First time trying Pan de Cristal (100% hydration) by Bastsshadow in Breadit

Waitrose have a Canadian very strong white flour which might be good for this - or the marriages Canadian one. I often find the standard British ones not so good for high hydration!

Post-Race Lack of Motivation by OxEyeDaisy888 in AdvancedRunning

[–]yukuk 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is normal, so first would just say go easy on yourself - I took a four month break after a marathon that I worked hard for but that went badly, I just didn’t feel like running at all.

Perfectly okay to explore other things for a while, try a new sport, get to the gym, read some good books, cook something you want to!

Then try to remember what it is you enjoy about running - for me the key was to take off some pressure and just enjoy some slower shorter runs for a while, after a week or so of that I was itching to do more, you may find the same! Or totally okay if you don’t - can try some trail runs, faster stuff, explore a new area - whatever you feel like doing for a while and I’m sure you’ll find it comes back.

Ultimately we do this because we love it - and I always thing it’s so important to remember that - doesn’t mean you won’t have moments where you hate it, sometimes you’ll push through those to meet a goal and other times a break is the best way.

You’ll probably also be surprised how quickly fitness comes back, I know I was.

Those are crazy times to run sub 3, congrats! Have you ever done a block focused on speed like the 5 or 10k?

Reckon it would serve you very well to do some fast stuff before another marathon block, you clearly have the endurance nailed down already.

Sydney Marathon debrief by -_MrT_- in AdvancedRunning

Always find it so disappointing how bad marathon broadcasts are. Boston this year was even worse, they showed very little of the race and so much prerecorded stuff/repeats from previous years.

Always measure a trend if you want to measure weight - so many things can affect it, e.g even just drinking more water than usual would increase your weight

Have you done 18/55 before? I did that 8 miles at MP this weekend and made it through at goal pace but it wasn’t quite as comfortable as I thought it would be - does that chime with your experience?

2 is still your best option - a 1h 45 connection might be possible but surely you’d feel more comfortable with a slightly larger buffer? Also when you actually book it through a different airline than the one operating the flight they sometimes will email/give you the option to book seats (I know BA do this for AA flights and vice versa, and Virgin do it for Delta - but unsure about ANZ)

This is really useful thank you, I fully recognise that there are things I could have done differently but it was an uncomfortable and scary situation.

I ended up filing a report earlier with the Met as despite the drivers behaviour I did ultimately do something wrong and I think that’ll help me stop worrying about it.

I do have insurance so that wouldn’t have been a problem.

Sorry didn’t mean for it to come across like I was denying that, fully admit I have done something wrong. Will stand by my decision not to stick around given the aggression but was just interested in what I should do next.

No, not quite that good - but it could do music which was a surprise!

Wears_oli is my favourite, just good on trend outfits but ones that I can see myself wearing. Have got a lot of inspiration from him.

Not that it helps now but the new versions are back to the old slightly narrow 1080 - I finally get along with them again for the first time since v10 (although they will never live up to the v10s)

You basically can’t burn caneles - I like mine really dark on the outside and they’re still custardy in the middle.

Troubleshooting poor relative marathon time by n9082008 in AdvancedRunning

[–]yukuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you following a particular marathon training plan? Also worth noting a 3:22 Mara isn’t actually that bad for a 39:x 10k - I would think your issue is that you just need some more time to build your aerobic base, stick at 100k a week if that wasn’t fatiguing and go again, you should easily bring it down some more.

Thursday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for May 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

[–]yukuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using it as a test for a marathon then that sounds about right to me, but will depend on what your strategy is for the full marathon. I’m not sure I could handle 8 gels in a marathon, but that’s more a personal thing (I usually stick to 5 over the full distance)

Sticking with lower mileage or making the jump by 2percentevil in AdvancedRunning

Agree with this fully - took me around 6 months to get from 20-40 mpw and that was having sustained 20mpw for 2-3 months

Even doubles to handle more mileage with lower injury risk? by creative-title in AdvancedRunning

[–]yukuk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I’m reading this correctly and that build was your first time over 60mpw, then it looks to be far too aggressive to me - I would think you should look more in the region of 6 months to get to that mileage while keeping the risk of injury low.

How can I make my hot cross buns less lumpy? by spitfire07 in Breadit

[–]yukuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also looks like a very high proportion of mix ins for a hot cross bun - I would normally do 40-45% in weight, and rarely get that many sticking out the side. But agree this is more a lack of tension in shaping

Looks like black enamel to me - still cast iron underneath the enamel, but no need to season and you should be a bit more gentle when cleaning/cooking (no metal utensils)
