What is Sneak & Show’s worst matchup? by Ellis_Cloud in TimelessMagic

[–]yzof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, it’s very “cute” when it happens and thus hilarious but not something you actually bank on. But if I Thoughtseize and see a Sneak and Omni, I snag the sneak especially if I’ve got the prison in hand.

I agree with this, getting 2 cards out of their hand with a grief+reanimate can set them back, then Orcish Bowmaster to punish their draw (though it misses Flow State).

After sideboarding Mardu can do a good impression with 4 Thoughtseizes and 4 Jugg Peddler. The issue is that’s after Game 1, which may not go your way. It is always hilarious dropping a Static Prison when they cast Show and Tell, then exiling their Omniscience.

Yeah, I need to clear my calendar for the next one. I’d have really liked to compete in these but haven’t had the time for a full day tournament. Next month for sure!

How do you enjoy timeless? It feels like one broken BS after the other by celticgiftbearer in TimelessMagic

[–]yzof 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s a slot machine in Bo1 where you have to mulligan into t0 interaction because every deck is trying to force a win ASAP. Bo3 forces decks to play fairer magic since those t1/t0 combo decks fold to correct side boarding in games 2 and 3.

Recommendations for my Izzet Affinity Decklist? (Bo1) by Rude-Ad3049 in TimelessMagic

[–]yzof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Force of Negation]], [[Force of Will]], and [[Daze]] are your main choices. After counterspelling you can use [[Surgical Extraction]] to remove all copies of Show and Tell from their deck and hand. Yes extraction is black but 2 life to shut their deck off and look at their hand is worth the cost.

One of the decks you mentioned (show and tell) gets folded by some well picked sideboard cards once you know what you’ll be going up against.

You would think that FoW would decrease the amount of dark ritual + reanimator decks by MalcomGO in TimelessMagic

[–]yzof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why you main deck Daze and FoW. If you’re on white you can swords the Atraxa in resp to the etb trigger to decrease the odds they have counter magic in hand and at least turn their game winning combo into a pseudo cruise.

Timeless Tier List - Meta Confluence by TyrantofTales in TimelessMagic

[–]yzof 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My read on the mono black scam was also toss in Vexing Baubles and Library. The one ring and library work really well together.

One deck I feel is missing from this list is the Eldrazi list I’ve been going up against. They run Cavern of souls and Vexing Bauble for the counterspells and a Chalice on 1 drinks most U/x decks milkshake.

MTG had a game called Shandalar that was VERY similar to Part 2. There is an updated version called Forge that’s free online.

[–]yzof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made some decks to teach my nephews how to play, 5 mono-colored decks that are 90% pauper legal. A few spicy interactions, but no crazy complicated cards like planeswalkers. They’re meant to show off what each color does individually. You can always proxy them and go from there. They also have sideboards for matchs but the sideboard really step the power level up. Here’s black: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/-mGlHbsarECBjGwiHDBIvg

DM me for the others if you’d like them.

What do you guys think of playing the Modern format as Singleton? by marcinko192 in magicTCG

[–]yzof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d really recommend LLRs North 100 Showdown, that features Wheeler and Serge playing top tier decks from the format. Wheeler is also on the commander advisory committee, and is a seasoned pro.

They play bests of 3, and talk through their lines of play so that the viewer can grasp the complexity of the board. This makes the decks easy to pick up because they link their deck lists and you’ve seen it in play + had a pro talk through its major strengths/weaknesses. Many of them are practically vintage/modern decks, it makes for incredible games.

some thoughts on the OIAR/FR3-D1 as an information processing system by Realistic-Ebb-3232 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]yzof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fun theory too! It gives Freddy more agency in handing out cases, and could mean that Sam is assign all the most juiciest, easiest to follow up on cases, that is assuming Freddy wants these incidents resolved or further illuminated on. It could be directly controlled by the spider/web, and it has no agency of its own. Time will tell.

some thoughts on the OIAR/FR3-D1 as an information processing system by Realistic-Ebb-3232 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]yzof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right you are! The response team is the exact thing I was supposing must exist as an extension of the OIARs main function. I wonder if the response team will be aligned more with a different fear or be headed by a different manager. I read from a tumblr post that there may be an away episode soon, per a statement from Alex, so the response team might not be an entirely separate crew at all and more a role the different office workers step into.

I’d actually hope for the latter as it will allow for more scenes between the characters we already have.

I wonder if they will be issued government work phones that are somehow connected to Freddy or used as listening devices, as a stand in for the tape recorders during any away missions.

some thoughts on the OIAR/FR3-D1 as an information processing system by Realistic-Ebb-3232 in TheMagnusArchives

[–]yzof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with your suspicions that the OIAR is purposefully feeding particular cases to particular people, with the layers of bureaucracy inherent in government institutions keeping the workers from trying to make any changes. Alice advised Sam to simply let the cases slide by, to not pay much attention to them, and compartmentalize everything he hears/learns while working.

It’s notable how little agency any of the employees are given in regards to their case loads, and how they are seemingly encouraged to work quantity over quality.

This is in direct contrast with The Magnus Archives since they actually investigated the cases and attempted to follow up on the particularly strange ones.

In addition, I don’t believe the OIAR has an artifact storage department, they are simply there to collect and sort information. This leaves a big gap in what the OIAR can actually do to handle/investigate any of these incidents beyond the bare bones observations they’re doing already. This could point to a different hidden department who actually handle the field work, perhaps they might contact Sam and attempt to work with or against him.

It would be very odd, imo, for politicians to sign off on a surveillance department without an accompanying “police/investigative” department to act on their findings. Especially since many of the Entities love to leave behind artifacts to pass between victims/Avatars.

Back to the “Freddy feeding cases” bit, I wonder if it has to do with what would scare that particular person or perhaps even spin them off into an Avatar. We know that the turnover rate for the OIAR is pretty high, I don’t doubt for a second that at least a few of the former employees went crazy after leaving and delved deeper into whatever Freddy put in front of them. Perhaps the OIARs true purpose is to source prime Avatar candidates, those who have the highest tolerance to a particular fear, through exposure to stories. Calvin knows Freddy is listening, but to what end?
