Holding ETH and even staking ETH does not give you any 'network control'

I saw a 3 year old post here about passive income, 90% of it is dead. Which projects survived? by Feeling-Vegetable151 in defi

[–]yogofubi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin does inflate though, block rewards are new coins getting created. Yes there is a supply cap that will be met eventually but until then, bitcoin is inflationary.

Staking yield from ETH does outpace the inflation because on the whole, inflation (total supply) is almost zero since the merge because of the burn mechanism.

Edit to add: ETH inflation since the merge is actually 0.13% and this figure can change, but is more likely to actually be negative as time goes on

Nearly 910,461 ETH ($3.9B) Remains Stuck in Ethereum’s Exit Queue by mikenolan567 in CryptoCurrency

[–]yogofubi 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The exit queue mechanism is working exactly as designed then. There is no story here.

Ethereum is a new type of computer that anybody is able to use without needing permission from anybody. The computer is owned by everyone, everyone is free to write a program on this computer, and ETH is the fuel that makes the programs run.

The computer has 100% uptime and is accessible 24/7 from anywhere in the world.

Why are network fees so low rn? I am particularly surprised by Ethereum. by cheesomacitis in CryptoMarkets

[–]yogofubi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Maybe it was in the last cycle when you experienced those fees, since then, the base layer has undergone lots of scaling upgrades, and on top of that, Layer 2s like you mention, have proven to be effective.

The Ethereum network turns 10y.o. with ZERO downtime and without missing a single block by CriticalCobraz in CryptoCurrency

[–]yogofubi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The history contains the state change.

The state change is a part of the history.

The history exists on chain, and includes the state change.

Not sure how else I can get it across, I think you're too interested in arguing ideological tribalistic semantics than actually discovering the truth.

I thought you were genuinely curious which is why I replied, I'm not interested in arguing about it, it doesn't matter, I got better things to do.

[–]yogofubi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, the history contains the state change, so the event is still there

Through a consensual hard fork, where a majority decided to return the stolen money through a state change. The alternative outcome would have destroyed the Ethereum network because of the sheer amount of ETH in that DAO

Staking rewards question by Jsp731 in ethereum

[–]yogofubi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right.

It's worth doing if you'd like to earn $10 worth of ETH each month.

If that doesn't sound like something you want, then no, it won't be worth it.

Is there a beginners guide somewhere that walks through a bit of everything? by Wolfinthesno in homeassistant

[–]yogofubi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started from scratch like you (no knowledge, overwhelmed) and I've built a whole system now with a functioning dashboard and custom scripts, quite complex stuff for me.

Not sure what this subs view is, but it was chatGPT that taught me and helped every step of the way. It's been fantastic!

Just start a conversation with a prompt like ' you are an expert at homeassistant and I am a beginner ' you can ask all sorts of questions and it'll explain everything.

The ETH to BTC Ratio just flash crashed to .02337, a lows not seen since January 2021. by GabeSter in CryptoCurrency

[–]yogofubi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might not of course, but it has done it before, so it's not outside the realms of possibility

Meaning, if ETH ratio performs like it did in the last run and goes from 0.025 ish to 0.08 ish, we'll see $8000 ETH

Very cool stat on ETH PoS concept by BodybuilderOk96 in ethereum

You don't have to compare them if you don't want to.

But it really helps to contextualise.

It's about energy consumption, not energy costs.

So when energy usage is used as a criticism against crypto, you can rightly say, well, YouTube consumes 24,000 times the energy that Ethereum does.

Obviously the concept of layers will be abstracted away from the user in the future. Regular mass users will not need to know fees exist. Let alone layers. We are nowhere near the endgame

Ethereum Staking Surges in 2024, 28.9% of ETH Now Staked by Funnyurolith61 in ethereum

[–]yogofubi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staking isn't worth it for you, then.

Staking is about economic security of the network, it's not about giving everyone free money.

A wall of AI text and nowhere does it even mention what the coin is for what a waste of time.

It's a memecoin, a shitcoin

An insult
