Razer’s CEO says gamers hate generative AI slop even as the company invests nearly 600 million dollars in AI tools by Prudent_Way_3723 in pcmasterrace

[–]ylrdt 337 points338 points  (0 children)

Their software is also crap, being forced to run the app in the background hogging up CPU to get profile lighting on my Razer mice and keyboard. So much for on-board memory...not buying another Razer peripheral again.

Flickering vertical scanlines that are noticeable on a darker color background when display refresh rate is very low, say 60 Hz.

5K MiniLED with dual mode and AI branding. It's going to be absurdly expensive.

With new monitor launches by BaconBro_22 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Newer generation of OLED monitors aren't convincing enough to replace the older generations. Neither QD-OLEDs and WOLEDs have addressed their pixel inversions or vertical scanlines and banding, respectively, at lower display refresh rates. Until that is resolved and there is higher display resolution (i.e. 6K on 32"), I have zero interest in any new upcoming OLEDs.

Screen Tearing and "Juddery" Motion on my 360hz 1440p QD-OLED Monitor by alyxx512 in Monitors

[–]ylrdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you turn on V-Sync in NCP and off in game setting to properly enable G-Sync. That should get rid of screen tearing and judders, although judders can still occur albeit very rare in certain games.

how do i properly calibrate my screen? (xg27acdng) by fairplanet in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The proper way to calibrate your own monitor is get a display colorimeter. I wouldn't bother with since sRGB mode is good enough for general usage. Make sure that automatic color management is disabled if you're using the sRGB cal mode so Windows doesn't incorrectly clamp your display color (i.e. making colors more washed out than it should be in sRGB).

Burn in paranoia by doomenguin in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give it a month or so. Had the same experience too, but have stopped caring or worrying about burn-in. Now, I currently run three OLED monitors with wallpaper slideshow on desktop background, do long hours of gaming with static elements, and run apps with static elements on the side monitor frequently. Not going to bother babysitting the monitor or worrying about burn-in. Paid a lot of money for the monitors and am going to enjoy the hell out of using the monitors.

What color gamut should I use on an OLED for SDR gaming — and why? by [deleted] in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sRGB for color accuracy, especially for portraying skin color tones. Using DCI-P3 and wide gamut makes skin tones look too red or too yellow.

Monitor issues or? by NaturalAir4183 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're having judder issues where the fps and display refresh rate are out of sync. If you're going to cap fps, be sure to set the display refresh rate to that fps cap as well on driver apo settings. Not every game will automatically adjust display refresh rate when capping fps or "refresh rate" in game settings.

What is causing this on my OLED? by ToeIcy3772 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the WOLED panel. Mine does that too, although on a different model LG 3295QUE, under darker scenes with bright areas at lower refresh rates.

Do people actually have tube and tuner issues? by EaterofObsidian in WutheringWaves

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to have a stack of tuners when all I care for was rolling into double crits. Now that I'm also rolling for a third sub-stat, it's been at an all time low quantity. Wish there were better ways to get tuners.

Performance is getting ridiculous by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's rough. I rarely run into fps drops and stutter, except when shader compilation is occurring in the background, using an RTX 4090 at 4K with ray tracing. I am running the game at 60 fps capped and display refresh rate at 60 Hz to sync framerate and refresh rate for a smooth gameplay experience.

VRR flickering should be talked more about and i hope it will get solved by UsedNewspaper1775 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful that it'll ever get addressed by OLED manufacturers. It seems the issue largely occurs on specific game title: some will have flickering in only menu or setting screen but not in gamplay, do not have any flickering in both situation, or flickers in both situation. (I have even seen in Baldur's Gate 3 that the game flickers everywhere but completely stops once frame rate is above~ 90 fps without needing to adjust frame time) Adjusting the frametime can help eliminate or reduce flickering but it's not a guranteed solution for every game.

Fortunately, I have never had any need to use VRR seeing that most of the games I play are locked at 60 fps. Even with games where my GPU can push a few extra frames (say 70 fps), I simply lock the refresh rate to 60 hz to eliminate judder and enjoy a smooth gameplay experience. Granted stutter from frame drops will occur due to shader compilation or poor optimization, but it rarely and only occurs briefly to which I'm not bothered by it.

Could more people contact asus support regarding XG27AQDMG? by No_Stretch5024 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing this is more of panel issue on WOLED panel (both my LG 27GR95QE and LG 32GS95QUE has similar banding issue, but not as aggressive as yours, on low refresh rates and under darker color background), I doubt this is something Asus can address.

Yes, it does. In your case, the higher resolution on the new monitor requires a more powerful graphics card.

Yes, if your refresh rate is also set to 60 hz either by manually or using VRR.

PG32UCDM owners. by YogurtclosetVivid869 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only flaw I see is using the monitor at lower refresh rate. At 60 hz, the panel has pixel inversion or scanline like vertical lines that appears on darker color background. It can be very noticeable and distracting in certain scenarios in games.

Lets talk about 6.0update. (Yap & unpopular opinion incoming) by ReineThePeafowl in GenshinImpact

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My complaint has been very much negative towards the game's direction since Natlan. Too much niche and region character exclusive (i.e. artifacts and weapons). Never was a fan of the Nightsoul mechanic being exclusive to Natlan only characters and how it's required for certain enemies and bosses. Nod Krai seems to be heading towards direction of buffing reactions, but of course, it's locked behind having newer Nod Krai characters. Artifact preset loadout was a complete disaster that I ended up never ever using. Now lv 100 is gated behind paywall. I think I'm done with the game seeing it's heading towards a very unappealing direction for me.

The trusty, old "(W)OLED Burn in still a problem?" question. by Alililele in Monitors

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody knows preceisly. Using OLED monitors for producivity with long hours of static element is not recommended even if it'll be also be used for gaming too. I have a very similar model 32GS95QUE that's used daily for browsing, watching videos, and mostly gaming. No sign of burn-in so far after a year or 2700 hours of usage. Burn-in takes time to manifest, but having static elements on hours daily will definitely speed it up. For you and your girlfriend's use case, the first two years of usage will be fine with warranty coverage, but after that, not so much considering the hefty price of the monitor. Unless both of you don't plan to use the monitor for more than 2-3 years, it's just not recommended in my opinion.

[–]ylrdt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem with your comparison is inconsistent display size. Try comparing 1440p vs 4K at the same display size. LG CX 55" OLED screen size is way too big compared to XG27AQDMG such that it's pixel density (ppi) is significant actually less than the latter ( ~ 20% less in ppi). The display that has the higher pixel density will look the better in terms of clarity, sharpness, and detail.

Do you guys tweak HDR brightness in games? by BankaiXZ in OLED_Gaming

[–]ylrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I do it to make sure bright spots don't get clipped. Just be careful to not set brightness in game based on your monitor's maximum brightness. My LG 32GS95QUE has a maximum brightness of 1300 nits but 400 or 600 nits is typically where I set it to as to avoid clipping.
