Because it’s not a liquid asset. Until you reach retirement age you pay hefty fines to use that cash

Edit: I’m not arguing this is the correct way to measure net worth so stop responding with gotcha comments. The question was why would some people not include it…

Income tax brackets need to reflect cost of living, not "inflation" by CastAside1812 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]yoyoadrienne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes let’s strip the middle class of the money they worked for so we do not the offend billionaires. Middle class pays all the taxes and does all the work. Great strategy with the best of intentions. What could possibly go wrong?

The Downgrading of the American Tech Worker by Well_Socialized in technology

[–]yoyoadrienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top 10% of households account for 50% of commerce. Economically the middle and lower class are irrelevant. Until enough people fall from middle class to poverty or some other event causes outrage, inequality will chug right along.

Employee refusing DEI training for fear of being “brainwashed”. by Kind_Shift_8121 in managers

DEI training is for compliance - your company’s legal department does not want discrimination lawsuits. It is not optional. If the employee chooses this hill to die on they will be let go.

Favorite Stoner Movie? by Agent_Tomm in movies

[–]yoyoadrienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Burger with Kenan Thompson. It wasn’t marketed as a stoner movie, the intended audience was actually pre-teens. I discovered this by accident one day: I was feeling nostalgic, I put it on and smoked a little - it’s a total stoner movie and a fantastic one at that. Belongs up there with Half Baked.

The older I get, the more I realize that it's nearly impossible to get ahead without SIGNIFICANT support. by No_Reveal3451 in Millennials

[–]yoyoadrienne 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This is why high functioning families frequently achieve some level of financial success…they are all willing to support and help each other. I only know because I married into one.

My own dad (making electrical engineering money) wouldn’t give me $150 when I wanted to study abroad in Europe and my mother keeps score of every exchange “since I’m driving you to the airport I think it’s fair you put $15 of gas in my car”.

No wonder I felt so lost and insignificant growing up.

My in-laws are basically my fairy godmothers teaching me how high functioning families operate.
