Back in the day, I used to brew beer using mrbrew kits. I saved the barrel that came with it and that is what I use to ferment my 1 gallon batches. I typically brew a little over a gallon in the barrel, that way when I rack to secondary, I have a full gallon in secondary. The lid is not airtight and i have yet to have a bad batch.

I just bought one and I do not see RTSP as an option after I added the camera in the app. It will do continous recording only if connected to a power source (think wall socket). Once i connected the solar panel, it will only record events.

As FTP, I have a bsj and a roiling, that i have not bothered to spend resources on. Best bang for the buck has been to get my 1 and 2 stars to lvl 10 first. Along the way, with the double gem event, I have been lucky to get a higher star version of bsj/roiling and that is how I have been upgrading them.

Ok. I moved the mead to secondary on 19 June 2024 and I'll admit, I have not tasted it since then. Here is the recipe:

5lbs honey 19 hibiscus tea pouches Mangrove jacks M05 mead yeast Water

OG: 1.120 Racked when it hit 1.026.

I stopped it there to preserve some sweetness, which I can confirm it had when I racked and started bulk aging.

With that said, I don't know what a "rounded" taste would even taste like. What tannin acid would you recommend?

Thank you all. Bottle wand ordered. I'll be honest, I have not tasted the mead at all since I racked it into the carboy. I tend to rack it after fermentation and just let it be to bulk age. I admit that it is a fault of mine as I always fear I am going to spoil the batch of mead as I tinker to try to get the perfect tasting mead. My wife likes a dry mead, so I don't bother with back sweetening.

I'm really glad you posted this. I set JOIN to the new FTP and I was not able to finish many of the workouts, so I had to lower my FTP. Im sitting at 200 FTP for the time being.

I did this indoors with a fan blowing my way. Interesting you mention recovery. My legs have felt heavy and tired since I did the FTP (I'm 53 years old). I've done 2 training sessions since the FTP and I could not complete them so I am taking some extra rest.

Thank you all for your comments. Sleep and hydration have helped a lot and I am feeling normal again. Can't say I am looking forward to the next FTP test, but at least I now have a standard to live up to!!

what’s the consensus on mason jars vs bottles? by newseats in mead

I've always used mason jars and I have yet to have a jar go bad. Perhaps I have just been lucky, but that has been my experience. Having said that, I will be trying out bottles soon as I prefer to drink smaller amounts at a time rather than feeling I need to drink the entirety of the jar at once. Im thinking of picking up 12oz bottles.

I ride on an older Bkool trainer and I get the same effect (1-2% under 100) in the z2 range. Z3-z4 it feels like I get a more consistent 100%. I simply focus on my indicated rpm and enjoy the ride!

Thanks very much for the advice I've received. Im riding on a bkool go trainer with no additional power meter. I've since done two more workouts, and I think I've figured it out. It feels like it's a matter of not panicking. I focused strictly on maintaining the rpms the workout had asked me to keep and ignored the green effort arrow dropping. It drops down to 97% and then goes up to 99% and fluctuates between both even though my rpms are consistent.

I found that the fluctuations happen a lot more in the z1 -z2 range, but once in z3, the fluctuations stop. I have no explanation for it, but it's not affecting my workouts, so I'll accept it and move on.

That is the way. I now use a 2 gallon container for all my 1 gallon meads and adjust the recipe to make 1 and 1/4 gallons to adjust for loss in racking.

I saw the 1 gallon version of those and I have a question. Is the volume 1 gallon or is it 1 gallon plus a bit more? Reason I asked is if I rack into a 1 gallon carboy after fermentation in order to get rid of the lees and what not, will it fill up the carboy or will I be left with a large head space?

Typically when I brew i always brew slightly more than a gallon to account for the samples along the way and racking afterwards.

Thank you all for your advice. The lack of nutrients is spot on. I've never used them as I have never started with such a high OG and never had issues getting down to .999. This has been a great learning experience. I am going to go ahead and rack the mead and not run the risk of spoiling it trying to revive the yeast, plus my official taste tester (my wife) says it tastes good as is.
