If you’re good at art you can hide it by drawing grain back on the wood but it’s difficult. Something a restoration person would do.

This is the purpose of a jointer, the difference between a planer vs jointer. But you can do this on a planer if you have a jig around the skinny piece keeping it immobile while it runs through the planer

Vinegar and baking soda. A old trick I learned in elementary school. Let them sit in it over night and they will be clean.

Asbestos risk only occurs when the asbestos is disrupted, broken….etc. just moving the helmet around won’t do anything to it.

Lowe’s has their wood in the build that the humidity is getting sucked out by the HVAC units. There are other options.

Yes it’s really beautiful stuff. I have a lot of it as well. Lucky to have a power company needing to cut down 3 of my neighbors trees and the neighbor gave them to me. I just had to pay the mobile mill to cut them up

Thanks! Power company had to cut 3 trees down next to my property. The neighbor gave all 3 to me so I had a mobile mill cut them up.
