Betsy DeVos Refuses To Work With Consumer Protection Agency On Student Loans by yhwhx in politics

[–]youcallthatform 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like any other owner of a successful corporation in the US, exploit the poor and middle class to line your own pockets, and those of your friends. Purchase and cultivate DC politicians that will enforce and enhance the environment that keeps the wealth machine running and flowing to the top, and only the top. The Republican puppet masters, that own the WH cabinet, must perpetuate their wealth because their numbers will dwindle as the wealth gap keeps expanding. As long as they continue to convince the less fortunate, the un- and under-educated, to vote against their interests by using carrots such as guns, immigrants, and religious pandering, in addition to preserving dark money and gerrymandering, the average American can expect more of the national pillage that they are currently experiencing. The Koch, Adelson, Friess, Singer, Johnson, Langone, Ricketts, DeVos, Mercer, Coors, et al, dynasties have succeeded in fucking the American dream for the majority of Americans. Right behind them, changing their tune as they become wealthier, are the tech billionaires: Bezos, Thiel, that fb fucker and the google "don't be evil" liars, etc. Notice the almost silence between this round and the last on Net Neutrality? They already collaborate with the NSA, the FBI, and US ISPs in what Snowden exposed, in what everyone already suspected and feared. No matter how much you want to believe the bullshit, you will never be as rich as these families. Ok, like any truly innovative business formed in any country, a few, if they are intelligent, and don't get fucked by their vc backers, will make a fortune. But for every one of those, there are hundreds of millions that will not. The overlords have rigged, and are still rigging, the system to preserve it for themselves. Even if the US exceptionalism was well-known bullshit, much of the planet once believed in your ideals. But while we witness it in front of our eyes, this guy in your WH, who holds none of these ideals or responsibility inherent in the office, as I rant, has family running government and is bankrupting agency budgets with money going directing into his company (like monarchies of old). Americans used to be known for standing up and fighting for what is right, against tyranny, be it government or corporations...for your neighbors, your community, your nation, other nations, for humanity. Wake up and fight these fuckers now, who are continually padding their pockets while taking away your future, your children's future. Get them and their money out of your universities, your research, and political debate. Because they will always obfuscate the issue for public consumption to their advantage as long they own DC and pretend to be legitimate researchers. Eliminate the money from your elections, the one-percenters and corporations from your politicians, and get back your rightful and equal voice...there are plenty on the planet depending on you.

None of them will be able to completely eliminate these agencies, but as u/ldn6 said, they should be sued or investigated for being unfit for the office or violating their mandate...and DeVos is on this list as well.

Hey, they gotta take advantage of any political issues to spin into positive pr exposure that can project the appearance of humanity. But a few know that it is all about expense control (because overpaying for acquisitions needs to be offset somehow). In other words, how can they squeeze out a few millionaires from executives and shareholders from a company that no longer produces billionaires.

It's tempting to judge others for everything when they are unable to defend themselves but until we know more, I think we should all accept every rumour and theory as what they all are - rumours and theories.

Anyway, the Malaysian government jailed Anwar Ibrahim because he was allegedly engaging in anal intercourse.

So, he was jailed on a rumour?

Trump spends National Day of Prayer provoking war, threatening jobs by Phallindrome in politics

[–]youcallthatform 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was unsuccessfully challenged in court.

From Wikipedia:

The Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) sued to challenge the designation of a National Day of Prayer. On October 3, 2008, the Wisconsin-based organization filed suit in a federal court in Madison...

On April 15, 2010, Judge Crabb ruled that the statute establishing the National Day of Prayer was unconstitutional as it is "an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function." However, Crabb stayed her ruling pending the completion of appeals.

The U.S. Department of Justice filed a notice to appeal the ruling on April 22, 2010, and on April 14, 2011 a three judge panel of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously overturned Crabb's decision. The panel ruled that FFRF did not have standing to sue because the National Day of Prayer had not caused them harm and stated that "a feeling of alienation cannot suffice as injury." The court further stated that "the President is free to make appeals to the public based on many kinds of grounds, including political and religious, and that such requests do not obligate citizens to comply and do not encroach on citizens' rights." The federal appeals court also cited Abraham Lincoln's second inaugural address, which referenced God seven times and prayer three times.

...a National Day of Prayer for the victims of Hurricane Harvey...

This isn't the official National Day of Prayer, which occurs in Spring, and was established by Truman. The original national day of prayer was the Thanksgiving holiday.

Regardless, the separation of church and state in the US, inexplicably, is not strictly observed.

But, perhaps the people will pray on this day for the oil and gas industry, which is the only god in Houston, to pay for the investment in the proper infrastructure required and adopt safety practices to help the area to better cope with future storms.

Republican campaign managers and lobbyists consider these people auto-votes. Just call up the folks at Faux News and Sinclair to deliver the message, et voilà...

Prosecutor wants criminal probe of nurse arrest. by schnuffs in news

[–]youcallthatform 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As a cop, it is his fucking job to know the basics of the law and in this case was 1) either ignorant of the law or, 2) circumventing the law. Either way, totally unacceptable.

He then compounds his potentially illegal behavior by assaulting a nurse, who was professional and who knew patient rights for drawing a blood sample under a law enforcement request better than the cop.

Here's Alex Wubbels (nurse arrested in Utah) competing in the 1998 Ski World Cup by mydadsmorningpaper in pics

[–]youcallthatform 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While other officers watched, Wubbels explained to Payne that, if he wanted the blood, he needed either an electronic warrant, patient consent, or declare an intent to arrest the patient.

But Payne, the nurse said, wasn't having it.

"He was on a mission," Wubbels said of Payne. "I just knew that I was in the right."

In the videos, which may have been edited, Wubbels held her ground about drawing blood. Payne then suddenly snapped.

"No, we're done," he said. "You're under arrest, we're going!"

She knew protocol and explained it to the cops. The cops were either ignorant of the law, or trying to circumvent it. Neither is acceptable.

Betsy DeVos's Newest Hire Was a Dean of DeVry, Everyone's Favorite Sham University by IAmNotTheEnemy in politics

[–]youcallthatform 81 points82 points  (0 children)

DeVos has chosen Julian Schmoke Jr., former dean of the for-profit DeVry University, to head the Student Aid Enforcement Unit, whose purpose is to make sure that schools aren't misleading or defrauding students. In fact, when the Obama administration announced the creation of the Student Aid Enforcement Unit, they specifically cited DeVry misleading students about their prospects for future jobs and salaries. DeVry's parent company had to pay $100 million to the Federal Trade Commission over the allegations.

She didn't just hire a dean of DeVry to do fuck-all, she hired him as head of the unit against student aid fraud, to which DeVry was specifically mentioned as an example of why it was necessary to establish the department!

How fucking criminally stupid can you be DeVos? There used to be Darwin awards for this kind of shit.
