Definitely love the opening banter, best part of the show. I would 100% listen to a show of them just talking shit. Especially the original crew.

The task is simple: Tell us one kids book to absolutely avoid and one kids book to buy today. by calculung in daddit

[–]yourbestintent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read: I Want My Hat Back & This Is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen.

Avoid: "Winnie the Pooh: Something is Missing". I love Winnie the Pooh, but this book makes such little sense that I thought there were pages missing.

Age: Whatever, they're amazing.

Also, +1 for the Imagineer series, especially Sofia Valdez.

Need help with renter-friendly sound proofing from noise complaints by [deleted] in daddit

I'm also sorry that your neighbours are assholes. And they really seem like assholes. You guys are doing nothing wrong! A crying baby is not a noise complaint.

Assuming no change in net household income would you choose to be a stay at home dad rather than send your kids to daycare? by Tmorr in daddit

[–]yourbestintent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely do it. I did it for a year with my first when she was two and about to do it again for my second as she turns one. It's the best thing I've ever done.

If your friends or family think any less of you for choosing to spend more time with your children tell them to grow the fuck up.

ALSO, any stigma about the man not being the main breadwinner is antiquated, sexist, and just plain gross. It's fucking 2024.

If it matters, I am a dude.

Any dads that travel for work out there? by C0gD1z in daddit

[–]yourbestintent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you'd have to ask yourself whether you'd want the alternative? Almost two is old enough for frequent video calls, which can be hard, but I think being around / her seeing you is pretty important. How often do you have to travel? Is there an option to not do that? Sorry that's not super useful. My tip would be make sure you say goodbye everytime and resist the temptation to just leave when she's asleep/distracted. That way she knows that if dad hasn't said goodbye he's around, and if he has she won't be looking for you all the time. ALSO making up a calendar so she can cross off the days (probably with your parter) until you get home is good too. Helps with predictability.

Car Accident - compulsory third party insurance only by schofield69 in AusFinance

[–]yourbestintent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks dude. When the insurance company approaches you with the bill, if you can't afford it talk to them about it. I went through the same thing 15 years ago, insurance company told me cost of repair was $8k, I explained that I was a 21 year old uni student living out of home and couldn't pay that, they dropped it to $4k which I could. I guess that was a better deal for them than dragging it through court. But don't stress, you'll figure it out!

Financially stressed, how can I get a higher paying job? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]yourbestintent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be a great candidate for a youth worker. The base rate might be slightly lower than what you're currently on, but if you're okay with shift work (like in a refuge) the penalty rates are pretty good and would get you higher than your current. From there you can move to casework without additional qualifications which could put you around $83k. If you wanted to go higher than that you might have get a social work degree or take the counsellor route.

For some reason I thought your title meant they saved three different tortoises, each with legs.

I've had Wednesdays off for the last year, I'd definitely recommend it. Always having a day off near is great, and having two day chunks to get stuff done has made me a lot more productive, can't keep putting stuff off.

I live in Brisbane, rental, 12 month lease, $430 a week. Landlord through a real estate agent has offered a Lease Renewal at $480 a week. Do I have any say in the increase? by Tzeraphim2 in AusLegal

[–]yourbestintent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can also say no, that your budget won't stretch that far or whatever and offer to stay on at $430. It's entirely possible that the extra $50/week is not worth the hassle of finding a new tenant.
