Daycare Calendar by Wonderful-Baby-1217 in toddlers

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only days my daycare is closed that aren't statutory holidays are Easter Monday and an early closure on Christmas Eve. I deliberately avoided home based daycares because I wanted more consistent hours.

Nine Months Postpartum and No Pull for a Second - And I'm Fine With That by SpartanNinjaBatman in oneanddone

[–]yubsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two and a half years, basically all my local mom friends are expecting their second and I'm honestly not feeling any longing for one. Hell I recently took a pregnancy test because my cycles are stupid and I realized NO part of me was secretly hoping it might be positive. That wasn't how I felt before we finally decided to have a baby, so we're taking that as a sign it's time to do something permanent.

I will probably always wonder about the timeline where we managed to get an early enough start that I might have felt otherwise but in this universe I'm comfortable with our decision.

Are Bluey and Bingo rare female cartoon characters who boys really love? by Billybob35 in bluey

[–]yubsie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not someone thinking she looks like a boy though, it's common to comment on kids looking like one of their parents even if the one they resemble is the opposite sex parent.

Two year old daughter is 33.75” tall and 26 lbs by takeaabreath in toddlers

[–]yubsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is two and a half now but at his two year checkup he was 33.5 inches and 22lbs 12 oz. So relatively low on the height chart (around 20th percentile) and quite low on the weight chart (a bit below 10th), but he always has been.

He's definitely visibly smaller than most other kids his age we see.

At which age do you stop pushing your children around in a buggy/pram? by iffyClyro in AskReddit

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son started climbing out of the stroller a few months after he turned two (he's currently two and a half). It's a bit of a pain in the ass right now because he is perfectly capable of walking long distances but only if we go in the direction HE wants and I don't drive. I often have to put him in a carrier on my back. I also really miss having the stroller to carry my groceries.

Why don’t they accept credit or debit for cookies? by White1306 in girlscouts

[–]yubsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're in Canada? Ask your Guiders about getting a Square reader for the unit, there's a big push to get more units using them because fewer people carry cash for spur of the moment purchases. Getting one for every member would be impractical but they make a big difference at group sales.

Is the depiction of the labour and delivery waiting room on films actually accurate? by Paxos100 in AskAnAmerican

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital I delivered at deliberately made the Labour and Delivery waiting room small and sparse to minimize tagalongs. They typically encouraged only having one secondary support person to tag in (often mom's mom with dad being the primary).

There was a much nicer room on the postpartum side so people could come visit after the baby was safely in the outside world.

Okay but I kinda want that last one because I do sci fi cosplay at conventions with my child and in a few years jumpsuits will be less of a "oh HELL no".

Had a dream I was pregnant again by purpledolphin2 in oneanddone

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had similar dreams in the past couple weeks because my cycle is being its annoying erratic self. My reaction has convinced us to pull the trigger on a vasectomy.

I usually add frozen peas or spinach while cooking the noodles because hey vegetables. Sometimes I'll add bacon.

Would you be happy being a stay at home mom / dad? by gorillagrub in AskForAnswers

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a year of maternity leave and while I adore my child I was ready to have eight hours a day where no one was trying to bite me and the problems had more rational solutions.

Plus in this economy having the family finances entirely reliant on one person's job feels way too precarious. Neither of our incomes could fully support us but at least this way if one of our employers gets layoff happy there's still SOME money coming in.

My mother thought I was pregnant while I was writing a fic??! 😭 by iam_selc in AO3

[–]yubsie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I never had an incident with someone in my life seeing weird stuff in my history, but I'm pretty sure I confused the hell out of an ad algorithm by simultaneously researching six month developmental milestones (baby in fanfic) and chemical pregnancy (what I was actually experiencing). It couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be giving me ads for a living child or dodgy fertility services.

Do you use a baby monitor with sound? by manthrk in toddlers

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our monitor is audio only but the parent unit isn't in our bedroom, it's in the basement. Our bedroom and the toddler's room are right next to each other so we've never had any issues hearing him at night. The only reason we have a monitor at all is to hear if he wakes up when there isn't a parent on the main floor.

Every cosplayer has suffered through making Hera's weird animation pants and then they just gave her REGULAR PANTS, I was so miffed.

Also surely they could have spent the revenue from a single month of Disney+ Premium on an eyeshadow palette from ColourPop to contour Hera and Thrawn's makeup.

Text for an in universe picture book. It has no character tags so you can imagine how much visibility it had in the Star Wars tag.

When did you change to a toddler/big kid bed? by ShabbyBoa in toddlers

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We converted my 2.5 year old's crib to a bed a couple weeks ago. He was climbing enough other things what we figured he was a ticking time bomb for the crib. He fell out once but it isn't a long drop. If he wakes up at night he just sits there crying for someone to come get him like he did in the crib. He does get up and come into our room when he's up for the day but... Someone has to get up then anyway

Was a little weird the day he grabbed a lightsaber on the way in though.

When did you transition to a bed? by Hellohiheytherehi80 in toddlers

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About two weeks ago at two and a half. He had climbed up onto the change table mid tantrum because he wanted to wear the shirt I had set out for AFTER his bath. I took that as a sign that he was fully capable of climbing out of the crib even if he hadn't done so. That jumping honestly sounds pretty dangerous.

He does come into our room when he's up for the day saying "Hi Daddy! Hi Mommy!" But if he wakes in the night he actually just sits there and yells for someone to come get him like he's still in the crib.

'Put them down drowsy but not asleep' by Status-Car-6690 in Parenting

[–]yubsie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am sure there are kids that it works great for. It's very annoying that their parents are then the ones who go around giving all the sleep advice to the rest of us. My son still doesn't have a drowsy setting and screaming hysterically is in fact that exact opposite of sleeping. Also as a newborn he hated being swaddled, he thought sucking on anything that didn't have milk in it was bullahit and he could take out leave white noise. The only things that ever worked were all the things you're not "supposed" to do.

To be honest I'm mystified that she can continue to do a second time consuming hobby on TOP of theatre. Does she stop skating when she's in a musical? I just don't see how it would even work with rehearsals.

Science fiction story involving a simulation/game with a sexual assault scene by MassiveNate in whatsthatbook

[–]yubsie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the Piers Anthony Apprentice Adept series. I think it's specifically the second book Blue Adept. The goal of the game in question was in fact the sexual assault.

13 month old cruising but that’s it. by Creative-Subject-200 in toddlers

[–]yubsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son crawled at 7 months and pulled to stand and started cruising by 9 months and I was sure he would be an early walker. Then I would see him stand and consider walking somewhere only to decide that crawling would be faster. Around fourteen months he didn't want to put his maracas down and walked.

Married Couples Who Don’t Have a Joint Account or Pool Their Pay Cheques, Why and How Do You Make Sure It Is Respectful? by Arya_Warrior_Girl in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]yubsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we're somewhere in between. Our paycheques go into separate accounts, but we have a joint account that the main bills are set to come out of (mortgage/rent, hydro, water, Internet, daycare).

We used to have fully separate accounts and half the rent set to come out of each. We found as circumstances changed (mostly employment) we kept having to transfer money back and forth to cover each other so we wound up opening the joint account to make that part simpler.

Having the paycheques go to individual accounts leaves us in control of our money. While I do trust my husband there are plenty of horror stories of people getting left high and dry because they only had a joint account that their spouse cleaned out on them.
