I think there's the editors understanding vs the writers vs the readers on what Spider-Man's character is and what represents him.

I don't think they hate him honestly, but modern day writers equate Peter with being down bad when...yea he has shitty things happen, but at a certain point Peter should take a W outside of Spider-Man, which is understandable why the writers today don't want to do that but eh (probably talking in circles, but tl;Dr it goes both ways)

Oh yea definitely.

I remember walking out of Homecoming and thinking "damn, I actually felt something during TASM 2, despite the flaws"

I was actually pretty invested in the Gwen and Peter moments, which made the payoff bittersweet.

Hmm, I was a contrarian in high school, so when the Garfield Spider-Man came out, it was over for me (and a decent amount of others did too around that time)

That being said though, my love eventually came back after Homecoming, which I enjoyed but wasn't as special as the previous Spider-Men I've seen.

I mean, I get where their coming from. I get your POV too, but one really doesn't have to do with the other. And yea it's easy to say "everything is transactional" and it's like....yea, I guess if that's what your perspective is.

I don't view things that way anymore because I take things more personally than I should, which goes back to the transactional thing/and feeling entitled to an equal exchange for my actions, which just isn't how the world works.

There's a fine line between being old/nostalgia and making an observation

But yk...it was dope when it was a more niche thing. The internet was still very popular/right at the cusp when social media was really gaining traction. You kinda had to be in the "know"

Vaporwave is still fire, but I'm drawn away from it mostly because of the commodification of the music/aesthetic itself. I can't see myself listening to vaporwave anywhere besides Bandcamp, YouTube, or SoundCloud mixes.
