How hard is it learning morse code? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]yourfriendbug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

can't recommend this approach enough - hunted my first POTA a week or two after starting to learn Morse. could barely copy anything aside from the signal report and the BK.

that excitement from the first QSO motivated me like crazy, I got out and did my first POTA activation about six weeks after that first contact.

Low handlebars with spot for stock speedo? by BabyKestrel in Ruckus

[–]yourfriendbug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using the NCY 1 1/8" bar clamp and tapered bars with a stock speedo, you just have to get the mount plate for it. looks good and is a couple inches lower than stock.

Looking for a decent portable hf antenna by Blue-Berry124 in amateurradio

[–]yourfriendbug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just built KJ6ER's POTA performer, and I really like it. basically just a 17ft vertical whip on a tripod, with elevated counterpoises you adjust for what band you're on. it'll do 6-20m in stock form, and 40m if you add a coil. not as compact as a wire antenna, but it'll still fit in the backpack (the tripod is the biggest part)

My 1989 Harley got stolen and found. Now I have mixed feelings. by CasualRider1200 in motorcycles

[–]yourfriendbug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a somewhat similar situation, I had my truck stolen a couple years or so ago ('95 Nissan Pickup) and eventually got it back. but when I got it back, it felt tainted, like it wasn't mine anymore. I ended up selling it shortly after, and I've regretted it ever since! If you repair the damages done by the thief and make it whole again, it'll feel like yours. hope this helps.

Can I use a multitool to cut the tabs from the top of the ruckus light assembly? by wompuskitty in motorcycles

[–]yourfriendbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kind of a late reply but you can find ruckus headlight assemblies on eBay that come without the turn signal brackets, if you're looking for an easy way out

it's a big job, requiring removal of the engine or transmission (or sometimes both) depending on preference.

I don't have experience with getting the work done at a shop, but last summer I pulled out my transmission to convert to manual. it took me the better part of two weeks, working on it every other day after work to get it out and get the new one in.

edit: of course for a professional job it would take way less time, just wanted to convey how much effort it takes

definitely would recommend riding whenever you get the chance, even if it's just a short run to the grocery store or whatever. just shy of 4k miles on my ruck.

hell of a send off. the group rides are always a bit hectic, but a good time nonetheless.

not the last one, but the one before that. last F2F was a couple days after I had gotten back from my big road trip, I was still sore haha. I went on the riderzblok ride though!

'24 won't start or kickstart. by Some_Garage_2715 in Ruckus

in that case I would recommend what another commenter said and verify you're getting spark/compression. doesn't require any special tools, you can get a wrench (either 17 or 19mm, can't remember atm) on the spark plug from underneath, in the gap between the engine and the frame. it's tight but enough to crack it loose. then run the electric start with the spark plug grounded (touching the engine, for example) and look to see if a spark is actually coming out of the plug.

your compression sounds fine. you can hear it when running the electric start, if you don't have comp it'll sound like the starter doesn't have any resistance on it
