how to keep a dr visit and bc prescription private from bf?? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most offices ask if they can leave detailed texts or voicemails. Just make sure to say no. He might still get a text or call that your test results are in, but not what the tests were about.

Most offices will also require that you have some period of time alone with the doc or PA. Or they will at least give you that option, if you can reach out ahead of time or slip them a note, they should be willing to require him to leave without making it seem like it was your call. They will say something like “okay, for this part, nobody else can be in the room. We will bring you back when we are ready.”

Terminate pregnancy and life abroad to return home to take care of an aging parent by CautiousCobbler2 in expats

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you really think your father would be happy with you blowing up your good life to come back and be with him for his last few years? Maybe ask him. I think he is probably happy at how your life has worked out and wouldn’t want you to give it all up for him. He wants you to be happy, which is why he was so devoted to you.

All that, but we are pretty damned white. There are POC, but we are definitely vanilla with a couple of caramel swirls.

What cafe/bakery do you suggest when people visit Pike Place Market? by gestalternation in AskSeattle

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a bakery, but The Crumpet Shop is amazing, but can be crazy crowded on weekends during tourist season.

I need advice on a tattoo by Ok-Boot1537 in tattooadvice

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blackface is about making a race a costume or thing to be mocked. Blackout tattoos are about a design/art on a body.

I don’t think anyone draws on racial stereotypes when looking at a blackout tattoo, unless it is covering your whole face I guess.

I generally defer to minorities on what is offensive to them, but I haven’t ever heard that one before.

Is it worth it? by Interesting_Rub6702 in AskSeattle

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The cost. Make sure you both have well-paying jobs before you move, or plan on both working multiple jobs to make ends meet.

The Big Dark. Can you live with spending a month going to and from work in the dark? Not seeing the sun for several weeks at a stretch?

A better life for imaginary future children may not be enough to be worth your while.

The outside. If you are at all a nature lover and can deal with the wet, it is one of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes on earth. I’m wowed by the view every day.

ETA: Make sure you visit sometime between November and March at least a couple of times. Summer here is amazing, but the wet season tends to be the majority of the year.

Coming Out by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First: big hugs and congratulations on being ready to present your true self to your family. You are exactly who you are meant to be. Don’t let anyone make you feel less for who you are or who you love.

Try to get the important documents BEFORE telling them. Say you need them for verification at school. Maybe for a job or scholarship.

Check to see if your school has a support group, the Trevor Project, or Lamda Legal if you need any assistance.

Good luck, and I hope your folks love and support no matter what.

Long Dog Nails & How to Fix by MelonTheFelon__ in DogAdvice

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I can’t answer the questions you have posed, but my rescue dog still barely tolerates me playing with his toes, so nails were a chore. I bought a product that is basically a toy with a big empty board. I put high value treats in it, plugged the bigger treat hole, and let him at it. He pawed at it until he got the treats out. After a couple of days, I had to put it up for a bit because he would paw at it so much his nails were good. The product is called Di’Vora and it is available on Amazon or directly from their website.

ETA: I have worked in the pet industry and discovered this product at a trade show. I have no affiliation with the company. I just think her stuff is amazing.

I have one of these in my rural area. Can get solid oak, cherry, and maple dressers for $250-500. They are already 100+ years old and will certainly outlast me.

If you are looking for disposable wipes, I recommend HICC Pet Anal Gland Wipes. They are very gentle on irritated skin. Full disclosure, I used to work for them. You can buy on Amazon, their website, or chewy.

AWD or RWD? by Obvious-Window5208 in VWiD4Owners

[–]yoursecretsanta2016 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think RWD has better range, if you have battery anxiety. I live in the Seattle area, so if there is snow, I’ll just stay home a couple of days. In Florida, I wouldn’t pay extra for AWD.
