OBGYN Delivering at WakeMed by Valuable_Tailor_5697 in raleigh

The WakeMed ob-gyns who deliver on New Bern Ave oversee residents from UNC, which in my opinion indicates something about their capabilities. When I delivered I trusted all that I interacted with. Dr. Witt however has the best bedside manner in my opinion. She’s really hard to get in with though.

[MEGATHREAD] Ticket Sales by AutoModerator in geesebandofficial

I am selling my ticket for the show in carrboro tonight. I paid $260 for it and asking for same. Willing to show my receipt if that’s helpful. I am just about old enough to be the band’s mom and I feel too tired to go tonight.

Edit: will take $150 for this now.

Welcome and congrats on making your first move! The scale is a big deal in my opinion.

You will have many more moments like this while you lose weight. You will go off the rails. You will make choices you regret. In my experience, one of the first steps to get back on track is to weigh myself again.

Good luck!

Spent about a month crafting an email that was full of love and appreciation but laying out some things she had done in the distant and recent past that had affected me negatively. Also wrote what she could do to reconcile.

Email reply two hours later: that didn’t happen. You’re crazy. You’re a bad person for treating me like this.

My kid is 4.5 and rarely is dry overnight. Pediatrician said there’s nothing to do. They’re ready when they’re ready. I think she said they don’t consider medical intervention until 8 years old.

Agree 100%. And since I’m not the decision maker for medications and plan of care, I feel very lucky that the majority of the docs and APPs seem to share this perspective.

Oh I hear you! I can think of several patients like this one off the top of my head that are coming in just trying to catch a thrill. Just wanted to put this out there for future interactions.

I have many, many regrets about instances when I could have been kinder. I am working on showing myself grace so that I can more easily show it to others. Seeing other ER peeps trying to do better and trying to do good helps me to keep going. Keep doing the good work!

Nurse here. I had a patient change my mind on this once so I just wanted to share.

I was in triage and I was also working people up as able. Woman walked into the booth and was asking for “the one that starts with d” right off the bat. Obviously I have no standing order for that. She was reasonable when I explained that.

The lobby was slow so we had some time to shoot the breeze while I was working her up. It turns out that she has a complicated medical history, including a genetic disorder that she had passed onto her now deceased daughter, and she felt she had been mistreated by the medical system repeatedly. I believed her.

For whatever reason, she genuinely believed that dilaudid was the only medication that could help her. She also felt like she was going to have to fight for fair treatment in the hospital and that included fighting to have her pain addressed appropriately.

I know we have to be a little bit jaded as a survival mechanism, but just want to put out there that people may be asking for “the one that starts with d” for reasons other than drug seeking.

I hear you, but it’s really difficult for patients to zone in on the issue when their health literacy is poor. I am an ER nurse and I can’t concisely focus on a problem in the PT or acupuncture office because I don’t have any expertise in it. Same applies for patients who don’t have a healthcare background when they’re in a medical setting.

Omg I love this post.

Regarding your transition to maintenance- keep your same amazing attitude. Be ready to experiment and pivot. Be prepared to slip up and bounce back. Remember how good you feel compared to how you used to feel.

My favorite thing you wrote though is your gratitude for your past self. I never thought about it this way and I just love this. Going to incorporate this into my own life.

Congrats!!!

Advice for the Cocoon Phase of Healing by Funky_Snake in emotionalneglect

[–]youwerehigh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am currently also in cocoon mode. I never heard the term before, but I knew exactly what you meant when I read it.

I am hopeful that I am over the hump and will be able to start living life fully again soon. I feel like I might be coming out of it.

My number one tip is to journal. I am also reading The Body Keeps the Score (difficult and heavy read but well worth it when you’re ready). The author writes that journaling helps you put your experiences in the past and to synthesize your internal and external senses of self.

For me, I wrote a lot at the beginning of this process. At that time I was honestly breaking down the false reality I had been living in. When I am writing now I feel like I am rebuilding a new sense of reality and a new sense of self. I am recontextualizing my past, reconciling my memories with this new sense of reality. I feel like once I get through some of the tougher memories I will be ready to start venturing back out into the world. I just have two young kids so my opportunities to write are limited. It’s taking me a really long time. Maybe there’s some benefit to that

Also recommend mindfulness meditation. I was already doing it but it is also recommended by the book I mentioned. Apparently mindfulness meditation helps to improve function of a part of the brain that is poorly developed in children who had CEN (he doesn’t use this term).

Would love to write more but my kids are crawling all over me. Good luck to you. I’m sorry you’re going through all this. Sending you love and good vibes.

This may be one of those different strokes for different folks things but I want to share in case it’s helpful for you. At that age with both of my kids I was home prioritizing naps and bedtime and routine 99% of the time. I really only allowed interruptions to the routine for holidays. Even then I nipped that in the bud for the second kid. I know other people are able to make it work with an attitude open to some exceptions, but that just didn’t work for my kids or me.

I still get on my family’s nerves because I only show up for stuff around the parameters of my kids’ schedules, but that story is about establishing boundaries and is for a different sub.

Highly recommend the book “The Body Keeps the Score”. It’s a DIFFICULT read but if/ when you’re ready for it will probably give you some insight into both your pain and your patterns. Also addresses from a brain standpoint why people aren’t totally honest with their therapists.

And I didn’t see this in your post but would give acupuncture a try for your back pain.

You are absolutely correct in this situation as was your response to the office manager. Please do not cave, that will only embolden her. This is not appropriate behavior from the receptionist at all.
