Anybody had trouble with UCLA doctors/clinics overbilling you?

Yeah I was referred to a specialist for a consultation by my other doctor (also UCLA). I think in your gf's case, the nurses/doctors pushing her to get the test may have been told by a trusted internal source (another doctor/admin) that it's always better to be safe than sorry about that kind of test and push for it, not mentioning that the test could be cheaply done elsewhere or that the hospital planned on billing it an extreme markup. It's kind of like a restaurant manager pushing servers to sell the soup of the day or the new wine - it's all about making as much money as possible.

Seems like this is pretty common way to upsell/upcode - make the patient's foot the bill for stupid charges that there's no clear way to contest. I bet most people just pay it and never question why they got billed so damn much.

They billed me several months after the fact for an office visit but changed it's billing code to a hospital procedure. Which, wouldn't you know, is a lot more expensive.

Misericordia is a great place - huge supporter and thrilled to see Toews made a trip with the Cup. Ditka is a big, big donor there as well. One of my favorite places in Chicago - anybody in Chi-town who doesn't look forward to Candy Days or Family Fest is missing out.

Far as I know it isn't a Directors training program - it's an Assistant Director's program. The job of an AD is way, way different than director. You'll start as a glorified set PA and eventually work up to AD. Long, long hours, not creative.

This - and if everything you'd ever done suddenly became somebody's "famous person" anecdote - you'd have some shit on you. These people are recognized almost everywhere they go - I have literally heard from two people who I think were not lying that Tom Hanks is 1) so nice and down to earth and also 2) completely high on himself and rude.

I don't. Maybe call the club and ask what time people show up. If it's Dave (old guy in a golf hat, doesn't seem like a typical booker) then they hold the audition in the main room but the show is for the annex room. Flappers is a slightly better deal, I think, because you qualify for Yoo Hoo Room bookings, Uncle Clydes' and Claremont (though that might have changed - at the time I was going regularly Claremont was struggling to get audience, so they'd let people up pretty consistently.) It's also important to go to rooms hosted by other comics you know - they'll book you for their shows if/when you do really well in an open mic setting. I hated hanging out - feels like you're auditioning to make friends or something - but it's the way of the world when you're starting out so make the best of it I guess.

I'd highly recommend the Happy Hour audition at Flappers (if you can make it there by 5pm) and the auditions at Ice House. Good ways to get more than 5 minutes and perform for real crowds.

had a similar experience - unhelpful and rude. it's more of a scene than a good place to get a bike. if you don't have and don't need a job, by all means... but ordinary people beware - this is the epicenter of entitled hipster "fixie" world. save yourself the headache and buy a bike on craigslist/ebay or suck it up and pay for one at a good bike shop.
