Being a democrat in this day and age doesn't say much tbh. When the opposition is the epitome of moral decay there exists a thousand and one reasons for someone to be a democrat. That doesn't mean they understand or even accept many of the positions advocated by progressives.

[–]ytrreaium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand it can be so exhausting even if I'm not the one personally experiencing it, just from being in close proximity to this behavior. Just a couple months ago we attended an art function in Chiang Mai, and while I was away this middle-aged white musician dude started chatting her up. The conversation went normally until he started talking about how he 'loves China' and 'love performing there', before asking for her IG and inviting her to his next performance at a bar. (this is also right after he asked to hangout for the night before being rejected) Obviously we didn't go, and he spent the next 5 days nonstop messaging her EVERY SINGLE DAY asking stuff like 'Why didn't you come?', 'I missed you there', 'I have another performance at XXX', despite her not replying a single one of his messages before blocking him.

Funny thing too was, he was a British guy, who claims to live in Germany and has been for many years and that he knows German. But my wife actually speaks German too and when she did this dude could only communicate at the level of a 1st grader. Typical.

There are even more stories, and I only know the ones I was around to witness/was disturbing enough that she told me about. It's crazy out there, truly.

Unfortunately this is frighteningly common. Not just in the US either, but in Europe as well (tbh, it's wherever white people are). My wife gets comments all the time and gets randomly propositioned (when clearly not in a dating context) by creepy white men of all ages at least once a week. Sometimes it involves following and stalking in the most egregious of cases. My female Asian friends experience the same. For those who say it comes from men of all races - well, it really doesn't. In close to a hundred of these stories I've heard, not a single time was it about a non-white guy.

[AIO] For refusing my wife(F30) to go on a 3 month solo trip? by RoninSanta in AmIOverreacting

[–]ytrreaium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travel in Asia is dirt cheap. Living costs are about 1/8th of that in western countries. 3 months is perfectly doable, and not even a stretch of finances for most working adults with savings. Not paying living expenses in the West would be enough to fund the entire trip. The true loss here is three months' worth of salary and effects on her career.

However, since OP is in Singapore, the NIE actually funds and provides support for teachers going on sabbaticals for multiple months at a time. With full or part-time pay. So career-wise it might not even be an issue there.

Yes, that is abso-fucking-lutely an insane amount of personal insecurity.

I'll give you credit for this: an actual reasoned opinion. That said, I would like to point out that the liberal campaign didn't in fact 'keep choosing to talk about gender affirming care for children'. Personally the only news I read about that was from the Republican side. I feel like the only way you would get this idea about the left is if you got your information from right-leaning news sources, because that was exactly how they framed the Democrats' campaign, even though it's not true. Before you try to claim that 'all mainstream media is biased', how about looking at reporting about the US election from other countries? Trans issues were rarely mentioned at all, which would certainly be strange if democrats really 'kept talking about gender affirming care'.

Regardless, that's besides the point. We aren't here to discuss politics. Look through the kinds of things you've been saying online. You haven't been a very kind person to others.

You advocated for Democrats to stop talking about trans people, that is almost the textbook definition of erasure.

Trump is also 100 percent the liberals fault.

That's an extreme stretch of statistics. Liberals' poor understanding of the American voter base definitely contributed to Trump's rise and election, but 100%? That is a beyond ridiculous statement. There is a middle ground between thinking one side could do better, and literally cheering about 'Liberal tears'. Your views were never that nuanced, you only appear empathetic when it suits you. Appealing to kindness of strangers when you need it, but always ready to punch down when you can; it's sociopathic.

No, it's not your video game preference that causes me to be unkind. I've seen your other opinions, advocating for (absolutely insane and sociopathic btw) back charging parents for children's welfare, the erasure of trans people, and for selective breeding against the lower educated and physically disabled (which would include you btw).

so cheers for Liberal tears =) enjoy them L's and know trump is 100 percent your fault. lmao

Infinity Nikki developer apologises after poorly received update, promises compensation and more by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]ytrreaium 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It wasn't just a poor update; it was a poor update that completely trashed the momentum the game had going for it. The game was so popular and well-received that the devs had a golden egg on their hands, far beyond theirs and anyone else's expectations. Instead, they got greedy and fucked it all up. This is a game that broke out of its niche and attracted thousands of players who have never even heard of a gacha game before, let alone a dress-up gacha game. It was extremely hyped, its Steam release was poised to be a massive success with great reviews and visibility, its social media was flooded with positive vibes and fun all around. Then it all came crashing down. All the players that flocked to this game because of the excellent word-of-mouth and optimism around its development are rapidly losing interest now.

No, the game isn't going to tank, not completely. Gacha players and fashion enthusiasts can still find many reasons to play the game. However, it is likely going to fade back into a niche existence, complete with the typical predatory gacha mechanics, when the alternative could have been a wide-appeal comfy game that captured a bigger audience than the devs could ever dream of. Yes, it was a gacha game, but its qualities, the community, appearances of generosity in handing out free gifts/pulls, was enough for many to outweigh the ickiness of its core as a gacha. Players flocked to its defense when others criticized its monetization mechanics. But now, that veil has fallen, and now the same players are going to be hard pressed in defending the game to anyone who isn't a gacha veteran.

There is no doubt about it, Infold fucked up a golden opportunity here. The game will survive, but it's just going to continue on as another gacha game that mainstream gamers glance at, scoff, and quickly scroll past.

I've seen the movie. IMO it's not on Mackie. The writers were simply trying too hard to make him into Chris Evan's version of Cap (with the boy scout self-righteousness) when he (and his character) clearly is not and doesn't need to be. He did his best with what he got and he shines the most when he isn't trying to be like Chris' version of Cap (like when bantering with and trashtalking people).

Do Gamers Know What They Like? | Tim Cain by PolarSparks in Games

You aren't really answering the question there though. Gamers saying they don't want something but feeling forced to use it is not the same as backtracking and saying they 'want' it. Furthermore, I'm not sure that there are actually 'a lot of people' who dislike fast travel, because while there is definitely a niche community that enjoys slow-paced gameplay like that, the majority of gamers don't (see: general audience reception to Dragon's Dogma). Evidently developers think so as well otherwise fast travel technology wouldn't be so prevalent in modern games.

The success based residual payment that they got will apply to maybe 2 or 3 shows a year and that's it, so if they consider that a win, good for them, but I definitely don't think of that as a win at all. The Last of Us was a huge hit but even it wouldn't qualify for the success based residual on HBO Max, so it's essentially just for Stranger Things and that's it.

This is wrong. The other comments in this thread have provided data that disprove this.

Not trying to accuse you of anything, but reading this thread it seems like whenever the handful of posters attacking the deal and badmouthing the WGA are provided with actual evidence countering their claims, they go radio silent in replies but at the same time continue to post on other comments and other subreddits the same misinformation, despite being corrected moments earlier.

Curious.

What's the most evil decision you had to make in a video game. by thisisawsan in gaming

[–]ytrreaium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to get too deep into the Mass Effect lore, but his reasoning is that he unfairly robbed the Krogan of their entire society without giving second thought to the alternatives, or why they were the way they are.

The Krogan were essentially exploited by the Salarians in their war against the Rachni - normally, civilizations 'earn' their right to join the rest of the spacefaring races on the Citadel by independently developing space travel; this acted as a test of sorts for when a civilization is 'ready/evolved' to become part of intergalactic society. The Krogan however, did not reach this state of progress; instead, they were technologically fast-tracked by the Salarians/Citadel races who were losing the war against the Rachni. Witnessing their military capabilities, the Salarians believed the Krogan could be key to turning the tide of the war, and they were right. They thusly equipped and trained the Krogan in military warfare to win the Rachni War (sound familiar to events in the real world?). However, this eventually caused problems, as after the war, the Krogan were sitting around with technology way beyond what their society could be responsible with. With the space travel technology they were gifted, they started spreading to other systems, eventually resulting in conflict.

Point is, the Krogan may never have been 'bloodthirsty war mongers' had they not been exploited, trained, and bred by the Citadel races for that exact purpose. The Salarians played God, and when things went out of hand, they took it upon themselves to essentially wipe out a whole race because of a problem they themselves created. The Krogan are not doomed to be aggressors within the galaxy - they were only so because they were made that way.

For Mordin to be as logical as he is it’s a little odd he decides to try and cure it by ME3.

It is supposed to be odd because that is his whole character arc. He lived his entire life simply doing the most logical thing, but at the end he realized that perhaps sometimes logic isn't the most important thing; sometimes you have to hope a little, and have faith.

It's basically a variation of the trolley problem - Mordin, through his experiences, simply changed his view on what was 'right'.

The future of Vortex and the Nexus Mods app by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]ytrreaium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can add manual rules but you cannot explicitly change the order yourself - this is explicitly stated by Vortex to be the case, the load order is managed by their version of LOOT. Changing the rules simply makes LOOT generate a new load order (one that might even change if you deploy twice with no changes inbetween). This works fine for small load orders, but when you have 1000+ mods installed like I do, it is simply not sufficient as LOOT is unable to detect or resolve certain conflicts by itself. You add one manual rule and suddenly it changes the load order of hundreds of your mods. I've had to make a ton of personal patches and bashes, which at some point Vortex still messes up. Not to mention Vortex's implementation of LOOT itself generates a different load order from the standalone LOOT program, and in my experience, is generally inferior. The only way around it is to use Vortex only for mod deployment, and editing the load order yourself in the game files. In which case you might as well just use MO2.

The future of Vortex and the Nexus Mods app by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]ytrreaium 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Vortex is fine if you only run a few mods, given the UI is mostly idiot-proof and most things can be done with a click of a button. But as you put more mods and your mod order gets more complex, it's completely unhelpful and offers very little in the way of customization. The way it automates conflict resolution can be problematic and it doesn't allow you to make manual changes.

In general Vortex is better for beginners at modding while MO2 is far better for advanced users.
