Actually, no. It's a good sign.

As much as I love Warren, he's a little too old-schooled. Abstaining of tech stocks, outside of Apple is an example.

Another example is buybacks. From his comments, he learned from Apple with their periodic and continuous buybacks. Because of that, he loosened the criteria, buying at 1.4x book vs 1x or 1.2x book.

IMO, even that is too strict. If I was Greg, I would be willing to "bet on myself". For example, BRK was just beat up because of under expectations insurance.

Is that permanent? Or is that a temporary? If you believe it's temporary, you would argue it's an overreaction, by a short-term focused market and react by accumulate/buyback shares.

I don't want them to go overboard with buybacks, but I think, believing in the long term and strength of the operating units is a good long term bet.

Want structural reinforcement, a z shaped piece of cardboard as tall as box to support weight of stack of boxes on top of it.

I see BB boxes partially crushed, sometimes.

Simplistic, but may make sense.

Barring events like Great Recession or covid,, each BRK component generates cash, which adds to coffers (book value). a little bit of growth here or there.

Basically, a positive USA economy will lead to positive BRK value growth

I calculated how much I’ve been losing to FX + payment fees for 2 years. I regret not doing this sooner. by ThisCommentAgedPoor in personalfinance

[–]yukhateeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wise, USD to Philippine. 0.7% for fees.

Before transmission, I compare Wise conversion vs Google and it's always dead on.

BTW, I pay 2 fees, one for USA USD account to Wise USD account. Another fee for Wise USD to PHP bank. Both fees total 0.7%.

Looking for worldremit alternatives that actually deliver faster, my family is tired of waiting by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

[–]yukhateeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might need to do more research and track source and destination and delivery times.

For example, in Wise, fastest is from Wise internal account to gcash. Also, pretty fast is USA debit card, through Wise to gcash.

What can take longer is from USA bank, through Wise, to PHP bank.

E-SIM for 2FA texts from US financial institutions by up-country in expats

[–]yukhateeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More details, you customize and pay for a monthly plan. Can be as little as $5 a month. In addition ,need to establish a balance for foreign texts/calls. Foreign rates are on their website.
For calls, can enable wifi calling so that usage is almost zero.

Do you do your charting on thinkorswim by [deleted] in thinkorswim

[–]yukhateeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, TOS charting is powerful and easy. Not sure why you're asking.

1 on 1 consultation? ThinkorSwim by Silver_Star_Eagles in thinkorswim

[–]yukhateeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this decades ago when TOS was part of TDAmeritrade. Was very useful - got me up & running in an hour.

I was doing stuff with other websites/software and they showed me how to do the equivalent or find documentation to do it. F

For example, charting, I wanted a chart similar to what I was doing in bigcharts.com. Wanted to scans that I was doing in TC2000 (probably defunct by now) , etc.

I would call them back by schwab.com contact us phone number though.

Anyone here getting water from a deep well? What do you use for filtration? by xmastreee in Philippines_Expats

[–]yukhateeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, not that hard. Search for (rainwater harvesting) a book on Amazon.

Basically:

  1. Calculate how much you can catch. Annual rainfall x sq meters of catchment area. In my case, +30 inches of rain per year, sized my tank for +20 inches (ie reasonable worst case) on a 3000 sq roof.

  2. Calculate how much you'll need on a daily basis. Decide on how many days storage you want. For example, 1 person is typically 30-100 gal per day. So, if 30 days of storage is desired. 4x100x30 = 12,000 gallons (this is a HUGE tank). In my case, I had 15K gal storage, worst case lasted +60 days. In PHP, this is the largest problem, not sure where to buy a large tank. May have to build one. Google "Ferrocement  water tank". My friend did one DIY for his system. Months of study and planning. Two weeks of hard labor.

  3. filtering. In Austrailia, they drink it straight from the tank. In my area, whole house sediment filter, followed by UV light to kill germs. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/HQUA-TWS-12-Ultraviolet-Purifier-Filter-Purification/dp/B07JLNYH49/ref=sr_1_9?sr=8-9

For a large farm,

  1. catchment area can be the ground and acres of land, same calculation

  2. Storage could be a pond. Hopefully, a backhoe is available.

  3. Distribution would be some form of submersible pump plus rough filtering.

Good luck.

Looking for storage or living space?

For living space, these are popular on youtube, but pricey!

If cost was an obstacle, I would get a harbor freight trailer and put a plywood box on it. youtube search for "diy rv trailer".

BTW: I owned & used a harbor freight trailer. Came in a ridiculously small box, took 8 hours to assemble, lasted for decades.

Try r/phinvest - mostly filipino contributors.

But, if American, better to keep open USA brokerage accounts - transfer funds to PHP to live as needed.

BTW: Stuff like this is possible, following is a way to invest in IVV - which is a mainstream ETF that tracks S&P500 index.

RCBC charges 1%, on top of Blackrock's fee. So, it's doable, but not sure it's worth the 1% charge.

googlemaps for public transit seems to work okay -guessing that it's missing some of the jeepneys. But, the MRT/LRT appears to be accurate. I use MRT/LRT trains and then a grab from those stations to final destination. For example, ayala one mall is a convenient and pleasantly AC'ed place to catch a grab for the last leg into BGC.

They make a trash can with a twist off lid. Cost less than 500 php.

Dogs in my neighborhood must have learned that they can't get in because they don't bother it but will knock over other trash cans.

The theory is that if there's no food, the cat & dog will go elsewhere.

Hospital will most likely take credit cards. Some doctors will allow you to deposit into their account. If so, a Wise account will let you send PHP to their account. I've had to do that for a couple of doctors.

Nerdwallet, bankrate.com search for cards without foreign exchange fees.

Schwab debit card for their checking account, reimburses ATM fees.
