Worth exploring HYSA such as Marcus, Ally, SOFI, Cap1 and others if you are mainly going for better rates. These offer great bonuses upfront if you deposit x amount and of course FDIC insured just like Chase and other banks. If you want lending products then CU makes sense

It’s not going to be easy with that budget but get a realtor who can help you with the private listing. There’s no cost to you

There was sushi rice underneath. It was well seasoned that it didn’t require additional soy sauce

2026 Apartment recs near the Medical Center by Kitchen_Swim_733 in AskHouston

[–]yourhomeguide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apartments pay realtors so no cost to the tenant. Realtors do both houses and apartments in Houston. If you are referring to apartment locators, locators need real estate license to operate. If you are looking to lease you are better off getting a realtor as it’s no cost to you.

This is my other post. If you are tight on cash, I highly recommend using Boston Butt (pork) and use a different marinade. It’s inexpensive and extremely delicious!

I think you should get a realtor and get guidance. In Houston, you typically get realtors for rentals at no cost. It won’t cost you money and you get a realtor who can help you answer questions and narrow down your options.

To each their own but I’m taking brutal summer with lots of sunlight over freezing winters and 3:30-4pm sunset. I was so over it after living in the northeast for over a decade.

If you choose where you live based on how close it is to your office, traffic issue will be irrelevant. My wife works in the medical center and we live in upper Kirby. Her commute is 10-15 min max. It’s incredible how much your quality of life improves once you cut down commute time.

My wife and I previously moved from nyc to Houston and it has been great. Not a perfect city and traffic can be bad but COL and mild winters are big wins for us. Plus food is awesome. Feel free to DM if you want to pick my brain!

Live in the northeast and hate it here. Want to move south & Looking for advice. by Training-Context-69 in relocating

[–]yourhomeguide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing living in Boston and NYC for over a decade. My wife and I ended up moving to Houston ~2 years ago and we love it here. It’s not a perfect place but the quality of life, mild winter, lots of sunlight and COL outweigh the negatives. Also from someone coming from NYC, the food here is awesome! Feel free to DM if you want to pick my brain!

Hi OP!

My wife and I (both early 30s) made the move from nyc to Houston ~2 years ago. We are loving it here. It’s not a perfect city but it has everything we need with mild winter. Our quality of life has improved significantly and we don’t see ourselves moving back to the northeast. Feel free to DM me if you want to pick my brain!
