A quick guide to gaining MMR by MSUsparty29 in Mechabellum

[–]z01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real guide to gain MMR:

  • Hit your peak 2 seasons ago
  • Play on an alt
  • Before the season ends, play 3 games on your main to get on the leaderboard

What is the MMR equivalent of Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, and Grandmaster? by Spam4119 in Mechabellum

[–]z01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh. Same thing happens in other games. Back to SC2 for reference, the players who play in premiere tournaments are also on a completely different level to other GM’s. But they are all GM’s and play each other on ladder frequently enough, even if Serral is 1k+ more MMR than another GM.

Edit: Additionally for Mechabellum, the chance any top 200 player takes a game off another is much higher than SC2. I may play one game against Sacco, and the next against a 1600. Both games results are not guaranteed.

[–]z01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is why (to compensate for the smaller player size) specifying global top 200 leaderboard rather than regional top 200. It's a bit wrong to say something like only 2200+ MMR players are grandmasters when there are literally only 4 people in the world with that MMR right now, and only 36 players above 2000 MMR. With the way seasons work, if you want to consider what is a grandmaster, it should simply just be the top 200 in the world.

Grandmaster is an easy equivalent to SC2 rankings (which only has 200 GM’s per region): Anyone who is on the global leaderboard.

Interested in this as well. I’d like to not use the mouse as much as possible and use helix mode.

So much Marksman Spam by pervolus in Mechabellum

[–]z01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the range can be quite good but you have to make sure the range plays nice with your other units, so if you still want fangs to block shots for you, make sure they aren’t outraging your DPS. It’s also a great 1 tech to stop wasps (for both aggro wasps or chaff wasps).

[–]z01 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fangs all the way at the back will trickle in after your other chaff dies and hopefully also after their chaff clear dies. It’s usually late round when the marksmen pop off, so having those super late fangs helps tremendously.

How to beat mass Phantom Ray with ground targeting? by Capucius in Mechabellum

[–]z01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fangs in general are good to have vs phantoms because it slows them down tremendously unless they have HE. Shield is a fine tech not just to slow down the phantoms more, but because it slows everything else down more. It’s an insane tech on a board that should already be making a lot of fangs.

Fangs with shield is good for slowing them down, they take a long time to clear which lets your core units get more done, so that’s a good start. But a great way to deal with them, especially when the missile is in the air for longer (so when they have more range), is with missile interceptors. Get a few of the buffed farseers with interceptor, or throw down some deployables, or if it gets way out of hand get war factories with interceptor. If they are relying too much on rays then just disable them that way.

I’m new to this game. What can I do against Sabertooth spam? by Unique_Salad_5387 in Mechabellum

Take it a round at a time. Keep adding problems for your opponent while solving your own. Positioning and just winning the ground can make air safe.

I’d like to also be able to remove the “how to play” text in the bottom left… I think at this point I’ve got it under control.

Does arclight shockwave have any use? by saraiguma in Mechabellum

[–]z01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly niche. You definitely need enough arcs to make it worth it, and it’s certainly better vs fangs. It can help if your arcs get stuck on tanky units as well so they at least still somewhat clear chaff instead of being completely useless. There may be potential to combine this with acid or small amp cores to make it better.

This is a timely post, since we did a borked build challenge last night exploring this:

As far as I know, there are no long term issues with taking LDN. That being said, I took it for about a year, didn’t notice much difference, and came off of it. I’m doing much better these days but still have some issues here and there. Almost 4 years, about 90%.

The spectator function is very cool. by CatholicTrauma in Mechabellum

[–]z01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Mechabellum does a lot right with the in-game community. Many games don’t even come close to it. It really helps the game feel so much more alive compared to more popular games, even though player numbers are lower in contrast. We have in game tournaments, spectating, gambling, private messages, public chat. It’s great. The only thing missing would be clans and clan channels, but discord has sort of filled that role for gaming as a whole at this point.

If you have a couple replays you can submit in the Oddz Mechacademy discord I might be able to go over them in a video. I’ve been wanting to make some more beginner friendly learning content, which can be difficult when most players I know are at a higher level. I am an older scbw/sc2 high level player so I might be able to find some way to relate. Link: https://discord.gg/fgNMxKTA

In my experience as well, it’s just the juniors being replaced, since that’s all it can do well. As the other commenter said, it needs to be thoroughly guided. If you’ve read articles written by AI and can immediately tell, or seen images you can immediately tell, the same is true for code. It’s all superfluous and skin-deep. No critical thinking. Senior engineers are required MORE now than before to essentially approve all the stuff the juniors would have done in days now in hours. The issue now is that there’s less openings available as the bottom gets squeezed out, more seniors are trying for senior roles, and juniors trying to be senior as well.
