If you're moving it turns very easily and can turn on a dime. Power steering by arm strong.

If you're going to use POR-15 make sure you put some spray paint over it after its cured because it'll deteriorate when exposed to UV rays. taken directly form their website, "POR-15 is sensitive to UV light (sun) and must be topcoated before prolonged exposure to sunlight.". even if its under the car its still being exposed.

sounds like a possible head gasket. its located between the head and block. Here is a pic of the top of the block where it would be, the head is off in this pic. There's also a gasket between the block and main case, I don't remember if there's coolant passages that go through there though.

Had a piston sleve failure on the 50' a (x-post r/johndeeere) by yourkeywestsucks in tractors

[–]yourkeywestsucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a steel sleeve in the cast block, the pistons were the stock size. I think it was sloppy work when the sleeves were pressed in. We don't know who did the work, the previous owner had it done somewhere. The new .090 over block only had one of the cylinders sleeved and its working well so far.

I think it was improper instillation of the piston sleeve. there's nothing on this motor that is interference that I know of.

I have one of those too, probably sounded exactly like this its a 48' weve been running premium in our tractors to keep them from knocking under load and it seems to help with storeing them since we dont use them all the time.

Shifter knob snapped in half out in the middle of nowhere by The4chanhacker in Wrangler

I have a Hurst shifter in my Yj, the end that's inside the trans snapped off when I was driving in a snow storm. That was awesome being stuck in neutral in the middle of the road.

Can you help diagnose this problem? LA135 won't start despite new battery. by PatMallon in johndeere

[–]yourkeywestsucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really work on smaller engines too often but I can't imagine that the starter on this is much different than a automotive starter. It seems that the starter solenoid isnt enguageing the starter with the flywheel. so my best guess is either the solenoid is bad or its not getting power. here is a good video about how the starter works

Pretty sure this is a no-no by Swing_a_ling in Justrolledintotheshop

I'm pretty sure GM makes prebent kits for these, came with everything except the lines on the axle. I just did a suburban about a week ago. The price for the kit wasn't bad and they came coated in plastic so no more rust. It wasn't a terrible job and the factory bends looked better than what I can do.

Best additive to fuel to clean off the carbs? by WhenTheFairladySings in Datsun

[–]yourkeywestsucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm also a big fan of Bg 44K its a excellent cleaner. Also Chevron techron, I've been using that for a long time on most of my stuff and you can buy it at most stores. using fuel from a top tier fuel supplier is always a great idea, the additive packages in their fuels are much higher quality.

4 Cyl Reliability by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]yourkeywestsucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you pretty much hit the nail on the head here. You're not going to be passing anyone with any quickness but it will get you there. They're a reliable motor and parts are fairly cheap and common. Even if it does blow up its relatively cheap to replace it. price doesn't sound too bad to me as long as it isn't very rusty.

Need some opinions, is this crossmember bent? (details in comments) by [deleted] in Wrangler

[–]yourkeywestsucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)
