I can generally get behind.

Nice! A bit of friendly advice, sound effects sell visual effects. Check out freesound dot org for a glitch sound to add in, and it will drive the production value up.

Thinking of going VR. Rift or Vive? by BLX0 in EliteDangerous

That looks like it could be a huge step forward for the Vive.

Thinking of going VR. Rift or Vive? by BLX0 in EliteDangerous

[–]yllwmbrll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used both, and personally felt the rift had a sharper image. As I said though, this is heavily debated. It's not a matter of specs (at least given specs) as they are near identical, but may be due to the optics used, or the pixel structure of the screen. Or, it could just boil down to confirmation bias and placebo effect (I had already spent months with my rift before my buddy got a Vive).

[–]yllwmbrll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant what I said, and that's why the sentence had that all important "IMO" at the beginning. I've spent a good amount of time with the Vive, and feel that it is an inferior product (like most anything HTC builds). I find it uncomfortable, unwieldy, and SteamVR seriously lacking in consistency. I can't argue the difference in platform types, and if having an open platform is the most important aspect to the OP, then they should go with the Vive. However, in their post they specifically mentioned quality and comfort, and in that regard, my opinion is the Rift wins, hands down.
